Lyapunov optimization theory has recently emerged as a powerful mathematical framework for solving complex stochastic optimization problems by transforming long-term objectives into a sequence of real-time short-term decisions while ensuring system stability. This theory is particularly valuable in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-based low-altitude economy (LAE) networking scenarios, where it could effectively address inherent challenges of dynamic network conditions, multiple optimization objectives, and stability requirements. Recently, generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) has garnered significant attention for its unprecedented capability to generate diverse digital content. Extending beyond content generation, in this paper, we propose a framework integrating generative diffusion models with reinforcement learning to address Lyapunov optimization problems in UAV-based LAE networking. We begin by introducing the fundamentals of Lyapunov optimization theory and analyzing the limitations of both conventional methods and traditional AI-enabled approaches. We then examine various GenAI models and comprehensively analyze their potential contributions to Lyapunov optimization. Subsequently, we develop a Lyapunov-guided generative diffusion model-based reinforcement learning framework and validate its effectiveness through a UAV-based LAE networking case study. Artificial Intelligence is an essential tool for early disease recognition and supporting patient condition monitoring in the future. Timely and exact conclusions about the type of disease are significant for treatment and life extension. A combination of classification and feature selection algorithms can effectively handle complex datasets in the medical field and improve the accuracy of disease diagnosis and treatment. In this paper, we propose a new hybrid feature selection algorithm that uses inconsistency metrics as a filter method for the first step, and then feeds the resulting dataset into a wrapper method, which ultimately results in a reduced dataset. The proposed HFSIM algorithm is tested on five datasets in the medical domain from Kaggle. The obtained feature subsets are verified on three classification algorithms, KNN, LR and RF of machine learning to validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm obtains feature subsets with low dimensionality on most of the datasets and also has high classification accuracy after testing on the classifiers. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

SWIPTNet: A Unified Deep Learning Framework for SWIPT based on GNN and Transfer Learning

This paper investigates the deep learning based approaches for simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT). The quality-of-service (QoS) constrained sum-rate maximization problems are, respectively, formulated for power-splitting (PS) receivers and time-switching (TS) receivers and solved by a unified graph neural network (GNN) based model termed SWIPT net (SWIPTNet). To improve the performance of SWIPTNet, we first propose a single-type output method to reduce the learning complexity and facilitate the satisfaction of QoS constraints, and then, utilize the Laplace transform to enhance input features with the structural information. Besides, we adopt the multi-head attention and layer connection to enhance feature extracting. Furthermore, we present the implementation of transfer learning to the SWIPTNet between PS and TS receivers. Ablation studies show the effectiveness of key components in the SWIPTNet. Numerical results also demonstrate the capability of SWIPTNet in achieving near-optimal performance with millisecond-level inference speed which is much faster than the traditional optimization algorithms. Deep neural network (DNN)-based joint source and channel coding is proposed for privacy-aware end-to-end image transmission against multiple eavesdroppers. Both scenarios of colluding and non-colluding eavesdroppers are considered. Unlike prior works that assume perfectly known and independent identically distributed (i.i.d.) source and channel statistics, the proposed scheme operates under unknown and non-i.i.d. conditions, making it more applicable to real-world scenarios. The goal is to transmit images with minimum distortion, while simultaneously preventing eavesdroppers from inferring certain private attributes of images. Simultaneously generalizing the ideas of privacy funnel and wiretap coding, a multi-objective optimization framework is expressed that characterizes the trade-off between image reconstruction quality and information leakage to eavesdroppers, taking into account the structural similarity index (SSIM) for improving the perceptual quality of image reconstruction. Extensive experiments on the CIFAR-10 and CelebA, along with ablation studies, demonstrate significant performance improvements in terms of SSIM, adversarial accuracy, and the mutual information leakage compared to benchmarks. Experiments show that the proposed scheme restrains the adversarially-trained eavesdroppers from intercepting privatized data for both cases of eavesdropping a common secret, as well as the case in which eavesdroppers are interested in different secrets. Movable Superdirective Pairs: A Phase Shifter-Free Approach to mmWave Communications

In this letter, we propose a novel Movable Superdirective Pairs (MSP) approach that combines movable antennas with superdirective pair arrays to enhance millimeter-wave (mmWave) communications. By controlling the rotation angles and positions of superdirective antenna pairs via low-power actuators on the user side, the proposed MSP approach maximizes the received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of multipath signals without the need for phase shifters, thereby reducing hardware costs and insertion losses. An efficient algorithm based on alternating optimization and gradient projection is developed to solve the non-convex rotation–position design problem. Moreover, MSP is shown to be robust in both line-of-sight (LOS) and non-line-ofsight (NLOS) channels. Simulation results demonstrate that MSP achieves significant performance gains over fixed-position arrays, while maintaining low system complexity. © 2012 IEEE.

Cross-silo federated learning (FL) enables multiple institutions (clients) to collaboratively build a global model without sharing private data. To prevent privacy leakage during aggregation, homomorphic encryption (HE) is widely used to encrypt model updates, yet incurs high computation and communication overheads. To reduce these overheads, packed HE (PHE) has been proposed to encrypt multiple plaintexts into a single ciphertext. However, the original design of PHE assumes all clients share a single private key, making the system vulnerable to security threats of ciphertexts being intercepted and decrypted by honest-but-curious clients. Also, it does not consider the heterogeneity among different clients, resulting in undermined training efficiency with slow convergence and stragglers. To address these challenges, we propose FedPHE, a secure and efficient FL framework with PHE by jointly exploiting contribution-aware secure aggregation and straggler-resistant client selection. Using CKKS with sparsification and blinding, FedPHE achieves efficient secure aggregation that allows clients to only provide obscured encrypted updates while the server can perform aggregation by accounting for contributions of local updates. To mitigate the straggler effect, we devise a perturbed sketch-based selection to cherry-pick representative clients with heterogeneous models and computing capabilities in a communication-efficient and privacy-preserving manner. We show, through rigorous security analysis and extensive experiments, that FedPHE can efficiently safeguard clients' privacy, achieve 2.45-6.56× training speedup, cut the communication overhead by 1.32-24.85×, and reduce straggler effects by 1.89-2.78×. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

Enhancing Large Vision Model in Street Scene Semantic Understanding through Leveraging Posterior Optimization Trajectory

To improve the generalization of the autonomous driving (AD) perception model, vehicles need to update the model over time based on the continuously collected data. As time progresses, the amount of data fitted by the AD model expands, which helps to improve the AD model generalization substantially. However, such ever-expanding data is a double-edged sword for the AD model. Specifically, as the fitted data volume grows to exceed the the AD model’s fitting capacities, the AD model is prone to under-fitting. To address this issue, we propose to use a pretrained Large Vision Models (LVMs) as backbone coupled with downstream perception head to understand AD semantic information. This design can not only surmount the aforementioned under-fitting problem due to LVMs’ powerful fitting capabilities, but also enhance the perception generalization thanks to LVMs’ vast and diverse training data. On the other hand, to mitigate vehicles’ computational burden of training the perception head while running LVM backbone, we introduce a Posterior Optimization Trajectory (POT)-Guided optimization scheme (POTGui) to accelerate the convergence. Concretely, we propose a POT Generator (POTGen) to generate posterior (future) optimization direction in advance to guide the current optimization iteration, through which the model can generally converge within 10 epochs. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed method improves the performance by over 66.48% and converges faster over 6 times, compared to the existing state-of-the-art approach. © 2025, CC BY-NC-ND.

Machine learning has been implemented to detect and identify sign language hand gestures (letters and numbers) using the Photoplethysmography (PPG) and impedance. The sensor data was collected from commercially available wristbands and evaluation boards. Two supervised machine learning algorithms: Random Forest and Support Vector Machine were used for categorizing the data points. The accuracy for each of the algorithms for the letters and numbers was within the range of either 70-75% or 20-28% for the PPG data. The accuracy was between 33-40% and 55-66% using Random Forest. The accuracy was between 61-76% to 80-90% for when using Support Vector Machine for impedance data. Between the two algorithms, the Random forest approach has better consistency of 70-75% with PPG data whereas the Support Vector Machine approach is more consistent for impedance data with 61-76% accuracy to detect the hand gestures.

In intelligent transportation systems (ITSs), incorporating pedestrians and vehicles in-the-loop is crucial for developing realistic and safe traffic management solutions. However, there is falls short of simulating complex real-world ITS scenarios, primarily due to the lack of a digital twin implementation framework for characterizing interactions between pedestrians and vehicles at different locations in different traffic environments. In this article, we propose a surveillance video assisted federated digital twin (SV-FDT) framework to empower ITSs with pedestrians and vehicles in-the-loop. Specifically, SVFDT builds comprehensive pedestrian-vehicle interaction models by leveraging multi-source traffic surveillance videos. Its architecture consists of three layers: (i) the end layer, which collects traffic surveillance videos from multiple sources;(ii) the edge layer, responsible for semantic segmentation-based visual understanding, twin agent-based interaction modeling, and local digital twin system (LDTS) creation in local regions;and (iii) the cloud layer, which integrates LDTSs across different regions to construct a global DT model in realtime. We analyze key design requirements and challenges and present core guidelines for SVFDT’s system implementation. A testbed evaluation demonstrates its effectiveness in optimizing traffic management. Comparisons with traditional terminal-server frameworks highlight SV-FDT’s advantages in mirroring delays, recognition accuracy, and subjective evaluation. Channel estimation poses a main challenge in intelligent reflecting surface (IRS)assisted millimeter wave (mmWave) multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems due to the substantial number of antennas at the base station (BS) and the passive reflective elements within the IRS lacking sufficient signal processing capabilities. This article addresses this challenge by proposing a channel estimation technique for IRS-assisted mmWave MIMO systems. The problem of channel estimation is normally taken as a compressed sensing (CS) problem, typically addressed through algorithms such as Orthogonal Matching Pursuit (OMP), Generalized Approximate Message Passing (GAMP), and Vector Approximate Message Passing with Expectation-Maximization (EM-VAMP). EM-VAMP demonstrates better performance only when a Gaussian mixture (GM) distribution is chosen as the prior for the sparse channel, especially at high signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs). To address this, the article introduces the application of generalized linear models (GLMs), extensions of standard linear models, providing increased flexibility in modeling data that deviates from Gaussian distribution.
