Joint Access Selection and Computation Offloading in LEO Ubiquitous Edge Computing Networks: An Alternating DRL-Based Approach

With the increase in users' service diversity and demand for quality of experience (QoE), the utilization of low earth orbit (LEO) satellite networks for assisted or independent offloading of computation tasks has become a promising trend. However, due to the high mobility and uneven resource distribution of LEO satellites, it is difficult to meet the requirements of low delay and low overhead by using traditional optimization algorithms or common reinforcement learning (RL) algorithms. Therefore, in this paper, we consider a scenario in which terrestrial users offload delay-sensitive (DS) computation tasks to a LEO satellite network in order to study the joint access selection and computation offloading problem. First, we analyze the characteristics of the scenario and the computation tasks, and establish a generic mathematical model. Then, based on the block descent coordinate (BCD) principle, we propose a novel algorithm of alternating Dueling DQN (ADDQN) for the joint decision-making problem, where access selection and computation offloading are performed with corresponding independent agent respectively. Comprehensive simulations show that compared with other benchmark algorithms, the proposed method not only has better convergence, but also can maximize the number of successfully completed sub-tasks and the optimization objective value meanwhile reducing the unnecessary access handovers. © 2024 IEEE.

Increasing privacy and security concerns in intelligence-native 6G networks require quantum key distribution-secured federated learning (QKD-FL), in which data owners connected via quantum channels can train an FL global model collaboratively without exposing their local datasets. To facilitate QKD-FL, the architectural design and routing management framework are essential. However, effective implementation is still lacking. To this end, we propose a hierarchical architecture for QKD-FL systems in which QKD resources (i.e., wavelengths) and routing are jointly optimized for FL applications. In particular, we focus on adaptive QKD resource allocation and routing for FL workers to minimize the deployment cost of QKD nodes under various uncertainties, including security requirements. The experimental results show that the proposed architecture and the resource allocation and routing model can reduce the deployment cost by 7.72% compared to the CO-QBN algorithm.

Due to the different device selections, aging levels, and thermal dissipation performance, some converters may take additional thermal stress on switching devices than others in paralleled converter systems, which will reduce system reliability. To address this problem, this paper proposes a power-sharing strategy with adaptive thermal management. First, the temperature-based power loss model and electrical-thermal model are established. Based on that, a high-accuracy IGBT junction temperature estimate considering the power loss-temperature coupling can be achieved. Further, the thermal-sharing for all the switching devices in paralleled converters can be achieved with the proposed adaptive thermal management strategy. The proposed strategy can change the power-sharing ratio adaptively according to the system operation conditions, which will contribute to the system reliability enhancement. The effectiveness of the proposed strategy is verified through PLECS thermal simulation and joint real-time simulation with Dspace and RT-box.

Photoacoustic microscopy (PAM) is a novel implementation of photoacoustic imaging (PAI) for visualizing the 3D bio-structure, which is realized by raster scanning of the tissue. However, as three involved critical imaging parameters, imaging speed, lateral resolution, and penetration depth have mutual effect to one the other. The improvement of one parameter results in the degradation of other two parameters, which constrains the overall performance of the PAM system. Here, we propose to break these limitations by hardware and software co-design. Starting with low lateral resolution, low sampling rate AR-PAM imaging which possesses the deep penetration capability, we aim to enhance the lateral resolution and up sampling the images, so that high speed, super resolution, and deep penetration for the PAM system (HSD-PAM) can be achieved. Data-driven based algorithm is a promising approach to solve this issue, thereby a dedicated novel dual branch fusion network is proposed, which includes a high resolution branch and a high speed branch. Since the availability of switchable AR-OR-PAM imaging system, the corresponding low resolution, undersample AR-PAM and high resolution, full sampled OR-PAM image pairs are utilized for training the network. Extensive simulation and in vivo experiments have been conducted to validate the trained model, enhancement results have proved the proposed algorithm achieved the best perceptual and quantitative image quality. As a result, the imaging speed is increased 16× times and the imaging lateral resolution is improved 5× times, while the deep penetration merit of AR-PAM modality is still reserved. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.

A general topology capable of implementing integer and non-integer versions of filters with exponential form of their gain responses in the frequency domain, is introduced in this work. The derivation of the topology is performed by employing a curve-fitting method for approximating the gain response, in each case. The versatility of the presented scheme is confirmed through experimental results obtained using a Field Programmable Analog Array device. A practical design example is also provided, where a combination of the introduced stages is utilized for denoising an electrocardiogram signal.

Given a real dataset and a computation family, we wish to encode and store the dataset in a distributed system so that any computation from the family can be performed by accessing a small number of nodes. In this work, we focus on the families of linear computations where the coefficients are restricted to a finite set of real values. For two-valued computations, a recent work presented a scheme that gives good feasible points on the access-redundancy tradeoff. This scheme is based on binary covering codes having a certain closure property. In a follow-up work, this scheme was extended to all finite coefficient sets, using a new additive-combinatorics notion called coefficient complexity. In the present paper, we explore non-binary covering codes and develop schemes that outperform the state-of-the-art for some coefficient sets. We provide a more general coefficient complexity definition and show its applicability to the access- redundancy tradeoff.

Perfect Subset Privacy in Polynomial Computation via Reed-Muller Information Super-sets

Delegating large-scale computations to service providers is a common practice which raises privacy concerns. This paper studies information-theoretic privacy-preserving delegation of data to a service provider, who may further delegate the computation to auxiliary worker nodes, in order to compute a polynomial over that data at a later point in time. We study techniques which are compatible with robust management of distributed computation systems, an area known as coded computing. Privacy in coded computing, however, has traditionally addressed the problem of colluding workers, and assumed that the server that administrates the computation is trusted. This viewpoint of privacy does not accurately reflect real-world privacy concerns, since normally, the service provider as a whole (i.e., the administrator and the worker nodes) form one cohesive entity which itself poses a privacy risk. This paper aims to shift the focus of privacy in coded computing to safeguarding the privacy of the user against the service provider as a whole, instead of merely against colluding workers inside the service provider. To this end, we leverage the recently defined notion of perfect subset privacy, which guarantees zero information leakage from all subsets of the data up to a certain size. Using known techniques from Reed-Muller decoding, we provide a scheme which enables polynomial computation with perfect subset privacy in straggler-free systems. Furthermore, by studying information super-sets in Reed-Muller codes, which may be of independent interest, we extend the previous scheme to tolerate straggling worker nodes inside the service provider. This paper presents a study for optimizing a hot rolling mill. The paper is devoted to the study of ways to reduce the effect of shock loads of synchronous electric drives of the roughing mill group on the relative lengthening of the metal strip in the inter-stand gap of the rolling stands of the finishing mill group. The elasticity of the metal strip in the inter-stand gap of the rolling mill has a significant impact on the movement of intercoupled multi-motor electric drives of the finishing mill group. Another crucial route of exposure that influences the motion of the electric drives within the finishing mill group involves the electromagnetic connection between the drives in the roughing and finishing mill groups. The impact of the electromagnetically connected circuits is evident through the effect of shock loads from synchronous electric drives on the angular velocity of the direct current electric drives within the finishing mill group. The characteristics of the electromagnetic communication circuit are established by the power grid arrangement and equipment specifications. To assess the quality of work of electric drives of the finishing mill group, it is proposed to use the relative lengthening of the metal strip in the inter-stand gap, which is an important indirect indicator of the quality of rolling. The mathematical model of a hot rolling mill that takes into account both the elasticity of the metal strip that connects the DC electric drives of the finishing group, and the electromagnetic coupling circuit that takes into account the impact loads of synchronous electric drives of the roughing group on the example of the mill 1700 of ArcelorMittal Temirtau JSC was proposed in this paper.
