Optimal Configuration of Self-Consistent Microgrid System with Hydrogen Energy Storage for Highway Service Area

Targeting on the goal of carbon peaking and carbon neutralization, the transportation sector is facing the pressure of carbon reduction, emission reduction and energy transformation simultaneously. Building a green, flexible, self-consistent and sustainable road transportation energy integration system has become an inevitable trend for the future development in an area without power grid. This paper proposes a self-consistent micro grid system model for wind and solar power with hydrogen energy storage for a highway service area without power grid connection. On this basis, a micro grid optimal configuration model is proposed with the goal of minimizing the comprehensive cost of the micro grid in the service area, under the constraints of the battery, hydrogen energy storage system (ESS), and the power balance of the micro grid system. Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm is employed to solve the problem for a case study to verify the effectiveness of the model and the method proposed. Experimental results show that the model proposed in this paper not only improves the renewable energy utilization rate of the system, but also improves the reliability of power supply, verifying the effectiveness of the micro grid configuration scheme for the highway service area containing hydrogen ESS.

In this paper, we study unconstrained distributed optimization strongly convex problems, in which the exchange of information in the network is captured by a directed graph topology over digital channels that have limited capacity (and hence information should be quantized). Distributed methods in which nodes use quantized communication yield a solution at the proximity of the optimal solution, hence reaching an error floor that depends on the quantization level used;the finer the quantization the lower the error floor. However, it is not possible to determine in advance the optimal quantization level that ensures specific performance guarantees (such as achieving an error floor below a predefined threshold). Choosing a very small quantization level that would guarantee the desired performance, requires information packets of very large size, which is not desirable (could increase the probability of packet losses, increase delays, etc) and often not feasible due to the limited capacity of the channels available. In order to obtain a communication-efficient distributed solution and a sufficiently close proximity to the optimal solution, we propose a quantized distributed optimization algorithm that converges in a finite number of steps and is able to adjust the quantization level accordingly. The proposed solution uses a finite-time distributed optimization protocol to find a solution to the problem for a given quantization level in a finite number of steps and keeps refining the quantization level until the difference in the solution between two successive solutions with different quantization levels is below a certain pre-specified threshold. Therefore, the proposed algorithm progressively refines the quantization level, thus eventually achieving low error floor with a reduced communication burden. Geometric Reachability for Attitude control Systems via Contraction Theory

In this paper, we present a geometric framework for the reachability analysis of attitude control systems. We model the attitude dynamics on the product manifold SO(3) × 3 and introduce a novel parametrized family of Riemannian metrics on this space. Using contraction theory on manifolds, we establish reliable upper bounds on the Riemannian distance between nearby trajectories of the attitude control systems. By combining these trajectory bounds with numerical simulations, we provide a simulation-based algorithm to over-approximate the reachable sets of attitude systems. We show that the search for optimal metrics for distance bounds can be efficiently performed using semidefinite programming. Additionally, we introduce a practical and effective representation of these over-approximations on manifolds, enabling their integration with existing Euclidean tools and software. Compressive Sensing-Based Reconstruction of Lissajous-Like Nodding Lidar Data

In this article, a compressive sensing-based reconstruction algorithm is applied to data acquired from a nodding multibeam Lidar system following a Lissajous-like trajectory. Multibeam Lidar systems provide 3D depth information of the environment, but the vertical resolution of these devices may be insufficient in many applications. To mitigate this issue, the Lidar can be nodded to obtain higher vertical resolution at the cost of increased scan time. Using Lissajous-like nodding trajectories allows for the trade-off between scan time and horizontal and vertical resolutions through the choice of scan parameters. These patterns also naturally subsample the imaged area. In this article, a compressive sensing-based reconstruction algorithm is applied to the data collected during a relatively fast and therefore low-resolution Lissajous-like scan. Experiments and simulations show the feasibility of this method and compare the reconstructions to those made using simple nearest-neighbor interpolation. © 2021 ASME Letters in Dynamic Systems and control. Efficient service provisioning in the Edge-to-Cloud Continuum is of utmost importance for modern applications. While sensible decisions can be taken if enough monitoring data is collected, maintaining continuous telemetry data streams amidst the continuum’s complexity is challenging. This paper introduces CRISP (reConstructing Resource Information for Service Placement), a solution combining data reconstruction and service placement strategies to optimize decisions despite incomplete monitoring data. CRISP utilizes Convolutional Neural Networks and Long Short-Term Memory models for data reconstruction, integrating them with a heuristic algorithm that selects nodes for service component placement. Numerical results demonstrate CRISP’s efficacy in optimizing service provisioning despite missing data, contributing to enhanced resource utilization and service performance in the considered context.

Path-tracking control is an integral part of motion planning in autonomous vehicles, where a control system on the vehicle will provide acceleration and steering angle commands to ensure accurate tracking of its longitudinal and lateral movements in reference to a pre-defined trajectory. In this paper, a scenario and machine learning-based data-driven control approach is proposed for a path-tracking controller. Firstly, a deep reinforcement learning (DRL) model is developed to facilitate the control of the vehicle's longitudinal speed. A deep deterministic policy gradient algorithm is employed to train the reinforcement learning model. The main objective of this model is to maintain a safe distance from a lead vehicle (if present) or track a velocity set by the driver. Secondly, a lateral steering controller is developed to control the steering angle of the vehicle with the main goal of following a reference trajectory. Finally, the longitudinal and lateral control models are coupled to obtain a complete path-tracking controller at a wide range of vehicle speeds. The state-of-the-art model-based path-tracking controller is also built (using the model predictive control and Stanley control) to evaluate the performance of the proposed model. The results showed that the performance of the proposed data-driven DRL control model is effective compared with model-based control approaches (in terms of the velocity error, lateral yaw angle error, and lateral distance error).

Robust Multivariate Detection and Estimation with Fault Frequency Content Information

This paper studies the problem of fault detection and estimation (FDE) for linear time-invariant (LTI) systems with a particular focus on frequency content information of faults, possibly as multiple disjoint continuum ranges, and under both disturbances and stochastic noise. To ensure the worst-case fault sensitivity in the considered frequency ranges and mitigate the effects of disturbances and noise, an optimization framework incorporating a mixed H/H2 performance index is developed to compute the optimal detection filter. Moreover, a thresholding rule is proposed to guarantee both the false alarm rate (FAR) and the fault detection rate (FDR). Next, shifting attention to fault estimation in specific frequency ranges, an exact reformulation of the optimal estimation filter design using the restricted H∞ performance index is derived, which is inherently non-convex. However, focusing on finite frequency samples and fixed poles, a lower bound is established via a highly tractable quadratic programming (QP) problem. This lower bound together with an alternating optimization (AO) approach to the original estimation problem leads to a suboptimality gap for the overall estimation filter design. The effectiveness of the proposed approaches is validated through applications of a non-minimum phase hydraulic turbine system and a multi-area power system. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. This paper investigates stealthy attacks on sampled-data control systems, where a continuous process is sampled periodically, and the resultant discrete output and control signals are transmitted through dual channels in wireless communication networks. Acknowledging the vulnerability of these transmitted data to cyber threats, we analyze two types of stealthy attacks that compromise either one or both channels. We explicitly present the necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of stealthy single-channel attacks. To mitigate these security risks, we implement encryption-based countermeasures, including linear time-invariant and periodic encryption methods. We detail sufficient conditions under which these encryption strategies effectively thwart single- and dual-channel stealthy attacks. The effectiveness of these approaches and the theoretical findings are demonstrated through numerical simulations. © 1963-2012 IEEE.
