This paper presents the (Formula presented.) State-Feedback control for Continuous Semi-Markov Jump Linear Systems where the transition rates are given by the ratio of polynomials of the sojourn time. We show that, for instance, Rayleigh-, Erlang- and a class of Weibull-distributed sojourn time can be described by such a model. We present general results on the stability and on the (Formula presented.) of Semi-Markov Jump Linear Systems and provide sum-of-squares conditions for norm calculation and state-feedback control design problems. We conclude the paper by presenting two numerical examples that point out the main features of our results and by discussing future directions and related problems. © 2021 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

In response to the escalating demand for electricity, the aging process and inherent failures in power lines have become unavoidable challenges in their operational integrity. This research addresses the imperative need for a robust method to detect damage in power insulator disc images, introducing a novel feature extraction technique grounded in color intensity profile transformation and ensemble learning. For the purposes of the research, a specific dataset was developed based on publicly available images of power insulators. The collection consists of 9232 images of insulator discs which included 2184 images of damaged discs. The discernible damages include breakages and burnouts. Two distinct analysis variants were employed. In the first variant (V1), two classification groups were selected: disc with damages and disc without damages. In the second variant (V2), three classification groups were selected: discs without damage, broken discs, and burnout discs. The described research was divided into two successive stages. In the first of them (S1), the transformed color intensity profiles for the prepared data set were built and various machine learning models for their classification were trained and evaluated. In the next stage (S2), previously developed, highest efficient machine learning models, were used to make the detection of various damaged types of overhead line insulator discs. For the first stage of research high-performance results and a high value of the F1 score parameters were obtained (F1 score = 0.999 for the first variant (S1V1) and F1 score = 0.992 for the second variant (S1V2). In the second stage of research and the first variant (S2V1), the highest result of the F1 score was 0.932 and for the second variant (S2V2) F1 score was 0.930. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

An advantage of bio-inspired robots is the versatility of their locomotion on a wide range of terrains that conventional robots are not able to traverse. The snake-like robot, which is a mechanism designed to move in the manner of a biological snake, is an example of a bio-inspired platform. This paper aims to implement and validate, using real and simulation tests on flat terrain, a snake-like endoskeleton robot that permits serpentine movement with adaptive control capabilities. The prototype mechatronic robot was comprised of eleven segments that were 3D printed sequentially. A simulation using Matlab’s Multibody Mechanics tool determines the necessary torques for each motor. In this simulation, a parameterized virtual model of the robot is created, where rectilinear gaits are programmed. In accordance with simulation and experimental results, the robot undertakes different times to reach the goal trajectory or end points depending on the frequency, angular position, and wave length (duty cycle). As a result, there is a high degree of similarity between the simulation tests and those conducted with the prototype endoskeleton. Furthermore, the robot is equipped with machine vision capabilities that allow it to detect faults within oil and gas pipes for the purpose of inspection and maintenance. Furthermore, a Model Reference Adaptive control (MRAC) method based on Lyapunov stability analysis and MIT rules is proposed. The theoretical analysis and numerical simulation show that the designed trajectory tracking control law can make the multi-joint snake-like robot track the trajectory of the front joint when the robot encounters disturbances and stabilize the angular position and velocity of the first two head joints when disturbances occur. © 2024 IEEE.

We introduce a novel differentially private algorithm for online federated learning that employs temporally correlated noise to enhance utility while ensuring privacy of continuously released models. To address challenges posed by DP noise and local updates with streaming non-iid data, we develop a perturbed iterate analysis to control the impact of the DP noise on the utility. Moreover, we demonstrate how the drift errors from local updates can be effectively managed under a quasi-strong convexity condition. Subject to an (, δ) DP budget, we establish a dynamic regret bound over the entire time horizon, quantifying the impact of key parameters and the intensity of changes in dynamic environments. Numerical experiments confirm the efficacy of the proposed algorithm. © 2024 IEEE.

High-dimensional microarray data suffer from the confounding effects of irrelevant, redundant and noisy genes on the scalability and efficiency of classification algorithms. In order for an effective dimensionality reduction and the selection of informative genes, this paper introduces a novel approach using fractional calculus concepts. This study proposes a modified version of binary the bat algorithm named fractional-order binary bat algorithm (FBBA) able to control the convergence process using more historical memory of bat behaviors. The gene selection technique contains a two-stage hybrid filter/wrapper method which employs a new correlation-based feature clustering (CFC) algorithm in the filter stage and the FBBA in the wrapper stage. The CFC-FBBA is evaluated on ten microarray gene expression datasets by employing the support vector machine classifier with a k-fold Monte Carlo cross validation data partitioning model. Furthermore, the results show that the CFC-FBBA, while minimizing the size of the gene subset, achieves the highest classification accuracy in most cases compared to several state-of-art hybrid techniques. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

autonomous unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are crucial in critical target tracking and disaster management services. However, challenges arise due to limited channel capacity causing large transmission delays and constraints imposed by UAV batteries when running computationally intensive object detection and tracking algorithms. To address this, we propose in-telligent offloading computer vision tasks to a high-computational edge server at millimeter wave (mmWave) frequency. Transmission at mmWave needs large transmission power and is susceptible to blockages that necessitate considering the link quality in the offloading policy. Additionally, the timely processing of frames containing objects of interest is essential for context-based UAV operations to achieve a low frame drop rate. In this work, we present a delayed-reward reinforcement learning framework to determine the offloading policy of computer vision tasks in a delay-constrained environment. This approach considers the importance of the content within frames, which is unknown to the UAV. The objective is to jointly reduce UAV energy consumption and frame drop rates, leveraging statistical information of both the channel and the frame semantics. Through extensive simulations, we demonstrate by considering statistical information of the communication channel and frame semantics, we achieve approximately 45% energy savings compared to the UAV's energy consumption when processing all frames locally and maintaining the drop rate of delay-constrained frames below 5%. © 2023 IEEE.

Recent advances in semiconductors industry and microelectronics have created new opportunities for integrating various technologies in energy harvesting projects. These advancements have simplified the process of capturing energy from different sources, such as thermal energy, and converting it into electrical power. Thermo-Electric Generators (TEGs) are commonly used in many applications such as wearable devices. However Thermo-Electric Generators produce very low output voltages, which is insufficient for most low-power electronic circuits to operate. Therefore, a boost converter is essential to step up the voltage output from the TEG to a usable level. In this paper, a DC-DC converter with a high performance in terms of voltage gain is implemented. The proposed quasi-Z-source (q-ZSC) DC-DC converter not only offers high voltage gain but also several significant advantages. The proposed q-ZSC is capable of both boosting and regulating the voltage output efficiently, even under variable input conditions, making it highly suitable for low-power energy harvesting systems such as Thermo-Electric Generators. The design is simulated using MATLAB Simulink software, focusing on integrated circuits, with a strong emphasis on optimizing the circuit's efficiency. This work underscores critical factors in improving energy harvesting circuits, enhancing their performance and effectiveness in low-power applications for wearable technology. © 2024 The Authors.

The contribution begins with the attention that there is attention of directly grid connected wind turbine systems with generator designs adapting to the grid constraints. This paper considers permanent magnet synchronous generator topologies with rotor field coils to achieve reduced mass with good efficiency for smart grids. Conventional double-excited synchronous generators have surface mounted permanent magnets. However, the low relative permeability of PMs results in an increased air-gap size. This increased air-gap size limits the minimal copper-mass of the rotor-field-winding. To improve on this limitation, Interior permanent magnets (IPM) are used. Three rotor topologies with IPM are presented in this paper. The analysis of their 2D FEM results and optimization are shown considering their magnetizing current, torque, Back EMF for smart grids application. The three rotor topologies are compared on the overall active mass and their performance by considering PM and rotor copper mass, torque capabilities and efficiency. The spoke-type topology with rectangular magnets achieves the lowest total rotor mass reduction of 39% total mass reduction when compared to the topology with PMs that are buried horizontally. The reduced copper mass and flux variation capabilities are good characteristics in wind energy conversion generators with direct grid connections for smart grid. © 2023 IEEE.

Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) information play a vital role in everyday life of common persons. People greatly rely on Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)-enabled applications for navigation to reach their desired destination. However, GNSS navigation performance is highly degraded in urban environments due to the high probability of signal interruption, multipath (MP), and/or non-line-of-sight (NLOS) signal reception. Multipath and NLOS being the major causes of disrupted positioning performance for GNSS in urban environments. The navigation signals encountered various environmental factors they are reflected, refracted, diffracted, and completely blocked by high-roof buildings, bridges, and trees, thus leading to severe uncertainties in position estimation. GNSS system has gained notable advancements in terms of number of satellites, satellite geometry and signal quality. In this paper newly established constellation BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS-3) performance is quantified with respect to environmental changes and compared in terms of positional accuracy. The paper also discussed the innovative current developments and status of BDS-3 in 2023. For this reason, series of field experiments were carried out at clear open and urban environment with BDS-3 and GPS mode during the observation time of 6 hours. The BDS-3 system is configured for data logging and used for the first time at Pakistan region. The positioning and navigation performance of BDS-3 is evaluated by utilizing key performance indicators e.g satellite availability, geometric distribution in terms of PDOP, and statistical accuracy measures (i.e., Circular Error Probable (CEP) and Distance Root Mean Square (DRMS)). The experimental results shows that BDS-3 provides more number of satellites, favorable satellite geometry and reduced position error compared to GPS constellation in clear open sky environment.
