This paper presents practical analog coding schemes for bandwidth expansion, specifically for 1:2 and 1:3 systems, based on successive quantization of the input samples and the corresponding residual errors. The proposed encoder is very simple, and can be optimized by properly choosing the required quantizers and by performing intelligent energy allocation. We study different decoding strategies, ranging from an involved optimal scheme to very simple straightforward direct decoding, and assess the trade-off between performance and decoding complexity. Insights into optimal energy allocation and quantization strategies are provided. By properly optimizing the system parameters, it is possible to obtain very reasonable performance, even for the straightforward decoding technique, which achieves a performance that, contrary to many other analog coding/decoding schemes, does not experience significant degradation relative to the theoretical limit when the signal to noise ratio increases. © 2025 IEEE.

This study presents a novel e-deliberation model that incorporates a rewarding mechanism to enhance citizen engagement and improve the quality of deliberative processes. The model simulates interactions between citizens and proposals, focusing on how costs and rewards influence citizen behavior. Through rigorous mathematical formulation and simulation, we demonstrate that the implementation of a rewarding mechanism significantly increases the number of comments posted by citizens. By adjusting parameters to provide substantial rewards for valuable contributions and reducing participation costs, we observed enhanced engagement and more dynamic interactions. The findings suggest that a well-calibrated reward structure can sustain long-term participation and prevent disengagement. Future work will involve empirical validation of the model using real-world data collected an e-deliberation system (PODS), which will further refine and validate the model's applicability in practical e-deliberation scenarios. © 2024 Proceedings of the International Conferences on Applied Computing and WWW/Internet 2024. A 500 kHz Wide Output LLC-T Resonant Converter With Narrow Frequency Range, Reduced Circulating Energy, and Low Voltage Stress

The resonant converters are promising topologies for the electric vehicle charging applications due to the soft switching feature. However, the conventional LLC resonant converter regulates the wide output voltage through a wide frequency range, which leads to low efficiency with large circulating energy and the difficulty of the resonant tank optimization. This article proposes a novel LLC-T resonant converter, which parallels an auxiliary transformer with the LC resonant tank for the wide output applications. The proposed LLC-T resonant converter narrows the frequency range with less circulating energy, lower voltage stress on the resonant capacitor, and smaller flux linkage in the resonant inductor compared to the conventional LLC resonant converter. Meanwhile, the zero-voltage switching turn-on is maintained throughout the wide output voltage range and load range. Furthermore, a precise time-domain based analysis and the design methodology are proposed. A 500-kHz, 1.35 kW, 400 V input 250 V-450 V output prototype is built to verify the concepts of the proposed topology and demonstrates a 97.82% peak efficiency. © 1986-2012 IEEE.

We report on studying diamagnetic levitation and rigid body resonances of millimeter- to centimeter-scale trapped graphite mechanical resonators, by combining theoretical analysis with experimental demonstrations. Harnessing the strong diamagnetic susceptibility of pyrolytic graphite, we demonstrate stable levitation of square graphite thin plates with varying dimensions and masses above permanent magnets, without the need of active control. The resonance motions are excited by dielectric gradient forces and detected via an ultrasensitive optical interferometry system at room temperature. We observe rigid body resonance modes with frequencies between 25 Hz and 50 Hz and with their quality (Q) factors from 30 to 70. The Q factors are primarily constrained by air damping and eddy current damping. This work represents an initial step toward developing high-stability, anchor-less levitating resonant systems with large masses, paving the way for high-performance resonant sensors with minimal energy dissipation and exceptional thermal and mechanical isolation with very small power consumption. © 2025 IEEE.

FDI (False Data Injection) attacks are critical to address as they can compromise the integrity and reliability of data in cyber-physical systems, leading to potentially severe consequences in sectors such as power systems. The feasibility of FDI attacks has been extensively studied from various perspectives, including access to measurements and sensors, knowledge of the system, and design considerations using residual-based detection methods. Most research has focused on DC-based FDI attacks;however, designing AC FDI attacks involves solving a nonlinear optimization problem, presenting additional challenges in assessing their feasibility. Specifically, it is often unclear whether the infeasibility of some designed AC FDI attacks is due to the nonconvexity and nonlinearity inherent to AC power flows or if it stems from inherent infeasibility in specific cases, with local solvers returning infeasibility. This paper addresses this issue by leveraging the principle that if a convexified AC FDI attack design problem is infeasible, the attack design itself is infeasible, irrespective of nonlinear solution challenges. We propose an AC FDI attack design based on convexified power flow equations and assess the feasibility of the proposed attack by examining the extent of the attackable region. This approach utilizes a Quadratic Convex (QC) relaxation technique to convexify AC power flows. To evaluate the proposed method, we implement it on the IEEE 118-bus test system and assess the feasibility of an AC FDI attack across various attack zones. © 2025 IEEE.

Despite advancements in human motion generation models, their performance drops in infant motion generation due to limited data available and lack of 3D skeleton ground truth. To address this, we introduce the infant action generation and classification (InfAGenC) pipeline, which combines a transformer-based variational autoencoder (VAE) with a spatial-temporal graph convolutional network (STGCN) to create synthetic infant action samples. By iterative refinement of the generative model with diverse and accurate data, we improve the realism of synthetic data, leading to more precise infant action recognition models. Our results show significant improvements in action recognition performance on real-world data, demonstrating that synthetic data can enhance small training datasets and advance infant action recognition. The use of solar photovoltaic (PV) technology has significantly increased as a solution for providing electricity to off-grid or remote users, as well as for reducing energy costs for grid-connected users. The main concern, however, is the impact of fluctuating solar radiation on power quality. It has been demonstrated that low solar radiation can lead to total harmonic distortion (THD) levels as high as 130%. Additionally, harmonics are generated by electronic switching devices such as converters and inverters, as well as by non-linear loads. Passive filters have proven to be the most commonly used solution to mitigate harmonics, owing to their cost-effectiveness and high performance. Components such as inductors (L), capacitors (C) and/or damping resistors (R) are used to design passive filters. The aim of this paper is to present a review/survey on recent studies that focused on the use or design of passive filters to minimize harmonics in standalone and grid-connected solar PV systems. It has been found that using either an LC or LLCL filter significantly enhances the power quality of off-grid solar PV systems. However, an LC filter without damping resistance has been found to be less effective for a grid-connected solar PV system. Additionally, it has been found that most studies have overlooked the impedance of the grid networks and failed to ensure compliance with IEEE's allowable THD limits for both voltage and current. © 2025 IEEE.

Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) codes under iterative decoding have shown remarkable error correction capabilities, with moderate complexity requirements. Initially, in this paper a check based on a part of the parity check matrix (core part check) is presented. The proposed check is amenable for hardware implementation and allows the termination of the decoding procedure at a sub-iteration level, i.e., within an iteration. In this way the number of clock cycles required reduced by 150 for the semi-parallel architecture and for 5G NR codes. Simultaneously the Block Error Rate (BLER) remains the same while hardware becomes simpler. In addition, this paper introduces a novel scheduling scheme combined with the core part check and a syndrome-select logic. Experimental results are offered, assuming the parallel architecture, which show that the proposed rescheduling reduces the average number of required clock cycles per decoded word. Simultaneously improves the BLER utilizing exactly the same hardware. Specifically, targeting 5G NR LDPC codes, gains of 35% are achieved, for both the OMS and NMS algorithms. Furthermore, an innovative approach for the merge network of the reconfigurable barrel shifter is proposed. Finally, an ASIC implementation for semi-parallel architecture and the energy consumption gained with the proposed algorithm are presented. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

In this paper, the problem of Channel State Information (CSI) compression is considered. More specifically, we consider a wireless communication environment in which the CSI observed at a User Equipment (UE) is to be fed-back to the Base Station (BS) through a noiseless but rate-limited channel. The system has access to a set of historical CSI realizations that can be used to train a deep neural network (DNN) to accomplish efficient CSI compression. We consider the problem of efficiently designing such a deep compressor. In particular, we propose to exploit the inherent heterogeneity of the CSI observations to cluster users. For each cluster, we train a personalized model that can attain efficient compression with a small set of parameters. Another advantage of this approach is that a small network can be trained at the UE to predict which of the personalized models will provide the lowest distortion from the encoded features. This implies that the UE can choose which compressor to utilize independently, without needing further synchronization with the BS. Numerical simulations are provided using the ultra-dense indoor Massive Multiple Input Multiple Output (maMIMO) dataset. The performance of the proposed approach is investigated for various forms of heterogeneity and rates of the UE-to-BS channel. © 2024 IEEE.

Ultradense low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite-terrestrial network (ULSN) has evolved as a new paradigm to provide ubiquitous and high-capacity communications in next generation wireless networks. However, the direct LEO satellite broadband connectivity faces significant challenges in urban environments due to the masking effect, which limits the reliability and availability of communication links in ULSNs. To address this, reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) is emerging as a promising solution in ULSNs. In this article, we investigate RIS-aided downlink data transmission in urban environments of multiusers in ULSNs. We set up a mixed-integer programming (MIP) model for maximizing the sum rate of terrestrial users in ULSNs. To solve the complex MIP problem, we propose a two-phase joint optimization algorithm with a deep learning phase and an alternative optimization (AO) phase. In the deep learning phase, a deep neural network (DNN) algorithm is employed to obtain the optimal user association matrix based on the positions of terrestrial users and LEO satellites. Then in the AO phase, successive convex approximation is utilized to transform the nonconvex subproblems of beamforming and RIS phase design into convex formulations and iteratively solve them. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm outperforms other baseline algorithms. © 2014 IEEE.
