RP-SWSGD: Design of sliding window stochastic gradient descent method with user’s ratings pattern for recommender systems

To offer relevant and useful recommendations, the crucial role of recommender systems in e-commerce industry is to predict the users’ concern for various items by estimating items’ attributes and users’ preferences. The reliability of a recommender system is usually assessed through accuracy and speed of relevant recommendations for a variety of items. The matrix factorization-based stochastic gradient descent (SGD) methods proposed by researchers lack memory needed to capture the ratings history hidden in the previous iterations. Recently, sliding window-based SGD strategies designed for Recommender systems and Hammerstein nonlinear systems gained attention due to the improved performance in terms of convergence speed and estimated accuracy. The memory impact with regard to the historical information enhances the performance of sliding window-based SGD techniques. However, sliding window-based methods are deficient in capturing the ratings history based on the users’ rating patterns. Hence utilizing the same window length for the set of observed ratings rated by users. Therefore, we propose an improved sliding window-based SGD strategy to acquire historical information of the ratings with respect to a user’s rating patterns for efficient matrix factorization of recommender systems. The proposed strategy performs significantly by accomplishing fast convergence speed and accuracy for window sizes greater than 1. The accuracy of the suggested technique is verified for two benchmark datasets such as ML-100 K and Film-Trust. However, the authenticity of the proposed method as compared to the standard counterpart (window size = 1) is confirmed through Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) and Mean Absolute Error (MAE). The average improvements achieved by the proposed strategy in terms of RMSE and MAE over the baseline for ML-100 K dataset are 0.726% and 2.245% respectively. Colored Petri nets (CPNs) provide descriptions of the concurrent behaviors for software and hardware. Model checking based on CPNs is an effective method to simulate and verify the concurrent behavior in system design. However, the model-checking method traverses the full state space, which suffers from the state-space explosion problem. A reduced state-space generation method related to the property of concurrent systems is proposed. Specifically, we extend CPNs to define a property-related model (CPN-PR) and give a property-related analysis method whose results can be used to generate the CPN-PR model. A reduced state-space generation method is developed based on enabled binding element filtering rules. The stutter trace equivalence between the state spaces of CPN and CPN-PR has been proven by showing that the reduced state space may not change the model-checking result. A comparison experiment is conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. © 1982-2012 IEEE.

This paper presents human pose estimation using millimeter-wave (mmWave) radar technology capable of penetrating obstacles. Operating within the frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) at 60 - 64 GHz, our radar system generates signals conducive to accurate human pose representation. Our data processing framework focuses on producing point cloud data, effectively capturing each human movement. Results are visualized through a 2D graph, with the z-axis representing time. Experimental data, collected from various activities conducted behind different walls, underwent thorough analysis, comparing point cloud positions with actual human postures. The outcomes affirm the effectiveness of mmWave radar systems, positioned behind obstacles, in accurately extracting human postures. © 2024 IEEE.

Enhanced U-Net and PSO-Optimized ANFIS for Classifying Fish Diseases in Underwater Images

Fish diseases are among the major limiting factors to increase global aquaculture production. They lead to increased fish mortality, low breeding and growth rates, and low meat quality. The success of aquaculture is heavily dependent on the timely identification of disease. Therefore, we propose a fuzzy U-Net model to automatically identify fish disease from underwater images. U-Net is enhanced with multi-head channel and spatial attention and used to segment infected fish regions from fish disease images. Color pixel intensity features are then extracted from the localized regions, a form of guided feature extraction. Fuzzy C-means clustering is then used to find the cluster centroids and data distribution within the clusters, for the design of fuzzy membership functions. Moreover, the number of clusters are determined by silhouette score. Adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) is then trained, tested, and cross-validated for fish disease identification. The model parameters are optimized using particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm and compared with gradient-based methods. For image segmentation, the enhanced U-Net achieved a mean intersection over union (IoU) of 86.29%, mean pixel accuracy of 90.94%, mean precision of 93.58%, and mean recall value of 89.94% on 42 test images. Subsequently, ANFIS with PSO achieved overall superior performance on fish disease identification over gradient-based methods, with accuracy of 99.31%, precision of 99.00%, recall of 99.00%, and F1-score of 99.00%. The high-performance results of the optimized ANFIS confirm the robustness and efficacy of the proposed method to automatically identify fish diseases in aquaculture. © The Author(s) under exclusive licence to Taiwan Fuzzy Systems Association 2024.

This paper concerns ultimately bounded output-feedback control problems for networked systems with unknown nonlinear dynamics. Sensor-to-observer signal transmission is facilitated over networks that has communication *** transmissions are carried out over an unreliable communication channel. In order to enhance the utilization rate of measurement data, a buffer-aided strategy is novelly employed to store historical measurements when communication networks are inaccessible. Using the neural network technique, a novel observer-based controller is introduced to address effects of signal transmission behaviors and unknown nonlinear *** the application of stochastic analysis and Lyapunov stability, a joint framework is constructed for analyzing resultant system performance under the introduced controller. Subsequently, existence conditions for the desired output-feedback controller are delineated. The required parameters for the observerbased controller are then determined by resolving some specific matrix inequalities. Finally, a simulation example is showcased to confirm method efficacy.

Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya-type spin-spin interaction from mixed-parity superconductivity

Interacting impurity spins adsorbed on surfaces have been suggested as basic components for applications in quantum computation and spintronics. Such spins usually prefer a parallel or antiparallel configuration, but weakly noncollinear alignments are possible due to the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) that arises in the presence of relativistic spin-orbit coupling. Here, we show that an effective Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya-type interaction (DMTI) can emerge purely from superconducting correlations without any spin-orbit interaction. We give an analytical proof and provide a numerical study which shows that DMTI arises in mixed-parity superconductors solely from the superconducting pairing. Moreover, we show that the same effect can be realized in Josephson junctions between s-wave and p-wave superconductors, where a phase bias toggles the DMTI entirely on and off. These results enable a way to engineer spin textures using superconducting order.
