This paper introduces an information presentation strategy for pedestrians, aiming to enhance traffic efficiency in a mixed pedestrian-automated vehicle environment, such as a public road. While automated driving technology has made remarkable progress, interactions with pedestrians on regular roads have mostly been studied in virtual environments using virtual reality goggles. According to these studies, potential traffic efficiency and safety issues arise from pedestrians' limited understanding of automated vehicle behavior. To address this, we propose a human-machine interface employing a head-mounted display (HMD) to mitigate traffic efficiency degradation caused by pedestrians. The proposed system draws upon behavioral economics principles to encourage pedestrians to modify their behavior and develop better interactions with automated vehicles. Simulations were conducted to identify an information presentation strategy that strongly supports learning, and its effectiveness was further validated through experiments involving a real vehicle. Notably, the experimental results confirmed that the information presentation strategies proven effective in simulations also facilitated pedestrian learning during real-world interactions. © 2024 IEEE.

The main focus of this research is on improving the performance of dynamic systems with actuator non-linearities and time-varying disturbances. To this end, using the concept of finite-time stability, a novel observer is presented to estimate the disturbances in systems with input non-linearities. Then, introducing an innovative sliding manifold, a robust observer-based technique is derived to guarantee the finite-time stability of the sliding surface. Hence, the closed-loop system would be stable in the presence of hard non-linearities and time-varying disturbances. The performance of the proposed approach was assessed in using a simulation study of two numerical examples. The obtained results and comparison with a conventional method confirmed the benefits of the suggested approach. © 2022 The Authors. The article compares selected classification algorithms and those dedicated to anomaly detection. The models used temperature measurements in four rooms simulated in the MATLAB Simscape environment as test signals. The empirical part of the work consists of two parts. In the first one, an example data from the simulated building heating model object, models were built using unsupervised and supervised machine learning algorithms. Then, data from the facility was collected again with changed parameters (failures occurred at times other than the test ones, and the temperature patterns differed from those recorded and used to train the models). The algorithm effects and test signals (temperature changes) were saved in the database. The results were presented graphically in the Grafana program. The second part of the work presents a solution in which the analysis of the operating status of the heating system takes place in real time. Using an OPC server, data was exchanged between the MATLAB environment and the database installed on a virtual machine in the Ubuntu system. The conclusions present the results and collect the authors’ suggestions regarding the practical applications of the discussed classification models. © 2025 The Author(s).

Enabling resilient autonomous motion planning requires robust predictions of surrounding road users' future behavior. In response to this need and the associated challenges, we introduce our model titled MTP-GO. The model encodes the scene using temporal graph neural networks to produce the inputs to an underlying motion model. The motion model is implemented using neural ordinary differential equations where the state-transition functions are learned with the rest of the model. Multimodal probabilistic predictions are obtained by combining the concept of mixture density networks and Kalman filtering. The results illustrate the predictive capabilities of the proposed model across various data sets, outperforming several state-of-the-art methods on a number of metrics. © 2016 IEEE.

In recent years, stochastic detectors have gained prominence in networked systems for anomaly detection. These detectors have demonstrated advantages over their traditional counterparts, particularly in safe-guarding against data integrity attacks targeting state estimation. Despite these advancements, the impact of the detector on alarm performance-such as alarm-triggering rates at normal conditions-remains under-explored, especially in scenarios where delay timers are applied to the raw alarm sequence. This study delves into the monitoring of a correlated Gaussian process variable using stochastic detectors. An explicit formula for the alarm performance is given, highlighting how it is influenced by the duration of delay timers. The efficacy of the proposed approach is validated through numerical examples and a simplified process model.

Output Tracking control of a Nonlinear System Based on Takagi-Sugeno Fuzzy Model: Generalized Partial Eigenstructure Assignment Approach

This paper introduces an innovative optimal control approach to achieve output tracking while incorporating H2-performance specifications in a specific class of nonlinear dynamics modeled by the Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model (TSFM). The primary innovation lies in extending partial eigenstructure assignment to TSFM-based nonlinear systems within the framework of sliding mode control (SMC). We propose a two-step methodology for designing optimal sliding surface gains. Initially, optimal state feedback gains are computed for each rule consequence containing a linear subsystem, adhering to predetermined eigenvalues and satisfying H2-performance criteria. Subsequently, using a convex combination, the overall state feedback gain is calculated and utilized to design sliding matrix gains. The sliding matrix gains are then determined by strategically combining previously calculated state-feedback gains in a convex optimization problem. We reframe the output tracking strategy as a stabilization problem using a virtual control input and reformulate the optimization task concerning tracking state errors. This process yields state feedback gains, sliding gains, and the formulation of the virtual control input. The effectiveness of our approach is verified through comprehensive simulations, emphasizing its capability in addressing output tracking challenges within nonlinear systems. © 2013 IEEE.
