Multi-core synthesis and maximum satisfiability applied to optimal sizing of solar photovoltaic systems

Annual global energy consumption growth is around 1.3% with forecasts until 2040. Photovoltaic systems became a suitable alternative to nuclear and fossil energy generation. In order to support this technology’s dissemination, we develop and evaluate an automated formal synthesis approach that assists in decision-making for off-grid systems. Our proposed approach, called PVz, is based on a variant of the counterexample-guided inductive synthesis;it has a multi-core feature, which can obtain the optimal sizing of photovoltaic systems focusing on Life Cycle Cost analysis. Given the electrical needs of a home, we seek a set of electrical equipment with the best possible combination of devices that meet the specified requirements. We calculate all costs related to maintenance over 20 years. The results presented are based on seven case studies;some of them are real ones from the Amazon region in Brazil. The same case studies were solved by a commercial optimization tool. Our technique and the commercial tool results were validated with popular simulation software to perform a fair comparison. Furthermore, we analyze some topics such as run-time, optimal solution, and configuration of the resulting systems. Cholera is a highly contagious and lethal waterborne disease induced by an infection with Vibrio cholerae (V. cholerae) secreting cholera toxin (CTx). Cholera toxin subunit B (CTxB) from the CTx specifically binds with monosialo-tetra-hexosyl-ganglioside (GM1) found on the exterior cell membrane of an enterocyte. Owing to the pathological process of CTx, a biomimetic electrochemical biosensor (CCB) was developed by applying GM1-expressing Caco-2 cell membrane (CCM) on the electrode surface of the biosensor for CTx detection. Briefly, the electrode surface was functionalized with CCM using the vesicle fusion method. The specific binding between GM1 and CTxB on the electrode surface was verified using confocal laser scanning microscopy and atomic force microscopy. The CTxB detection performances of the CCB, including sensitivity, selectivity, and long-term stability, were determined using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Based on the results, the CCB had an excellent limit of detection of ~11.46 nM and a detection range spanning 100 ng/mL - 1 mg/mL. Further, the CCB had high selectivity for the CTxB compared to different interfering molecules, which are abundant constituents of intestinal fluid and fecal matter in the human body. The long-term stability of the CCBs was also verified for 3 weeks using EIS. Overall, the CCB was found to have an excellent potential for application to point-of-care and cost-effective testing for CTxB detection in developing countries. © 2022, The Authors. Motivated by current sharing in power networks, we consider a class of output consensus (also called agreement) problems for nonlinear systems, where the consensus value is determined by external disturbances, e.g., power demand. This output consensus problem is solved by a simple distributed output feedback controller if a system is either Krasovskii or shifted passive, which is the only essential requirement. Increasing integration of renewable generation poses significant challenges to ensure robustness guarantees in real-time energy system decision-making. This work aims to develop a robust optimal transmission switching (OTS) framework that can effectively relieve grid congestion and mitigate renewable curtailment. We formulate a two-stage distributionally robust chance-constrained (DRCC) problem that assures limited constraint violations for any uncertainty distribution within an ambiguity set. Here, the second-stage recourse variables are represented as linear functions of uncertainty, yielding an equivalent reformulation involving linear constraints only. We utilize moment-based (mean-mean absolute deviation) and distance-based (∞-Wasserstein distance) ambiguity sets that lead to scalable mixed-integer linear program (MILP) formulations. Numerical experiments on the IEEE 14-bus and 118-bus systems have demonstrated the performance improvements of the proposed DRCC-OTS approaches in terms of guaranteed constraint violations and reduced renewable curtailment. In particular, the computational efficiency of the moment-based MILP approach, which is scenario-free with fixed problem dimensions, has been confirmed, making it suitable for real-time grid operations. In this paper, we propose two novel algorithms for histogram specification and quantile transformation of data without local information. These are core techniques that can serve as building blocks for applications that require specifying the sample distribution of a given set of data. Histogram specification is best known for its image enhancement applications, whereas quantile transformation is typically employed in data preprocessing for data normalization. In signal processing, methods often require temporal or spatial information;in data preprocessing, methods work by interpolation or by approximation, drawing from results in computational statistics, and have a trade-off between speed and quality. It is nontrivial to accommodate for cases that do not have local information (e.g., tabular data) while also providing a fast, exact solution. For that, we take up a concept in image processing called group mapping law and propose an extension. The proposed extension allows us to formulate a convex functional where we look for the best approximation between the output unique values and the reference histogram. Then, we apply the ordered assignment solution, a result in optimal transport, to reconstruct the output from the optimal unique values. Two sets of results show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms when compared to traditional and state-of-the-art methods. The proposed algorithms are fast, exact, and least p-norm optimal. Further, we define the algorithms as generic data processing methods. Thus, contributions from this paper can be easily incorporated in applications spanning many disciplines, especially in applied data science. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The development of game technology has opened up new possibilities in learning methods through educational games. However, in Indonesia, the application of this concept is lacking. One lesson that can benefit from educational games is Indonesian History in class X, with a focus on history in the pre-literacy period. This study aims to create a puzzle-Adventure type of digital game that can help educate students about the pre-literacy period, developed with Unity, and uses WebGL as a target device while referring to Indonesia's revised 2013 national curriculum. The result of this research is the creation of a digital game that can be played on average of 254.36 seconds, with potential for educational use. A survey result shows that many of the ancient objects and some of the ages are well-recognized. However, the survey also shows many of the gameplay aspects, such as UI, gameplay features, and adventure elements, need improvements. © 2020 IEEE.

Non-invasive imaging plays a crucial role in diagnosing and studying eye diseases. However, existing photoacoustic ophthalmoscopy (PAOM) techniques in mice have limitations due to handling restrictions, suboptimal optical properties, limited availability of light sources and permissible light fluence at the retina. This study introduces an innovative approach that utilizes Rose Bengal, a contrast agent, to enhance PAOM contrast. This enables visualization of deeper structures like the choroidal microvasculature and sclera in the mouse eye using visible light. The integration of near-infrared-II optical coherence tomography (NIR-II OCT) provides additional tissue contrast and insights into potential NIR-II PAOM capabilities. To optimize imaging, we developed a cost-effective 3D printable mouse eye phantom and a fully 3D printable tip/tilt mouse platform. This solution elevates PAOM to a user-friendly technology, which can be used to address pressing research questions concerning several ocular diseases such as myopia, glaucoma and/or age-related macular degeneration in the future. © 2023, CC BY.
