Unsupervised Video Anomaly Detection (UVAD) utilizes completely unlabeled videos for training without any human intervention. Due to the existence of unlabeled abnormal videos in the training data, the performance of UVAD has a large gap compared with semi-supervised VAD, which only uses normal videos for training. To address the problem of insufficient ability of the existing UVAD methods to learn normality and reduce the negative impact of abnormal events, this paper proposes a novel Enhanced Spatio-temporal Self-selective Learning (ESSL) framework for UVAD. This framework is designed for capturing both the appearance and motion features through effective network structures by solving the spatial and temporal jigsaw puzzles. Specially, we develop a Self-selective Learning Module (SLM) for UVAD, which prevents the model learning abnormal features and enhances the model by selecting normal features. Experimental results on three benchmark datasets show that the proposed method not only surpasses the state-of-the-art UVAD works, but also achieves the performance comparable to the classic semi-supervised methods for video anomaly detection that needs normal videos selected manually. The widespread adoption of social networks facilitates the dissemination of authentic information while also accelerating the spread of misinformation, such as rumors. The propagation of positive information can enhance user awareness and mitigate the hazards of misinformation. The misinformation containment (MC) problem aims to identify a set o k nodes that initiate the spread of positive information, maximizing its influence while minimizing the hazards of misinformation. The greedy approach, which employs extensive Monte Carlo simulations to estimate influence, is time-consuming and can only prioritize either propagation or containment, but not both. This paper studies the MC problem under competitive activation models. Based on geometric models of probability, we calculate the approximate probabilities of nodes being activated by positive information and misinformation at various times. Taking into account the two-hop theory, we propose a consistent and efficient computational method to assess node influence distribution from the perspectives of propagation and containment. This method strikes a balance between propagation and containment, surpassing degree centrality, further informing a heuristic solution to the MC problem. The heuristic solution's overall performance surpasses that of greedy approaches, which can only prioritize one aspect. Experiments on real-world networks demonstrate that our approach effectively balances the propagation of positive information and misinformation containment with low time complexity. © 2024 IEEE.

The rapidly increasing popularity of micromobility devices, such as e-scooters and bicycles, in urban environments underscores the critical need for advanced trajectory prediction models to enhance road safety and facilitate seamless integration into intelligent transportation systems. This study introduces a novel approach to predicting the movements of bicyclists and e-scooter riders by leveraging a unique dataset that combines bird's-eye and egocentric views, collected from diverse urban settings across the United States. Employing state-of-the-art deep learning techniques, our model significantly outperforms traditional linear and polynomial regression models in terms of Average Displacement Error (ADE) and Final Displacement Error (FDE), demonstrating superior accuracy in forecasting the trajectories of vulnerable road users. Furthermore, our approach incorporates cognitive annotations to predict crossing intentions, enriching the model's predictive capabilities. The findings highlight the potential of our method to contribute to the development of proactive safety measures and collision avoidance systems, ultimately fostering safer urban mobility landscapes for all road users. © 2024 IEEE.

Traffic Density Estimation by Distributed Proxy Model Learning for Internet-of-Vehicle

Autonomous driving has been significantly advanced in todays society, which revolutionized daily routines and facilitated the development of the Internet of Vehicles (IoV). A crucial aspect of this system is understanding traffic density to enable intelligent traffic management. With the rapid improvement in deep neural networks (DNNs), the accuracy of density estimation has markedly improved. However, there are two main issues that remain unsolved. Firstly, current DNN-based models are excessively heavy, characterized by an overwhelming number of training parameters (millions or even billions) and substantial computational complexity, indicated by a high number of FLOPs. These requirements for storage and computation severely limit the practical application of these models, especially on edge devices with limited capacity and computational power. Secondly, despite the superior performance of DNN models, their effectiveness largely depends on the availability of large-scale data for training. Growing privacy concerns have made individuals increasingly hesitant to allow their data to be publicly used for model training, particularly in vehicle-related applications that might reveal personal movements, which leads to data isolation issues. In this paper, we address these two problems at once with a systematic framework. Specifically, we introduce the Proxy Model Distributed Learning (PMDL) model for traffic density estimation. PMDL model is composed of two main components. First, we introduce a proxy model learning strategy that transfers fine-grained knowledge from a larger master model to a lightweight proxy model, i.e., a proxy model. Second, we design a distributed learning strategy that trains multiple proxy models with privacy-aware local data and seamlessly aggregates these models via a global parameter server. In this study, we demonstrated light shift detection in a running atomic clock using the multi-photodetection method. This method enables the observation of atomic resonances with different intensities using the intensity distribution of the laser beam. As it requires only two photodiodes to detect light shifts, it is easily applicable to miniature vapor-cell-based atomic clocks such as chip-scale atomic clocks and miniature atomic clocks. © 2023 IEEE.

The growing risk of cyber-attacks and information vulnerability has become a major problem in today's dynamic digital environment. Skin diseases are health issues that can be experienced by pets and potentially be transmitted from wild animals. However, current prediction systems predominantly rely on complex calculations that necessitate high computational power, making them challenging to deploy on mobile applications. Therefore, this study aims to optimize a skin disease detection system based on convolutional neural networks (CNN) using datasets from both wild and domestic cats. The quantized globalization model is a modified ResNet50 converted with TensorFlow Lite. This 8-bit quantization is necessary to develop a lightweight deep learning model that could operate on low-computational power units, such as smartphone or 8-bit edge computing devices. This study utilized a dataset comprising 343 images, categorized into six classes: five classes of diseases (abscesses, mange, ringworm, skin cancer, dermatitis) and one class for healthy skin. Next, the dataset was augmented to increase data variation and quantity. Subsequently, the dataset was trained on the ResNet-50 model and then converted to TensorFlow Lite with 8-bit integer data type. Finally, the quantized globalization model was validated using a separate 20% of the dataset. The validation results yielded an accuracy score of 0.930, a precision of 0.908, a recall of 0.902, and an F1-score of 0.903. Additionally, there was a significant 74.7% reduction in model size compared to the non-quantized version, demonstrating the efficiency and effectiveness of the quantization process in maintaining performance while substantially decreasing the computational resource requirements. © 2024 IEEE.

The rapid development of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite networks has provided ubiquitous Internet access to users around the world, especially in areas where there are no terrestrial networks. However, a dish can only communicate with one of the available satellites when uploading data in the current framework, resulting in low communication efficiency. As the number of satellites continues to increase, the current framework cannot make full use of the user-satellite link resources. In this paper, we first conduct a measurement of Starlink's network performance and report some unique features. Then, we propose an adaptive multi-link data allocation framework for LEO satellite networks where a dish can communicate with multiple satellites at the same time to improve data transmission efficiency. With this framework, data can be split into chunks and uploaded simultaneously over multiple links. Our goal is to determine the data allocation strategies to jointly optimize the transmission latency and data processing costs. To this end, we propose a deep reinforcement learning-based algorithm integrated with the traffic prediction module to determine the optimal data allocation strategies in a dynamic network environment. Through extensive simulations, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach compared with baselines. © 2024 IEEE.
