This paper aims at applying optimal control principles to investigate optimal vaccination strategies in different phases of a pandemic. Background of the study is that many countries have started their vaccination procedures against the COVID-19 disease in the beginning of 2021, but supply shortages for the vaccines prevented that everyone could be vaccinated immediately. At the beginning of 2022, in contrast, the vaccine supply was ample, but the effectiveness of different existing vaccines to avoid infection by new virus variants was in doubt, as well as the acceptance of booster doses decreased over time. To account for these effects, two formulations of optimization tasks based on different epidemic models are proposed in this paper. The solution of these tasks determines optimal distribution strategies for available vaccines, and optimized vaccination schemes to reduce the need of booster doses for later phase. Intelligent Proximate Analysis of Coal Based on Near-Infrared Spectroscopy and Multioutput Deep Learning

Proximate analysis of coal indicates the moisture, ash, volatile content, and calorific value, which has been widely utilized as the basis for coal characterization. It involves heating the coal under various conditions until a constant weight is obtained. Although it is a relatively simple process that does not require expensive analytical equipment, determining these characteristics is time consuming. An alternative way for proximate analysis is spectral analysis in combination with various machine learning methods. However, most previous works analyze individual characteristics and fail to explore the relationship among them. In this study, we propose a method for proximate analysis based on near-infrared spectroscopy and a multioutput attention Unet (MOA-Unet), which can predict multiple characteristics simultaneously. First, an attention-based Unet is designed as the shared feature extraction subnetwork, including an encoder, a decoder, convolutional block attention modules, and multiscale feature fusion modules, which can improve the representation power of the U-shape network through aggregating features of shallower layers and concatenating features of deeper layers. Second, four individual subnetworks with fully connected layers, designed for four outputs, are utilized for regressing those four characteristics. We employ the gradient normalization algorithm to alleviate the gradient magnitude masking effect caused by training imbalance among different tasks. The proposedMOA-Unet is compared with classical chemometric methods on 670 coal samples from on-site *** experimental results demonstrate that the proposedmodel achieves state-of-the-art performance with correlation coefficients of 0.9015, 0.9538, 0.8986, and 0.8884, corresponding to moisture, ash, volatile content, and calorific value, respectively. Accurate forecasting in photovoltaic energy is one of the most essential integrated and influential events for managing the system of new and renewable energy sources in the power grid. The paper presents a practical approach using neural networks to predict photovoltaic energy generation. Applying neural networks in PV power generation forecasting is challenging due to unpredictable environmental changes such as solar radiation, temperature, humidity, wind speed, etc. Neural network methods are distinguished by achieving high performance in prediction compared to traditional mathematical models that have difficulties dealing with complex nonlinear relationships, resulting in substandard prediction. The proposed neural network-based forecasting model offers an effective way to improve the precision of estimating PV generation. It has a great deal of promise to enhance the integration and dependability of solar energy in the current electricity landscape because of its capacity to capture complex linkages in the data and adapt to changing circumstances. © 2023 IEEE.

Transient angle stability of inverters equipped with the robust droop controller is investigated in this *** first,the conditions on the control references to guarantee the existence of a feasible post-disturbance operating point are ***,the post-disturbance equilibrium points are found and their stability properties are ***,the attraction regions of the stable equilibrium points are accurately depicted by calculating the stable and unstable manifolds of the surrounding unstable equilibrium points,which presents an explanation to system transient ***,the transient control considerations are provided to help the inverter ridethrough the disturbance and maintain its stability *** is shown that the transient angle stability is not a serious problem for droop controlled inverters with proper control settings.

Leveraging a number of inner capacitors/inductors, hybrid-clamped multilevel converters (MLCs) normally face great challenges among good performance (proper charge/discharge of these devices), high efficiency (maintaining low losses) and high power density (compact profile). On the other hand, these multiple-device energy-processing requirements have been addressed well in some promising multi-port converters (MPCs), and, therefore, inspire us to implement well-developed compact MPCs to facilitate the voltage/current level generation process in hybrid-clamped MLCs. Though recently, some researchers started to integrate active cells into hybrid-clamped MLCs and improve capacitor voltage control and generate extra output levels, the systematic synthesis method is still unclear and rarely discussed in the literature. To address this gap, we propose a systematic synthesis method for those hybrid clamped MLCs that can benefit from embedding well-developed MPCs. The approach can be applied for both voltage-source and current-source hybrid-clamped MLCs, covering emerging MLCs. In particular, we also derived and verified a new mixed hybrid MLC family through an emerging current-fed dual-input isolated multi-port converter. This topology features both current-source and voltage-source benefits and is ideal for future renewable generation integration. © 2023 IEEE.

Federated learning(FedL)is a machine learning(ML)technique utilized to train deep neural networks(DeepNNs)in a distributed way without the need to share data among the federated training *** was proposed for edge computing and Internet of things(IoT)tasks in which a centralized server was responsible for coordinating and governing the training *** remove the design limitation implied by the centralized entity,this work proposes two different solutions to decentralize existing FedL algorithms,enabling the application of FedL on networks with arbitrary communication topologies,and thus extending the domain of application of FedL to more complex scenarios and new *** the two proposed algorithms,one,called FedLCon,is developed based on results from discrete-time weighted average consensus theory and is able to reconstruct the performances of the standard centralized FedL solutions,as also shown by the reported validation tests.
