This paper proposes a 1D residual convolutional neural network (CNN) for classifying arrhythmias based on electrocardiogram (ECG) signals. The additional residual blocks and skip connections effectively alleviate the gradient problem in deep neural networks by providing a direct path for gradient propagation and enhancing the feature information propagation. In addition, the SMOTE-Tomek technique was demonstrated in this work to mitigate the effects of class imbalance caused by a large amount of data during model training and effectively increase the SNR of the training set. The robustness of the model is increased by adding the cosine annealing technique and L 2 regularization. The proposed model was evaluated with various performance metrics, resulting in an accuracy of 9 8. 7 4 %, sensitivity of 9 8. 3 5 %, specificity of 9 1. 8 6 %, precision of 9 7. 9 5 %, and F1 score of 9 8. 1 4 % on the MIT-BIH Arrhythmia Database. The result shows better performance for classifying previously unseen data for the proposed approach as compared to the state-of-the-art works. © 2025 IEEE.

Chaotic systems have long played a crucial role in cryptographic applications due to their inherent unpredictability and sensitivity to initial conditions. Building on this foundation, this paper introduces an Improved Composite Chaotic Map (ICCM), inspired by classical quadratic and cubic chaotic maps. The proposed ICCM is rigorously validated through Lyapunov exponents and bifurcation diagrams, demonstrating its enhanced dynamical complexity and suitability for secure applications. Designed to expand the chaotic range, ICCM incorporates an additional parameter that significantly enlarges the keyspace, thereby improving the robustness and adaptability of encryption methods. To demonstrate its practical utility, ICCM is integrated into a novel opto-digital encryption scheme aimed at enhancing sensitivity and ensuring superior encryption performance. The effectiveness of this scheme is evaluated using a comprehensive suite of tests, including sensitivity analysis, histogram analysis, the NIST statistical test suite ( 1515 passed), and key security metrics. A high mean square error (MSE) value ( > 104} ) indicates a significant difference between the original and encrypted images, while correlation coefficients ( Cr ≈ 0.0001 to 0.0028) and a low peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR 674 ) ensures resilience against brute-force attacks. Simulation results reveal that the ICCM-based encryption scheme achieves a Lyapunov exponent of 21.42 (compared to 19 in prior works) and withstands data loss up to 50%. These findings position ICCM as a robust defense against statistical, differential, and chosen-plaintext attacks. In conclusion, the proposed ICCM and its integration into the opto-digital encryption scheme advance the security of encryption systems, setting a new benchmark for chaos-based cryptography. The results underscore the model’s potential to address modern data security challenges and inspire further research in this critical field. © 2013 IEEE.

This paper presents an innovative method for safeguarding audio files. The proposed technique leverages an advanced primary key with a complex structure, offering a vast keyspace resistant to hacking. The private key includes details for segmenting the speech audio file and generating unique chaotic keys for encryption. These keys are extremely sensitive to minor changes in the primary key, flagging any slight alteration during decryption as a hacking attempt. The method is tested and implemented on various speech signals, with the results analyzed to highlight the main features and improvements. The findings demonstrate how the technique improves encryption and decryption by optimizing metrics such as MSE, PSNR, CC, and NSCR. Speed analysis verifies the method’s performance by maximizing the throughput of the speech cryptography process. The results are compared with existing approaches to show the superiority and enhancements provided. This method is straightforward to implement, as it does not require modifying the algorithm when altering the speech audio file or the private key, making it a versatile solution for various speech encryption needs. This research is highly relevant to network security, as it ensures the integrity and confidentiality of transmitted speech signals, preventing unauthorized access and improving overall communication security. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

This paper provides an overview of microgrid control strategies, examining differences between centralized and decentralized approaches, and focusing on classical hierarchical control schemes as well as the structure of three-layer microgrid control systems. It also explores Hardware-in-the-Loop modeling, a crucial approach for microgrid simulation, with particular emphasis on devices supporting microgrid modeling. The paper primarily focuses on the design and implementation requirements of an experimental setup for real-time testing of microgrid control algorithms. The setup incorporates Hardware-in-the-Loop device, a power amplifier, a power converter, a battery energy storage system, and a digital controller. When developing predictive models over a dataset, the model is globally optimized across the entire feature space to learn a decision boundary. However, when unobservable variables—which cannot be measured or estimated—interact with the observable variables, this can negatively impact the optimization applied to the decision boundary since the data samples introduced by unobservable variables may have little to no association with the applied global optimization. This, consequently, penalizes the entire decision boundary and model performance. This paper examines some of the detrimental effects of unobservable variables, particularly their role in creating new modes in the distribution of observable variables and reducing the separ ability of class distributions. Such challenges result in unrepresentative training data, complex skewedor warped decision boundaries, and decreased accuracy of model predictions, particularly for interpretable models like logistic regression and decision trees. Through two illustrative case examples, we highlight the need to address the challenges imposed by unobservable variables. We propose a strategy to mitigate these challenges by creating local regions with in the feature space through partitioning. This enables the optimization of local models with inthe regions to overcome the impact of un observ ability and complex decision boundaries indifferent feature space localities. Research into a more sophisticated partitioning strategy and where the partition should be relative to the sample of interest is left as future work. Through the analysis of the impact of un observability and the development of a partitioning method, we demonstrate the clear need for a partitioning strategy that integrates knowledge from multiple local models to estimate risk factors using information fusion. This study suggests a novel approach that combines steganography with innovative image and signal processing techniques to enhance the security and integrity of medical images. We employ octonions, which offer a rich and high-fidelity representation, to encode two medical images. Racah orthogonal polynomials (DORPs), which extract distinctive visual properties and are thus perfect for data concealment, are added to this method to improve it further. We created a verification method utilizing the SHA-256 hashing technique to guarantee data integrity. To identify any manipulation, this method computes the steganographic image's hash both before and after transmission. We used an FPGA-based technology to improve this process, which uses parallel processing to greatly speed up hash computations compared to conventional software techniques. Discrete wavelet decomposition (DWT), quaternion singular value decomposition (QSVD) of the cover picture, and the application of octonionic transforms to concealed images are the main components of our approach. Experimental results demonstrate high-fidelity image reconstruction, with PSNR values up to 40 dB, SSIM scores reaching 0.9900, and strong robustness against various attacks. In particular, the system achieves NC ≥ 0.98 even under geometric transformations such as rotation and scaling, thanks to an integrated geometric correction module based on the Arithmetic Optimization Algorithm (AOA). The FPGA implementation ensures low-latency integrity verification, making the framework suitable for embedded healthcare environments. The proposed solution shows strong potential for protecting sensitive diagnostic data in medical systems, combining mathematical rigor with hardware-level performance. © 2025

As industrial systems become more complex and interconnected, diagnosing faults accurately and in real time has become increasingly challenging. This paper explores how combining artificial intelligence with digital twin technology can address these challenges. We focus on developing hybrid Artificial intelligence models that leverage diverse data sources to enhance fault detection and diagnosis, enabling secure and distributed diagnostics. Digital twins, virtual models of physical systems, are shown to enhance predictive maintenance and decision-making by providing real-time system insights. What sets our work apart is the way we integrate these technologies to create scalable, adaptive, and context-aware diagnostic solutions. We demonstrate the potential of this approach across applications such as smart grids, manufacturing, and autonomous systems. Our goal is to provide researchers and practitioners with a practical and forward-looking framework for developing intelligent, reliable fault diagnosis systems in today’s data-rich industrial environments.

There are currently no effective take-home jaw motion tracking devices to monitor the symptoms in temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD). Existing methods consist of bulky lab equipment that lack a standard for TMD diagnosis. These devices are unable to provide critical data that occurs within a patient’s natural day-to-day life which can lead to inadequate management of TMD. This study presents the fabrication techniques explored to create a take-home wearable device capable of detecting jaw movements to aid in remote patient monitoring of TMD symptoms. The nightguard prototypes are 3D modeled using denture model STL files and printed in various dental and biomedical resins on a Form 3B+ stereolithography 3D printer by Formlabs. Embedded accelerometers are used to quantify jaw movements, and a CAD-modeled, 3D-printed denture model is used to simulate these movements. Extensive testing is conducted throughout the fabrication process to ensure accuracy and reliability. This proof-of-concept study aims to establish the feasibility of the device for future clinical trials, where AI integration for data analysis and further optimization of manufacturing methods will be explored to validate the device’s efficacy and user requirements. The potential impact of this device includes improved TMD management through continuous, at-home monitoring, leading to better patient outcomes. Future work will focus on refining the design and expanding the testing to a larger cohort to further validate the device’s performance and reliability. © 2025 SPIE.

Network intrusion detection based on feature fusion of attack dimension

Network traffic anomaly detection involves the rapid identification of intrusions within a network through the detection, analysis, and classification of network traffic data. The variety of cyberattacks encompasses diverse attack principles. Employing an indiscriminate feature selection strategy may lead to the neglect of key features highly correlated with specific attack types. This oversight could diminish the recognition rate for that category, thereby impacting the overall performance of the detection model. To address this issue, this paper proposes a network traffic anomaly detection model based on the fusion of attack-dimensional features. Firstly, construct binary classification datasets independently for each attack class and perform individual feature selection to extract positively correlated features for each class. The features are then fused by employing a combination methods. Subsequently, based on the fused sub-datasets, base classifiers are trained. Finally, an ensemble learning approach is introduced to integrate the predictions of individual classifiers, enhancing the robustness of the model. The proposed approach, validated on NSL-KDD and UNSW-NB15 benchmark datasets, outperforms the latest methods in the field by achieving a 2% and 7% increase in precision on weighted averages. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

We report on excellent frequency stability (Allan deviation, or ADEV) down to ~0.1ppb-level measured by operating an aluminum nitride on silicon (AlN/Si) dual-ring bulk acoustic wave (BAW) MEMS resonator in three schemes: self-sustained oscillator (SSO), phase-locked loop (PLL), and open loop without feedback. The dual-ring BAW resonator is operated in its radial-extensional (RE) mode, with resonance frequency f0 = 11.08MHz and quality factor Q ≈ 6000. The best measured ADEV specifications are σA = 3.76×10-9 at averaging time τ ≈ 0.4s in SSO scheme, σA = 1.69×10-10 at τ ≈ 0.3s in PLL scheme, and σA = 1.23×10-10 at τ ≈ 4.8s for open-loop operation. This is the best short-term frequency stability performance reported to date among AlN piezoelectric MEMS resonators, suggesting suitability for applications where ppb- or sub-ppb level frequency stability is desired, such as real-time sensing and precise timing on chip. © 2025 IEEE.
