Heat management is crucial for state-of-the-art applications such as passive radiative cooling, thermally adjustable wearables, and camouflage systems. Their adaptive versions, to cater to varied requirements, lean on the potential of adaptive metamaterials. Existing efforts, however, feature with highly anisotropic parameters, narrow working-temperature ranges, and the need for manual intervention, which remain long-term and tricky obstacles for the most advanced self-adaptive metamaterials. To surmount these barriers, we introduce heat-enhanced thermal diffusion metamaterials powered by deep learning. Such active metamaterials can automatically sense ambient temperatures and swiftly, as well as continuously, adjust their thermal functions with a high degree of tunability. They maintain robust thermal performance even when external thermal fields change direction, and both simulations and experiments demonstrate exceptional results. Furthermore, we design two metadevices with on-demand adaptability, performing distinctive features with isotropic materials, wide working temperatures, and spontaneous response. This work offers a framework for the design of intelligent thermal diffusion metamaterials and can be expanded to other diffusion fields, adapting to increasingly complex and dynamic environments. Integrating components from convolutional neural networks and state space models in medical image segmentation presents a compelling approach to enhance accuracy and efficiency. We introduce Mamba-HUNet, a novel architecture tailored for robust and efficient segmentation tasks. Leveraging strengths from Mamba-UNet and the lighter version of Hierarchical Upsampling Network (HUNet), Mamba-HUNet combines convolutional neural networks’ local feature extraction power with state space models’ long-range dependency modeling capabilities. The lighter HUNet was integrated into Mamba-HUNet, maintaining performance parity while improving computational efficiency. Mamba-HUNet improves existing semantic segmentation methods by efficiently capturing localized fine-grained features and long-range dependencies in medical images through Visual State Space blocks and patch merging layers. This results in enhanced segmentation accuracy and robustness. Experimental results on publicly available Magnetic Resonance Imaging scans, notably in Multiple Sclerosis lesion segmentation, demonstrate Mamba-HUNet’s superior performance across diverse segmentation tasks, highlighting its potential in improving clinical decision-making processes. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Intriguingly, conducting perovskite interfaces between ordinary band insulators are widely explored, whereas similar interfaces with Mott insulators are still not quite understood. Here, we address the (001), (110), and (111) interfaces between the LaTiO3 Mott, and large band gap KTaO3 insulators. Based on first-principles calculations, we reveal a mechanism of interfacial conductivity, which is distinct from a formerly studied one applicable to interfaces between polar wideband insulators. Here, the key factor causing conductivity is the matching of oxygen octahedra tilting in KTaO3 and LaTiO3 which, due to a small gap in the LaTiO3 results in its sensitivity to the crystal structure, yields metallization of its overlayer and following charge transfer from Ti to Ta. Our findings, also applicable to other Mott insulators interfaces, shed light on the emergence of conductivity observed in LaTiO3/KTaO3 (110) where the “polar” arguments are not applicable and on the emergence of superconductivity in these structures.

High-accuracy localization has attracted significant research interest for decades. Recent use cases such as Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR) applications have renewed demand for localization with sub-centimeter resolution. Here, we propose iPos: Isochrons in Photonic Oscillators for Positioning, a highly accurate three-dimensional (3D) localization system leveraging isochrons in tunable photonic oscillators. To that end, we exploit the well-known capabilities of tunable photonic oscillators and recent results on their isochrons' structure to introduce an innovative mechanism for measuring Time of Arrival (ToA). The proposed timing mechanism measures the ToA of the incoming user signal leveraging the phase shifts of photonic oscillators based on their phase response, which is uniquely determined by their isochrons' structure. Furthermore, iPos employs the photonic injection locking technique and the nonlinear properties of the photonic oscillators to achieve highly accurate phase synchronization among different positioning nodes. Our numerical results indicate that iPos achieves cm-level accuracy in three- dimensional localization. This accuracy is at least an order of magnitude higher compared to existing positioning systems, owing to the proposed photonic timing mechanism, which offers high-resolution ToA measurements that translate to highly accurate distance information, further enhanced by seamless synchronization achieved through injection-locking techniques.

This work presents the design and development of IIT Bombay Racing’s Formula Student style autonomous race-car algorithm capable of running at the racing events of Formula Student-AI, held in the UK. The car employs a cutting-edge sensor suite of the compute unit NVIDIA Jetson Orin AGX, 2 ZED2i stereo cameras, 1 Velodyne Puck VLP16 LiDAR and SBG Systems Ellipse N GNSS/INS IMU. It features deep learning algorithms and control systems to navigate complex tracks and execute maneuvers without any human intervention. The design process involved extensive simulations and testing to optimize the vehicle’s performance and ensure its safety. The algorithms have been tested on a small scale, in-house manufactured 4-wheeled robot and on simulation software. The results obtained for testing various algorithms in perception, simultaneous localization and mapping, path planning and controls have been detailed. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.

Industrial safety is more important in both safety of human being and machines. To ensure this the temperature of the machine is monitored continuously and if any abnormal situation arises, the machine will be isolated from the supply using IoT. Similarly, the sound and vibration inside the factory is monitored using vibration sensor and intimated to the control room if needed. The control room may be located in remote place the information will be sent to them using IoT. Vibration may induce due sudden fall of any heavy materials, braking of machine shaft, fall of objects from Crane, etc. The vibration caused by the unexpected incident will be identified by the vibration sensor provide in the factory/ Industry in various places. The sensor will alarm by siren and intimate to the operator or control room. SMS (Small Message Service) also send to the operator through GSM.

Optical response of two-dimensional Dirac materials with a flat band

Two-dimensional Dirac materials with a flat band have been demonstrated to possess a plethora of unusual electronic properties, but the optical properties of these materials are less studied. Utilizing α−T3 lattice as a prototypical system, where 0≤α≤1 is a tunable parameter and a flat band through the conic intersection of two Dirac cones arises for α>0, we investigate the conductivity of flat-band Dirac material systems analytically and numerically. Motivated by the fact that the imaginary part of the optical conductivity can have significant effects on the optical response and is an important factor of consideration for developing α−T3 lattice based optical devices, we are led to derive a complete conductivity formula with both the real and imaginary parts. Scrutinizing the formula, we uncover two phenomena. First, for the value of α in some range, two types of optical transitions coexist: one between the two Dirac cones and another from the flat band to a cone, which generate multifrequency transverse electrical propagating waves. Second, for α=1 so the quasiparticles become pseudospin-1, the flat-to-cone transition can result in resonant scattering. These results pave the way to exploiting α−T3 lattice for optical device applications in the terahertz-frequency domain.

Laser-induced thermocapillary deformation of liquid surfaces has emerged as a promising tool to precisely characterize the thermophysical properties of pure ***,challenges arise for nanofluid(NF)and soft biofluid systems where the direct interaction of the laser generates an intriguing interplay between heating,momentum,and scattering forces which can even damage soft ***,we report a versatile,pump-probe-based,rapid,and non-contact interferometric technique that resolves interface dynamics of complex fluids with the precision of~1 nm in thick-film and 150 pm in thin-film regimes below the thermal limit without the use of lock-in or modulated *** characterize the thermophysical properties of complex NF in three exclusively different types of ***,when the NF is heated from the bottom through an opaque substrate,we demonstrate that our methodology permits the measurement of thermophysical properties(viscosity,surface tension,and diffusivity)of complex NF and ***,in a top illumination configuration,we show a precise characterization of NF by quantitively isolating the competing forces,taking advantage of the different time scales of these ***,we show the measurement of NF confined in a metal cavity,in which the transient thermoelastic deformation of the metal surface provides the properties of the NF as well as thermo-mechanical properties of the *** results reveal how the dissipative nature of the heatwave allows us to investigate thick-film dynamics in the thin-film regime,thereby suggesting a general approach for precision measurements of complex NFs,biofluids,and optofluidic devices.
