In real-world datasets, leveraging the low-rank and sparsity properties enables developing efficient algorithms across a diverse array of data-related tasks, including compression, compressed sensing, matrix completion, etc. Notably, these two properties often coexist in certain real-world datasets, especially in Boolean datasets and quantized real-valued datasets. To harness the advantages of low-rank and sparsity simultaneously, we adopt a technique inspired by compressed sensing and Boolean matrix completion. Our approach entails compressing a low-rank sparse Boolean matrix by performing inner product operations with a randomly generated Boolean matrix. We then propose a decoding algorithms based on message-passing techniques to recover the original matrix. Our experiments demonstrate superior recovery performance of our proposed algorithms compared to Boolean matrix completion, with equal measurement requirements. © 2025 IEEE.

electrical energy is necessary for daily operations. The promotion of producing electrical power from renewable energy sources like wind, tidal waves, and solar energy is due to the significant relevance of all potential energy sources from which it may be generated. As a consequence of the recent increase in interest in renewable energy sources, there have been a sizable number of studies on integrating distributed production into the electrical grid. The main objective of adding DG units to the network is to deliver a net amount of energy while reducing power losses. To reduce the distribution system's power losses, it is essential to determine the required ratings and best placements for local generations. Much research has been carried out to establish the best place for DG installation. This research study deals with the new algorithm, called the Naked Mole-Rat Algorithm (NMRA), to evaluate the required ratings and best locations of Distributed Generation (DG) units in a radial distribution system, considering minimum power losses and improvements in the voltage profile. In this work, the placement of DG units is found using a fuzzy method, and the size of DG is estimated using a Naked Mole-Rat algorithm. The proposed approach was developed in MATLAB, and after being evaluated on test systems with 15-bus and 33-bus, the results were provided.

Realizing Generalized Zero-Shot Learning (GZSL) based on large models is emerging as a prevailing trend. However, most existing methods merely regard large models as black boxes, solely leveraging the features output by the final layer while disregarding potential performance enhancements from other layers. Indeed, numerous researchers have visually depicted variations in the features learned across different layers of neural networks. Motivated by this observation, we propose a Vision Transformer (ViT)-based GZSL method named Depth-Aware Multi-Modal ViT (DAM2ViT), which exploits multi-level features of ViT. DAM2ViT incorporates a multi-modal interaction block to align semantic information of categories across multiple layers, thereby augmenting the model’s capacity to learn associations between visual and semantic spaces. Extensive experiments conducted on three benchmark datasets (i.e., CUB, SUN, AWA2) have showcased that DAM2ViT achieves competitive results compared to state-of-the-art methods. © 2024 IEEE.

control barrier functions (CBFs) have been widely used for synthesizing controllers in safety-critical applications. When used as a safety filter, it provides a simple and computationally efficient way to obtain safe controls from a possibly unsafe performance controller. Despite its conceptual simplicity, constructing a valid CBF is well known to be challenging, especially for high-relative degree systems under nonconvex constraints. Recently, work has been done to learn a valid CBF from data based on a handcrafted CBF (HCBF). Even though the HCBF gives a good initialization point, it still requires a large amount of data to train the CBF network. In this work, we propose a new method to learn more efficiently from the collected data through a novel prioritized data sampling strategy. A priority score is computed from the loss value of each data point. Then, a probability distribution based on the priority score of the data points is used to sample data and update the learned CBF. Using our proposed approach, we can learn a valid CBF that recovers a larger portion of the true safe set using a smaller amount of data. The effectiveness of our method is demonstrated in simulation on a unicycle and a two-link arm. © 2023, CC BY.

Low-Complexity control for a Class of Uncertain MIMO Nonlinear Systems under Generalized Time-Varying Output Constraints

This paper introduces a novel control framework to address the satisfaction of multiple time-varying output constraints in uncertain high-order MIMO nonlinear control systems. Unlike existing methods, which often assume that the constraints are always decoupled and feasible, our approach can handle coupled time-varying constraints even in the presence of potential infeasibilities. First, it is shown that satisfying multiple constraints essentially boils down to ensuring the positivity of a scalar variable, representing the signed distance from the boundary of the time-varying output-constrained set. To achieve this, a single consolidating constraint is designed that, when satisfied, guarantees convergence to and invariance of the time-varying output-constrained set within a user-defined finite time. Next, a novel robust and low-complexity feedback controller is proposed to ensure the satisfaction of the consolidating constraint. Additionally, we provide a mechanism for online modification of the consolidating constraint to find a least violating solution when the constraints become mutually infeasible for some time. Finally, a simulation study validates the proposed approach. ©1963-2012 IEEE.

This paper investigates the rate outage constrained (ROC) energy efficiency (EE) under multiple-input single-output (MISO) interference channels, where only channel distribution information (CDI) is available at base stations (BSs). An EE maximization problem is formulated under the constraints of tolerable rate outage probability of each user and the power budget of each BS. Due to the computationally intractable form of the considered problem, two equivalent formulations are derived and four algorithms are proposed, where two are based on the block successive upper bound minimization (BSUM) method and the other two are based on the successive convex approximation (SCA) method. Further, the philosophies behind the BSUM-based algorithms and the SCA-based algorithms are analyzed. Numerical results demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed algorithms, while the BSUM-based algorithms are much more computationally efficient than all the state-of-the-art algorithms, as long as all the coupling requirements on quality of service (like ROC transmission) can be fused into EE. Besides, the impacts of power budget, circuit power and tolerable outage probability on the ROC EE are revealed and discussed. © 2025 IEEE. All rights reserved.

The popularity of vehicles based on electricity is increasing as they are considered a sustainable mode of transportation. The charging infrastructure for electric vehicles are suffering various issues. There are limited availability of public charging stations, the high costs associated with installing private charging stations, and the high variability of electricity prices. The peer-to-peer (P2P) energy stability will be seen as a potential solution to facilitate electric vehicle (EV) charging in a manner that is both cost-effective and environmentally sustainable. The paper presents a novel system energy trading and charging payment for electric vehicles (EVs). The desired system enables EV owners to exchange surplus electricity with other EV owners in their location. The system being proposed utilizes blockchain technology to guarantee secure and transparent transactions. Additionally, it incorporates a smart contract to automate the trading and charging process. The system utilizes a dynamic pricing mechanism that adjusts in real-time to reflect the current electricity prices. This feature is designed to encourage electric vehicle owners to engage in energy stabilization during maximum usage hours. The Optimistic results shows that the described system has the efficacy on minimising the cost of vehicle charging and to decrease peak demand on the grid. Additionally, the system encourages the utilization of renewable energy sources. © 2023 IEEE.

Solar energy is a clean and simple method of electricity generation. This electricity is utilized for various purposes, ranging from modest electrical gadgets and cars to major enterprises, satellites, and space exploration. The title of this project, "Solar tracking system with light-dependent resistors and a stepper motor controlled by a microcontroller" alludes to the project’s purpose, which is to harvest as much solar energy as possible from a solar panel throughout the day using a specific Sun tracking mechanism. To do this, a mechanism was developed that tracks the sun’s position and rotates the solar panel correspondingly so that it receives maximum sunlight at all times of the day. This is accomplished by mounting a stepper motor and a couple of light-dependent resistors (LDRs) on the solar panel, which adjusts its orientation based on the location of the sun. This project has three primary components: the solar panel, the stepper motor, and the LDRs. Microcontroller, sensor, and stepper motor. For this aim, an Arduino UNO microcontroller has been utilized. It accepts an output signal from a sensor as input, processes it, and controls stepper motors based on the supplied program. A stepper motor is attached to the shaft on which a panel is positioned to raise and lower the panel. Since maximal solar rays always strike the surface of the solar panel module, it is possible to obtain maximum power output, increasing its total efficiency as compared to the static panel.

The trajectory tracking control problem for an underactuated surface vehicle is addressed in this paper based on the cascaded design. The tracking error dynamics are established with the reference trajectories generated by a virtual target vehicle and converted into a novel cascaded structure, then the primitive control problem can be decomposed into the stabilization problems for the two interconnected systems, which is different from the Lyapunov based recursive design that relies heavily on constructing the Lyapunov function for the overall system. Moreover, the persistent of excitation condition on the yaw angle can be removed in the resulted cascaded structure. Sliding mode control method is utilized to stabilize the states under model uncertainties for the perturbing system. Then, the satisfaction of the sufficient conditions for the the stability of the cascaded system is verified. Finally, the simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed robust cascaded control. © 2021 IEEE

In this paper, The IEEE thermal ageing model is utilized to build an enhanced Transformer Life Expectancy (TLE) model. The enhanced model is developed relying on the current transformer Health Index (HI) in addition to the loading conditions. A direct correlation between the IEEE and the (HI) ageing factors is identified and projected. The model is capable of integrating factors affecting transformers. Transformer faults and maintenance are amongst factors taken into consideration to improve the model. The reliability calculations are applied for assessing the transformers as well as the distribution network. The calculated transformer (HI) score with the aid of historical failure rate are utilized during the calculation of the distribution network reliability. An application on a simple network connectivity including transformers and loads is demonstrated to verify the strategy effectiveness. The results of this research are the basis for an enhancement for the smart grids performance estimation. © 2021 THE AUTHORS
