Hierarchical Federated Learning (HFL) introduces intermediate aggregation layers, addressing the limitations of conventional Federated Learning (FL) in geographically dispersed environments with limited communication infrastructure. An application of HFL is in smart IoT systems, such as remote monitoring, disaster response, and battlefield operations, where cellular connectivity is often unreliable or unavailable. In these scenarios, UAVs serve as mobile aggregators, providing connectivity to the terrestrial IoT devices. This paper studies an HFL architecture for energy-constrained UAVs in smart IoT systems, pioneering a solution to minimize global training cost increased caused by UAV disconnection. In light of this, we formulate a joint optimization problem involving learning configuration, bandwidth allocation, and device-to-UAV association, and perform global aggregation in time before UAV drops disconnect and redeployment of UAVs. The problem explicitly accounts for the dynamic nature of IoT devices and their interruptible communications and is unveiled to be NP-hard. To address this, we decompose it into three subproblems. First, we optimize the learning configuration and bandwidth allocation using an augmented Lagrangian function to reduce training costs. Second, we propose a device fitness score, integrating data heterogeneity (via Kullback-Leibler divergence), device-to-UAV distances, and IoT device resources, and develop a twin-delayed deep deterministic policy gradient (TD3)-based algorithm for dynamic device-to-UAV assignment. Third, We introduce a low-complexity two-stage greedy strategy for finding the location of UAVs redeployment and selecting the appropriate global aggregator UAV. Machine Learning (ML) algorithms have experienced a significant increase in popularity owing to the digitisation of analogue processes and other technological advancements, like the Internet of Things (IoT). Dependable datasets are crucial for the precise forecasting and resolution abilities of these algorithms, which are indispensable in healthcare, cloud computing, engineering, and finance. Conversely, training datasets are vulnerable to manipulation, thereby skewing the results. To address this issue, blockchain-based approaches have been proposed to enhance the reliability and security of cloud-stored E-Health data generated by the Internet of Things. To improve the accuracy and efficacy of healthcare prediction models, our study focusses on an advanced strategy that integrates feature selection with model training. Optimal input data is refined by feature selection employing entropy and correlation coefficient methodologies. The proposed model, employing BiGRU and BiLSTM, surpasses conventional CNNs and BiRNNs, with an average accuracy of 94.57%. When integrated with the Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain technology ensures the secure storage and transmission of electronic health records (EHRs). This strategy enhances predictive accuracy and safeguards sensitive health data in cloud infrastructures by amalgamating feature selection techniques with robust deep learning models.

Fast reroute (FRR) mechanisms that can instantly handle network failures in the data plane are gaining attention in packet-switched networks. In FRR no notification messages are required as the nodes adjacent to the failure are prepared with a routing table such that the packets are re-routed only based on local information. However, designing the routing algorithm for FRR is challenging because the number of possible sets of failed network links and nodes can be extremely high, while the algorithm should keep track of which nodes are aware of the failure. In this paper, we propose a generic algorithmic framework that combines the benefits of Integer Linear Programming (ILP) and an effective approach from graph theory related to constructive graph characterization of k-connected graphs, i.e., edge splitting-off. We illustrate these benefits through arborescence design for FRR and show that (i) due to the ILP we have great flexibility in defining the routing problem, while (ii) the problem can still be solved very fast. We demonstrate through simulations that our framework outperforms state-of-the-art FRR mechanisms and provides better resilience with shorter paths in the arborescences. © 2023 IEEE.

Arithmetic circuits form the foundation of modern digital computation, enabling us to conduct precise mathematical operations and drive the digital age. They are integral components in nearly every digital circuit, such as processors' arithmetic and logic units. Especially in safety-critical domains like automotive and aviation, the flawless operation of these circuits is of paramount importance. This paper presents a case study involving two variants of Dadda multipliers and assesses their intrinsic reliability when affected by permanent hardware faults. We conducted extensive fault injection campaigns on the circuit models under various datasets, presenting the aggregated statistical errors in the form of the mean absolute error (MAE) for each case. Specifically, we performed fault injection campaigns in which the operands are sourced from trained quantized weights of a convolutional neural network, as well as randomly generated sets of integers. The results not only reveal differences between the two circuits but also show significant variations when different datasets are used in the fault injection campaigns.

The research presents a new efficient machine learning method to classify brain tumors because this task remains vital in fighting the high incidence of brain cancers. The proposed approach unites all its operations including image segmentation with feature extraction and classification into a single processing system. This study uses Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Adaptive PSO (APSO) methodologies to optimize Locally Linear Radial Basis Function Neural Network (LLRBFNN) resulting in PSO-LLRBFNN and APSO-LLRBFNN model implementations. The research examined the optimized APSO-LLRBFNN models against Support Vector Machines (SVM) and Least Mean Squares (LMS) based LLRBFNN classifier methods. Results from experiments show that APSO-LLRBFNN gives superior outcomes with 98.93% accuracy and takes 12.23 seconds for execution, which surpasses currently available methods.

In the rapidly advancing landscape of intelligent medical technology, high-precision and widely applicable medical image segmentation techniques are pivotal in advancing personalized treatment plans and enhancing patient experiences. To address inherent obstacles, such as complex structures and features that are difficult to capture in segmentation tasks, we first propose a CMH module that merges convolutional neural networks (CNNs) with state space models (e.g., Mamba). This module hierarchically integrates CNN's local priors into the Mamba layer, adeptly capturing specific details of target objects and broader contextual information from different perspectives. Subsequently, we introduce an information fusion module based on Mamba (MIH), aimed at dynamically fusing feature information from different paths and levels to enhance feature expression and discrimination. Building upon the abovementioned modules, we develop an unexplored segmentation model, CMHNet, capable of flexibly capturing feature maps of varying scales and angles from medical images. In the experiments, we present CMHNet's distinguished performance in segmentation tasks through massive experiments on four medical datasets. © 2024 IEEE.

The paper presents two ways of modeling fractional-order systems using delta and nabla definitions of Grünwald-Letnikov fractional-order difference. Finite-length approximation of fractional-order system are then applied for designing a linear-quadratic-estimator of fractional-order system. Predicted state-space vector are used by linear-quadratic-regulator. That approach enables simple determination of standard integer-order LQG controller for control of fractional-order system. The simulation experiments confirm that presented methodology is efficient and enables obtaining a good controller performance.

Augmented reality (AR) games, particularly those designed for headsets, have become increasingly prevalent with advancements in both hardware and software. However, the majority of AR games still rely on pre-scanned or static scenes, and interaction mechanisms are often limited to controllers or hand-tracking. Additionally, the presence of identical objects in AR games poses challenges for conventional object tracking techniques, which often struggle to differentiate between identical objects or necessitate the installation of fixed cameras for global object movement tracking. In response to these limitations, we present a novel approach to address the tracking of identical objects in an AR scene to enrich physical-virtual interaction. Our method leverages partial scene observations captured by an AR headset, utilizing the perspective and spatial data provided by this technology. Object identities within the scene are determined through the solution of a label assignment problem using integer programming. To enhance computational efficiency, we incorporate a Voronoi diagram-based pruning method into our approach. Our implementation of this approach in a farm-to-table AR game demonstrates its satisfactory performance and robustness. Furthermore, we showcase the versatility and practicality of our method through applications in AR storytelling and a simulated gaming robot. Our video demo is available at: https://***/ rPGkLYuKvCQ. Accelerating Stable Matching between Workers and Spatial-Temporal Tasks for Dynamic MCS: A Stagewise Service Trading Approach

Designing proper incentives in mobile crowdsensing (MCS) networks represents a critical mechanism in engaging distributed mobile users (workers) to contribute heterogeneous data for diverse applications (tasks). We develop a novel stagewise trading framework to reach efficient and stable matching between tasks and workers, upon considering the diversity of tasks and the dynamism of MCS networks. This framework integrates futures and spot trading stages, where in the former, we propose futures trading-driven stable matching and pre-path-planning (FT-SMP3) for long-term task-worker assignment and pre-planning of workers’ paths based on historical statistics and risk analysis. While in the latter, we investigate spot trading-driven DQN path planning and onsite worker recruitment (ST-DP2WR) mechanism to enhance workers’ and tasks’ practical utilities by facilitating temporary worker recruitment. We prove that our proposed mechanisms support crucial properties such as stability, individual rationality, competitive equilibrium, and weak Pareto optimality theoretically. Also, comprehensive evaluations confirm the satisfaction of these properties in practical network settings, demonstrating our commendable performance in terms of service quality, running time, and decision-making overheads.
