This paper presents a stochastic model for addressing a single-server service station offering both EV charging and battery swapping services, considering the realistic retrial-based queueing behavior of the waiting individuals. A computationally efficient method is proposed for determining the steady-state probability distribution of the charging network. The approach involves analyzing the governing differential-difference equations and employing a matrix method to derive the steady-state probability distribution. Further, straightforward formulae are derived for critical system performance indicators, considering both server and system characteristics. Numerical results are visualized in the form of different graphical representations to demonstrate the influence of various parameters on system performance. Finally, the paper concludes with significant findings and future research directions to apprise researchers, decision-makers, and system designers in optimizing combined charging/swapping infrastructure. © 2025 IEEE.

Emerging technologies in sixth generation (6G) of wireless communications, such as terahertz communication and ultra-massive multiple-input multiple-output, present promising prospects. Despite the high data rate potential of millimeter wave communications, millimeter wave (mmWave) communications in urban low altitude economy (LAE) environments are constrained by challenges such as signal attenuation and multipath interference. Specially, in urban environments, mmWave communication experiences significant attenuation due to buildings, owing to its short wavelength, which necessitates developing innovative approaches to improve the robustness of such communications in LAE networking. In this paper, we explore the use of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-carried intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) to support low altitude mmWave communication. Specifically, we consider a typical urban low altitude communication scenario where a UAV-carried IRS establishes a line-of-sight (LoS) channel between the mobile users and a source user (SU) despite the presence of obstacles. Subsequently, we formulate an optimization problem aimed at maximizing the transmission rates and minimizing the energy consumption of the UAV by jointly optimizing phase shifts of the IRS and UAV trajectory. Given the non-convex nature of the problem and its high dynamics, we propose a deep reinforcement learning-based approach incorporating neural episodic control, long short-term memory, and an IRS phase shift control method to enhance the stability and accelerate the convergence. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm effectively resolves the problem and surpasses other benchmark algorithms in various performances. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. HerbSimNet: Deep Learning -Based Classification of Indian Medicinal Plants with High Inter-Class Similarities

Medicinal plant species recognition is important across diverse sectors such as Ayurveda, agriculture, environment conservation and botanical research. Specific groups of plants in Indian medicinal plant ecosystem exhibit significant inter-class similarities due to varying abundance and ecological factors. To address the challenges involved in the process of classifying these species in this work a deep learning model Herb-SimNet is proposed. The Herb-SimNet analyzes similarity of plant species over other plant species using vision based deep learning and machine learning techniques. The proposed model works based on the combination of wavelet features and convolutional features extracted using three sequential convolution layers to extract the prominent features that distinguish variations among the inter class similarity plant species. To perform experiments, a dataset is created by capturing medicinal plant leaf images using box model in plain background and uniform lighting. A smart phone captured twelve Indian medicinal plant species comprising of about 1400+ samples that belongs different plant species but similar morphological structure is collected. Baseline experiments are carried out between Herb-SimNet and other state-of-the-art deep learning models for classification based on the proposed dataset. The outcomes demonstrate that Herb_SimNet provides clear interpretation one plant variety with others and achieves superior accuracy in prediction than that of state-of-the-art approaches. Furthermore, the model demonstrates better generalization towards the other inter-class similarity groups considered for testing. In conclusion, the proposed dataset and Herb-SimNet plays a a crucial role in advancement of research concerning Indian medicinal plant species classification resulting into enhancement of AI-based technology for biodiversity conservation and ethnobotanical studies.

We study the real-time remote tracking of a two-state Markov process powered by an energy harvesting source. The source dynamically decides whether to transmit over an unreliable channel based on the state of the system. This problem is formulated as a Markov decision process (MDP) to determine the optimal transmission policy that minimizes the average Version Innovation Age (VIA) as a key performance metric. We demonstrate that the optimal transmission policy is threshold-based, determined by the battery level, source state, and VIA value. We numerically validate the analytical structure of the optimal policy and compare its performance against two baseline policies under various system parameters, establishing the superior performance of our approach.

The deep learning models are computationally burdensome, and their accuracy depends on the number of labeled datasets used in training. The scarcity of the labeled dataset in industrial machine diagnosis is a significant concern as it is pretty impossible to collect data from faulty machines in industrial environments. To address this issue, in this paper, we presented a few-shot learning-based machine fault diagnosis model on a lightweight SqueezeNet architecture using generated texture images from audio sensor data. Subsets of two public audio datasets, MIMII and ToyADMOS, containing limited data- 10 images per class were used to validate the model. The experimental results demonstrate that the model has exhibited 89.6% and 98.3% accuracy for MIMII and ToyADMOS, respectively, with only ten labeled images of each fault class. As the model has only 73 thousand trainable parameters and requires only 300 KB of memory, it is expected to be deployable in a portal device for machine fault diagnosis.

Innovative mobile artificial intelligence-generated content (AIGC) can support the evolution and updating processes of virtual twins (VTs) in human digital twin (HDT) systems. With a reliable and efficient automatic data generation process, the requirement for a timely physical-to-virtual synchronization in HDT can be satisfied. While such an AIGC-enabled HDT system can facilitate modelling high fidelity VTs, generating content that represents the true states in the physical environment and providing timely customized services, it may suffer from a poor understanding of contexts, a lack of creativity, and various security and privacy concerns. In this paper, we propose a novel framework, which integrates federated learning (FL) and semantic communication (SemCom) to enhance performance in the AIGC-enabled HDT system while improving accuracy and convergence properties. First, we present a holistic architectural framework for the proposed FL-enhanced SemCom (FLeS) solution for mobile AIGC-enabled HDT systems and discuss its design requirements and challenges. We later present key technologies necessary to realize the FLeS solution, followed by elaborating on important technical issues to suggest future directions. Experimental results demonstrate that FLeS not only facilitates reliable and personalized content generation but also shows better performance when compared to existing solutions. © 1986-2012 IEEE.

Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is rapidly driving a new phase of artificial intelligence revolution, marked by various applications such as ChatGPT, Sora and DeepSeek. With powerful capabilities in content generation, personalization and user interaction, GenAI can drive significant enhancements in various mobile services to satisfy individual user preferences. Meanwhile, mobile services offer substantial support for accessibility, functionality and intelligence of GenAI applications. However, current research on integrating GenAI and mobile services remains nascent, lacking necessary theoretical and technical support. In this survey, we break down a new vision to guide research on integrating GenAI and mobile services, aiming to improve 6G intelligence levels and enable 6G mobile networks to support the integration of GenAI and mobile services effectively. We begin by examining the necessity of integrating GenAI with 6G mobile services and exploring potential learning architectures of GenAI models within mobile networks. Next, we analyze potential solutions from two perspectives: how 6G mobile networks empower GenAI and how GenAI enables mobile services. We subsequently explore a promising use case, along with essential features and techniques, to facilitate the integration of GenAI and mobile services. Finally, we discuss future research directions, aiming at realizing intelligent 6G networks. © 2015 IEEE.

The HVAC system, energy storage building, distributed power supply, and other equipment are integrated into the scheduling algorithm, which is aimed at reducing household electricity consumption. It is also assumed that users can provide energy to the grid according to their own conditions. Taking electricity cost and comfort level as optimization targets, a home energy optimization control model for the coordinated management of hybrid energy sources is built. A smart scheduling mechanism based on the improved adaptive particle swarm optimization approach is proposed in order to derive the best time intervals for electric appliances, necessary power for the control of the room temperature for every time frame, and power for charging and discharging of the storage battery at various moments. Simulation results show that through the incorporation of distributed photovoltaic power generation, backup storage by battery, and home energy optimization control, the system efficiently balances between user comfort and electricity consumption. This offers great technical support to the development of home energy management systems. By using time-of-use electricity price for energy acquisition and supply, the optimization control goal is minimizing both power use and cost as well as preserving comfort levels. The hybrid energy management's proposed home energy optimization control model uses an adaptive particle swarm optimization algorithm to find the optimal operation schedules of the electrical appliances, the required power for temperature control in a room, and the charge/discharge power level of the storage battery at each time interval. As per the optimization principle, the proposed dynamic programming algorithm converts the multi-stage problem into a sequence of single-stage problems and solves them separately. Allocation Multiplicity: Evaluating the Promises of the Rashomon Set

The Rashomon set of equally-good models promises less discriminatory algorithms, reduced outcome homogenization, and fairer decisions through model ensembles or reconciliation. However, we argue from the perspective of allocation multiplicity that these promises may remain unfulfilled. When there are more qualified candidates than resources available, many different allocations of scarce resources can achieve the same utility. This space of equal-utility allocations may not be faithfully reflected by the Rashomon set, as we show in a case study of healthcare allocations. We attribute these unfulfilled promises to several factors: limitations in empirical methods for sampling from the Rashomon set, the standard practice of deterministically selecting individuals with the lowest risk, and structural biases that cause all equally-good models to view some qualified individuals as inherently risky. © 2025, CC BY.
