This paper presents a non-intrusive load identification and monitoring system using the aggregated power consumption measurement from residential homes. The main feature of the proposed system is to identify all the connected loads inside the house without individual sensors, smart meters, or appliance detection devices. Different neural network-based algorithms are implemented and compared on the real-time aggregated data of power consumption, and K-Nearest Neighbors is found as the best suitable algorithm for appliance detection. The Raspberry Pi-4 based hardware setup is used for a non-intrusive load monitoring (NILM) system. In addition, a mobile application is also developed for illustration of the results and control of home appliances. This article presents a quantitative research technique to show how the provision of disaggregated data to a user can lead to more responsible and improved electricity consumption. The research proposes a scalable and sustainable approach to load monitoring and effective power consumption. © 2024 IEEE.

In this study we propose and evaluate AtheroRisk, a standalone integrated computer software system for the analysis of carotid B-mode ultrasound (U/S) images and videos. Our goal was to provide a tool to help physicians stratify stroke risk. The presented system is based on outcomes from different research studies, as well as European guidelines for the evaluation and treatment of carotid artery disease. The goal is to enable reproducible analysis of atherosclerotic plaques in real time. AtheroRisk brings together analysis of U/S image and/or video of the carotid arteries facilitating anonymization, standardization, noise filtering and segmentation of plaques;followed by image and motion feature extraction to derive plaque-composition and stability. All the above steps are combined to determine the annual stroke risk rate and the 5-year stroke-free survival rate. The system is powered by an SQLite local database, in which the end user can save and manage data extracted from processing and analysis in an anonymized way. The first version of AtheroRisk was developed following an incremental software development process. The developed system was verified using 54 U/S videos (27 Asymptomatic, AS;27 Symptomatic, SY cases) while the clinician’s satisfaction and comments were collected through a questionnaire-based validation process. The results show that the integrated system proposed in this study can be successfully used for the automated image and video analysis of the CCA plaque in ultrasound videos. © The Author(s) 2025.

Multienergy loads in integrated energy sys-tems(IESs)exhibit strong volatility and randomness,and existing multitask sharing methods often encounter nega-tive migration and seesaw problems when addressing complexity and competition among *** line with these considerations,a short-term multienergy load joint prediction method based on seasonal-trend decomposition using LOESS(STL)and convolutional progressive lay-ered extraction(CPLE)is proposed,called ***,STL is applied to model regular and uncertain load information into interpretable trend,seasonal,and re-sidual ***,joint modeling is performed for the same type of components of multienergy loads.A one-dimensional convolutional neural network(1DCNN)is constructed to extract deeper feature *** approach works in concert with the progressive layered extraction sharing method,and convolutional shared and task-specific experts are developed to acquire common and distinctive representations of multienergy loads, re-spectively. Task-specific parameters are gradually sepa-rated through progressive routing. Finally, a subtask network is built to learn temporal dependencies using long short-term memory (LSTM). Simulation validation is performed on the IES dataset at the Tempe campus of Arizona State University, and the experiments show that the STL-CPLE method exhibits higher prediction accu-racy than do the other methods.

Drug-Drug Interaction (DDI) task plays a crucial role in clinical treatment and drug development. Recently, deep learning methods have been successfully applied for DDI prediction. However, training deep learning models always need large amount of data, while known DDIs are scarce. To address this challenge, a graph neural network-based DDI prediction model named PNESR-DDI is proposed, which compensates for the lack of DDIs by enriching drug representations. First, to obtain initial node representations that incorporate rich semantic information from the biomedical knowledge graph (KG), a link prediction pre-training method on external KG is proposed in the node embedding pre-training module. Then, considering the large scale of the KG, subgraph extraction for the target drug pairs is introduced to reduce noise and decrease computational complexity in the subgraph anchoring module. After that, the subgraph is updated, and node similarities are propagated in the subgraph reconstruction module. Based on the node similarity scores, the subgraph is pruned and reconstructed, which adjusts node representations to be more conducive to DDI prediction. Finally, the drug embeddings, subgraph representations, and drug fingerprint features are concatenated to predict DDIs. PNESRDDI is evaluated on two benchmark DDI datasets: DrugBank and TWOSIDES. Experiment results show that PNESR-DDI achieves better performance than baselines. Ablation results validate the effectiveness of the pre-training method and the adaptive subgraph reconstruction strategy. © 2024 IEEE.

Ultrasound focusing in three-dimensional(3 D)space is of crucial and enduring significance in a variety of biomedical and industrial *** ultrasound focusing based on active phase array or passive geometry of bulky size is unable to realize the 3 D arbitrary focusing with subwavelength *** metamaterial of complex deep-subwavelength microstructure has facilitated the advanced airborne-sound-focusing but is inevitably not applicable for underwater ultrasound,restricted by the law between the multi-modes coupling/thermal viscosity and the feature size of the ***,we aim to circumvent the restriction by increasing the feature size of the metamaterial while keeping the compact overall geometry,and realize the robust subwavelength ultrasound focusing with the sparse metalens of the wavelength-scale *** theoretically propose and demonstrate numerically and experimentally the broadband arbitrary ultrasound focusing in 3 D *** axial and off-axis ultrasound focusing with the subwavelength resolution(FWHM<0.58λ)are achieved by the spatially sparse and compact metalens within one-octave *** advantages of 3 D freewheeling focusing,subwavelength resolution,spatial sparsity,geometric simplicity,and broadband,the sparse metalens would offer more initiatives to advanced researches in ultrasound focusing and empower applications such as precise biomedical imaging and therapy,nondestructive evaluation,integrated and multiplexed ultrasound devices.

Tensor rank and other multipartite entanglement measures of graph states

Graph states play an important role in quantum information theory through their connection to measurement-based computing and error correction. Prior work revealed elegant connections between the graph structure of these states and their multipartite entanglement. We continue this line of investigation by identifying additional entanglement properties for certain types of graph states. From the perspective of tensor theory, we tighten both upper and lower bounds on the tensor rank of odd ring states (|R2n+1〉) to read 2n+1≤rank(|R2n+1〉)≤3×2n−1. Next we show that several multipartite extensions of bipartite entanglement measures are dichotomous for graph states based on the connectivity of the corresponding graph. Finally, we give a simple graph rule for computing the n-tangle τn.
