In the context of an increasingly severe cybersecurity landscape and the growing complexity of offensive and defen-sive techniques,Zero Trust Networks(ZTN)have emerged as a widely recognized *** Trust not only addresses the shortcomings of traditional perimeter security models but also consistently follows the fundamental principle of“never trust,always verify.”Initially proposed by John Cortez in 2010 and subsequently promoted by Google,the Zero Trust model has become a key approach to addressing the ever-growing security threats in complex network *** paper systematically compares the current mainstream cybersecurity models,thoroughly explores the advantages and limitations of the Zero Trust model,and provides an in-depth review of its components and key ***,it analyzes the latest research achievements in the application of Zero Trust technology across various fields,including network security,6G networks,the Internet of Things(IoT),and cloud computing,in the context of specific use *** paper also discusses the innovative contributions of the Zero Trust model in these fields,the challenges it faces,and proposes corresponding solutions and future research directions.

Massive GaN micro-LED array based underwater wireless optical communication

High-speed underwater wireless optical communication technology is a much-needed communication technology in current underwater applications, and micro-LED is a promising light source option. Considering the limitation of transmission distance due to the low optical power of a single micro-LED pixel, an underwater wireless optical communication system based on a novel massive GaN micro-LED array includes more than 5000 pixels fabricated via flip-chip technology is proposed, which can achieve 165-Mbps and 90-Mbps at 37.7 m and 73.5 m, respectively. Therefore, the feasibility of realizing a high data rate and long transmission distance in an underwater wireless optical communication system based on a novel massive micro-LED array is confirmed. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group under the terms of the Optica Open Access Publishing Agreement.

In this study we propose and evaluate AtheroRisk, a standalone integrated computer software system for the analysis of carotid B-mode ultrasound (U/S) images and videos. Our goal was to provide a tool to help physicians stratify stroke risk. The presented system is based on outcomes from different research studies, as well as European guidelines for the evaluation and treatment of carotid artery disease. The goal is to enable reproducible analysis of atherosclerotic plaques in real time. AtheroRisk brings together analysis of U/S image and/or video of the carotid arteries facilitating anonymization, standardization, noise filtering and segmentation of plaques;followed by image and motion feature extraction to derive plaque-composition and stability. All the above steps are combined to determine the annual stroke risk rate and the 5-year stroke-free survival rate. The system is powered by an SQLite local database, in which the end user can save and manage data extracted from processing and analysis in an anonymized way. The first version of AtheroRisk was developed following an incremental software development process. The developed system was verified using 54 U/S videos (27 Asymptomatic, AS;27 Symptomatic, SY cases) while the clinician’s satisfaction and comments were collected through a questionnaire-based validation process. The results show that the integrated system proposed in this study can be successfully used for the automated image and video analysis of the CCA plaque in ultrasound videos. © The Author(s) 2025.

Wireless Capsule Endoscopy (WCE) emerged as an innovative and patient-centric approach for non-invasive and painless examination of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. It serves as a pivotal tool in helping medical practitioners in the early detection of anomalies within the intricate domain of the human GI tract. The automated identification of aberrations assumes paramount significance, contributing not only to temporal efficiency but also to timely diagnosis. Within the realm of academic literature, a plethora of Artificial Intelligence (AI) methodologies have been proposed to effectuate the automatic classification, segmentation, and synthesis of anomalies inherent in WCE images. This scholarly endeavor undertakes a comprehensive and meticulous survey, elucidating the spectrum of anomaly classification, summarization, and detection techniques harnessed for computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD) in the context of WCE images. The survey begins by delineating the methodologies underpinning WCE image classification and video processing. Subsequently, an exhaustive evaluation of techniques for analyzing WCE images is furnished, accompanied by an in-depth exploration of pertinent surveys, in addition to a judicious assessment of their merits and demerits. Furthermore, this study undertakes a rigorous evaluation of prevailing datasets utilized to benchmark the efficacy of various WCE techniques. Database accessibility can be challenging for users without technical expertise, particularly when generating SQL queries to retrieve information. This study addresses this gap by developing an OpenAI-powered system designed to automate SQL command generation, enabling non-expert users to interact with databases using natural language. Implemented as a web application, the system was evaluated by expert users, assessing both performance in query accuracy and user satisfaction. Results indicate high usability and satisfaction scores, with the system effectively enhancing accessibility to database functions, thus providing a user-friendly solution for database management. © 2025 IEEE.

In multi-cell downlink vehicular visible light communication (VLC) systems, vehicles at a cell edge experience lower achievable data rates compared with those at a cell center, primarily due to the weaker channel gain and inter-cell interference, leading to unfairness among vehicles. In this paper, a cooperative transmission approach is proposed for a vehicular VLC system with optical intelligent reflecting surface (OIRS) to enhance the max-min fairness of the system by leveraging the additional OIRS-reflected channels and the interference-mitigating capabilities of cooperative transmission. To this end, the system model is established, followed by the formulation of a resource allocation problem aiming at enhancing max-min fairness, in which the minimum achievable data rate among vehicles is optimized. Then, an effective resource algorithm is proposed, transforming the original problem into an equivalent form and subsequently decomposing it into three subproblems, focusing on OIRS assignment, subchannel allocation, and power adjustment, respectively. By employing a block coordinate descent algorithm, the three subproblems are solved iteratively until convergence. In addition, simulation results confirm the improvement in max-min fairness brought by OIRS and the proposed cooperative transmission approach. Moreover, compared with various baselines, the proposed resource allocation algorithm significantly enhances in the max-min fairness for the vehicular VLC system, crucial for this application. © 2014 IEEE.

To improve the performance of the original backtracking search algorithm (BSA), this work combines BSA with a centralized population initialization and an elitism-based local escape operator and proposes a new, improved variant of BSA called CiBSA. BSA's performance is improved by centralized population initialization regarding search capability, convergence speed, and capacity to jump out of the local optimum. The suggested algorithm's elitism-based local escape operator method prevents BSA searching slowness and enhances convergence rates and local search efficiency. The performance of the proposed algorithm has been tested on a set of 54 test suites. An extensive comparison with other recent meta-heuristics algorithms (MA) demonstrates that both methodologies substantially assist BSA in boosting the quality of its solutions and speeding up the convergence rate. The proposed CiBSA is then applied to a real-world problem: image segmentation using Kapur's entropy function. The proposed CiBSA is successfully applied to the segmentation of COVID-19 CT images using Kapur's entropy for grey-scale images. Considering the performance matrices Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR), Structural Similarity Index (SSIM), Feature Similarity Index (FSIM), and Intersection over Union (IoU), the suggested CiBSA outperformed conventional MA algorithms. In COVID-19 CT image segmentation trials, CiBSA has superior segmentation capability and adaptability at varied threshold levels than other approaches. As a result, CiBSA has a lot of potential for enhancing COVID-19 diagnosis accuracy. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Metaverse, as a revolutionary technology that changes the way of human interaction, brings new challenges to content delivery services due to the extensive data transmission and personalized service requirements. To ensure a personalized user experiences while improving the utilization of heterogeneous network resources, a user-centric many-objective metaverse content delivery framework is proposed to optimize content delivery through user attention awareness. This framework addresses two key subproblems in metaverse content delivery by investigating user-centric many-objective cooperative content caching and deep reinforcement learning (DRL)-based request routing. The user-centric many-objective cooperative content caching is proposed to dynamically combine three basic preference prediction results to predict user preferences and control network resource allocation, which can simultaneously optimize prediction precision, delay, offloaded traffic, and load balancing. In DRL-based request routing, the reward function is designed to enable the optimization of multiple objectives. The multi-objective DRL routing algorithm is employed to continuously observe network states and make adaptive routing decisions in response to user requests. In the simulation, a movie dataset is employed to simulate user requests and support user attention awareness. The results show that the proposed content delivery framework outperforms existing basic prediction algorithms and other content delivery algorithms on four evaluation indicators. © 2013 IEEE.

This study focuses on enhancing the integration of the PEM fuel cell, DC/DC boost converter, and BLDC motor, which help to develop more efficient and dependable fuel cell vehicles. The development of renewable energy sources for power generation has received much attention due to the depletion of fossil fuel supplies worldwide and economic difficulties. Fuel cells are one of the most efficient and cleanest power generation methods. Polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cell is the preferred type of fuel cell for vehicles because of its high energy density, fast start-up, and lack of pollution. This paper aims to model and simulate a PEM fuel cell stack to power a Brushless DC (BLDC) motor for a fuel cell vehicle to reduce emissions in the transportation sectors. A boost converter is implemented to boost the output voltage of the PEM fuel cell stack to 100 V. The paper utilizes the trapezoidal commutation of the BLDC motor to drive the inverter. The trapezoidal commutation uses the six-switching technique to control the inverter's phase currents. The variation of fuel flow rate and drive cycle are included to observe the effect on the operation of the fuel cell stack. The paper presents the modeling and simulation of the PEM Fuel cell stack to improve power conversion, energy management, and vehicle control, helping to make fuel cell vehicles more viable for widespread adoption in the future. © 2025 IEEE.

The growing adoption of renewable energy primary plants has been seen globally. South Africa has seen a significant development in utility-scale photovoltaic (PV) farms in recent years due to the alleviated regulations stipulated in the latest Electricity Regulation Amendment Act. Connecting the PV plants to the power grid has also undergone a technical evolution by incorporating modern embedded computers known as Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs). The International Electrotechnical Committee (IEC) 61850 standard defines a suite of protocols used in modern power systems. This study compares the IEC 61850 Manufacturing Messaging Specification (MMS) with the well-known MODBUS protocol. The comparison is achieved by simulating a solar farm's Power Plant Controller (PPC). © 2025 IEEE.
