Recent advances in VLSI fabrication technology have led to die shrinkage and increased layout density, creating an urgent demand for advanced hotspot detection techniques. However, by taking an object detection network as the backbone, recent learning-based hotspot detectors learn to recognize only the problematic layout patterns in the training data. This fact makes these hotspot detectors difficult to generalize to real-world scenarios. We propose a novel lithography simulator-powered hotspot detection framework to overcome this difficulty. Our framework integrates a lithography simulator with an object detection backbone, merging the extracted latent features from both the simulator and the object detector via well-designed cross-attention blocks. Consequently, the proposed framework can be used to detect potential hotspot regions based on 1) the variation of possible circuit shape deformation estimated by the lithography simulator and 2) the problematic layout patterns already known. To this end, we utilize RetinaNet with a feature pyramid network as the object detection backbone and leverage LithoNet as the lithography simulator. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our proposed simulator-guided hotspot detection framework outperforms the previous state-of-the-art methods on real-world data. © 2024 IEEE.

Nowadays, people spend a lot of time in travel, and road safety has become an important area of research. As a result, self-driving cars have been gaining popularity in recent years because they have a lot of benefits in terms of reducing traffic congestion and improving road safety, thereby reducing accidents. They also have an environmental benefit as they reduce travel times and hence reduce the usage of fuel. Though a lot of research has already been done in this field, there are always new problems being created and new solutions being found. Apart from self-driving cars, automated navigation also has a huge number of applications. Therefore, it is important to stay up to date about the latest developments in this field. This research is a comprehensive survey that explores and evaluates the different object-detecting algorithms that have been used throughout the years, their advantages, disadvantages, and trade-offs. It also analyses the datasets and benchmarks that have been used for evaluating the models. Multi-view fuzzy clustering (MVFC) has gained widespread adoption owing to its inherent flexibility in handling ambiguous data. The proliferation of privatization devices has driven the emergence of new challenge in MVFC researches. Federated learning, a technique that can jointly train without directly using raw data, has gain significant attention in decentralized MVFC. However, their applicability depends on the assumptions of data integrity and independence between different views. In fact, while within distributed environments, data typically exhibits two challenging problems: (1) multiple views within a single client;(2) incomplete data. Existing methods exhibit limitations in effectively addressing these challenges. Hence, in this study, we aim at achieving the effective clustering for incomplete data by a novel vertical federated MVFC framework. Specifically, a unified clustering framework is designed to capture both local client learning and global server training. For the local client learning, the data reconstruction strategy and prototype alignment strategy are introduced to ensure the preservation of data structure and refinement of clustering relationships, which mitigates the impact of incomplete data. Meanwhile, the global training process implements aggregation based on client-specific information. The whole process is realized based on the unified fuzzy clustering framework, promoting collaborative learning between client-specific and server information. Theoretical analyses and extensive experiments are carefully conducted to validate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method from multiple perspectives. © 1993-2012 IEEE.

DRL-Enabled Computation Offloading for AIGC Services in IIoT-Assisted Edge computing Networks

The widespread application of AI-generated content (AIGC) services has driven demand for efficient computational resources, making effective task scheduling and computation offloading in edge computing (EC) environments a critical research topic. However, the high computational requirements and low latency demands of AIGC services, combined with the limitations of EC, present challenges for existing offloading methods, such as unstable decision making in dynamic task environments and resource overloading. Here, we propose a decentralized AIGC task offloading architecture within an IoT-assisted EC network to optimize the quality of AIGC services. In this architecture, we define a multiobjective joint optimization problem for AIGC task offloading, aiming to simultaneously optimize key performance metrics, such as task latency, energy efficiency, and load balancing. To address this problem, we introduce an improved proximal policy optimization (PPO)-based deep reinforcement learning (DRL) algorithm, named TOPPO. By incorporating a policy update step size constraint and a clipping mechanism, TOPPO significantly enhances the stability of the training process and reduces fluctuations during policy updates. Additionally, the algorithm integrates an LSTM model to improve its ability to handle temporal dependencies. Through continuous interaction between the model and the environment, the offloading strategy is iteratively updated to ensure that diverse AIGC tasks are efficiently executed on IoT devices or edge servers. Extensive simulations and performance evaluations demonstrate that the proposed method achieves significant improvements in task latency, energy consumption, and load management during AIGC task processing. © 2014 IEEE.

Network traffic anomaly detection involves the rapid identification of intrusions within a network through the detection, analysis, and classification of network traffic data. The variety of cyberattacks encompasses diverse attack principles. Employing an indiscriminate feature selection strategy may lead to the neglect of key features highly correlated with specific attack types. This oversight could diminish the recognition rate for that category, thereby impacting the overall performance of the detection model. To address this issue, this paper proposes a network traffic anomaly detection model based on the fusion of attack-dimensional features. Firstly, construct binary classification datasets independently for each attack class and perform individual feature selection to extract positively correlated features for each class. The features are then fused by employing a combination methods. Subsequently, based on the fused sub-datasets, base classifiers are trained. Finally, an ensemble learning approach is introduced to integrate the predictions of individual classifiers, enhancing the robustness of the model. The proposed approach, validated on NSL-KDD and UNSW-NB15 benchmark datasets, outperforms the latest methods in the field by achieving a 2% and 7% increase in precision on weighted averages. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Large language models (LLMs) have made great progress in classification and text generation tasks. However, they are mainly trained on English data and often struggle with low-resource languages. In this study, we explore adding a new language, i.e., Persian, to Llama (a model with a limited understanding of Persian) using parameter-efficient fine-tuning. We employ a multi-stage approach involving pretraining on monolingual Persian data, aligning representations through bilingual pretraining and instruction datasets, and instruction-tuning with task-specific datasets. We evaluate the model's performance at each stage on generation and classification tasks. Our findings suggest that incorporating the Persian language, through bilingual data alignment, can enhance classification accuracy for Persian tasks, with no adverse impact and sometimes even improvements on English tasks. Additionally, the results highlight the model's initial strength as a critical factor when working with limited training data, with cross-lingual alignment offering minimal benefits for the low-resource language. Knowledge transfer from English to Persian has a marginal effect, primarily benefiting simple classification tasks. © 2025 Association for Computational Linguistics.

A collaborative system that includes mobile devices (MDs), edge nodes (ENs), and the cloud is needed where ENs at the network edge can run offloaded tasks of MDs with limited resources and energy for timely processing for latency-sensitive applications. Unlike existing studies, we formulate a total cost minimization problem for the system for applications, which can be divided into several interdependent subtasks. Each subtask can be executed in MDs, ENs, and the cloud. This work formulates a mixed-integer nonlinear program to minimize the total system cost. To address it, a novel meta-heuristic optimization algorithm called Genetic Simulated-annealing-based Particle swarm optimization with Auto-Encoder (GSPAE) is proposed, which innovatively combines feature extraction of deep learning and global search of meta-heuristic optimization. Genetic operations provide diverse solutions, the Metropolis acceptance of annealing offers a robust global search, and autoencoders (AEs) extract distribution characteristics of particles toward high-quality regions for fast convergence. Thus, GSPAE optimizes the associations between ENs and MDs and the scheduling of subtasks among MDs, ENs, and the cloud. Experiments with large-scale Google cluster datasets show that compared to state-of-the-art benchmark methods, GSPAE reduces the total cost by at least 17% while strictly meeting limits of application latency, available energy, computing, and communication resources of ENs and MDs. © 2014 IEEE.

Abstract: Feature selection poses a challenge in high-dimensional datasets, where the number of features exceeds the number of observations, as seen in microarray, gene expression, and medical datasets. There is not a universally optimal feature selection method applicable to any data distribution, and as a result, the literature consistently endeavors to address this issue. One recent approach in feature selection is termed frequency-based feature selection. However, existing methods in this domain tend to overlook feature values, focusing solely on the distribution in the response variable. In response,this paper introduces the Distance-based Mutual Congestion (DMC) as a filter method that considers both the feature values and the distribution of observations in the response variable. DMC sorts the features of datasets, and the top 5% are retained and clustered by KMeans to mitigate multicollinearity. This is achieved by randomly selecting one feature from each cluster. The selected features form the feature space, and the search space for the Genetic Algorithm with Adaptive Rates (GAwAR) will be approximated using this feature space. GAwAR approximates the combination of the top 10 features that maximizes prediction accuracy within a wrapper scheme. To prevent premature convergence, GAwAR adaptively updates the crossover and mutation rates. The hybrid DMC-GAwAR is applicable to binary classification datasets, and experimental results demonstrate its superiority over some recent works. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

With the increasing water shortage and climatic uncertainty, creative strategies for effective water management in agriculture are necessary. This research investigates the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), with solar-powered Internet of Things (IoT) networks to enhance water utilization in agricultural activities. The proposed system facilitates accurate irrigation scheduling using real-time data from soil moisture sensors, meteorological stations, and crop health monitoring devices. The ANN model analyses this data to predict ideal irrigation schedules and volumes, minimizing water waste while improving crop yields. The solar-powered IoT framework provides sustainability and reduces dependence on traditional energy sources. Field trials indicate that the AI-enhanced system may promote water saving by as much as 30% relative to traditional irrigation techniques. Moreover, using AI enables adaptive learning, enabling the system to enhance its irrigation tactics using historical and real-time data. This novel method conserves water resources and fosters sustainable agriculture practices, coinciding with global initiatives to address water shortages and assure food security. The findings underscore the potential of technology-based solutions to revolutionize agricultural water management for a sustainable future. © 2025 IEEE.

Chord prediction plays a key role in the advancement of musical technological innovations, such as automatic music transcription, real-time music tutoring, and intelligent composition tools. Accurate chord prediction can assist musicians, educators, and developers in constructing tools that help in learning, playing, and composing music. Background noise and audio distortions may have an impact on chord prediction accuracy, particularly in real-world situations. Chords can have distinct voicings or finger positions on the guitar, resulting in slight variations in audio representation. This study focuses on the classification of guitar chords using techniques of deep learning. There are eight major and minor guitar chords in the dataset. They have been turned into spectrograms, chromagrams, and Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) so that features can be extracted. Various deep learning architectures, including CNN, ResNet50, AlexNet, and VGG, were employed to classify the chords. Experimental results demonstrated that the spectrogram-based AlexNet model outperforms others, achieving good accuracy and robustness in chord classification. The proposed study demonstrates the efficiency of spectrograms and advanced deep learning models for audio signal processing in music applications. By automating chord detection, this study provides beneficial resources for music learners as well as educators, enabling more efficient learning and real-time feedback during practice sessions. © (2025), (science and Information Organization).
