With our society more information-driven, we have begun to distribute data in wide-area storage systems. At the same time, both physical failure and logic error have made it difficult to bring the necessary recovery to bear on remote data disaster, and understanding this proceeding. We describe ARRAY, a system architecture for data disaster recovery that combines reliability, storage space, and security to improve performance for data recovery applications. The paper presents an exhaustive analysis of the design space of ARRAY systems, focusing on the trade-offs between reliability, storage space, security, and performance that ARRAY must make. We present RSRAII (Replication-based Snapshot Redundant Array of Independent Imagefiles) which is a configurable RAID-like data erasure-coding, and also others benefits come from consolidation both erasure-coding and replication strategies. A novel algorithm is proposed to improve snapshot performance referred to as SMPDP (Snapshot based on Multi-Parallel Degree Pipeline).

We consider two flow control schemes for best effort traffic in on-chip architectures, which can be deemed as the solutions to the boundary extremes of a class of utility maximization problem. At one extreme, we consider the so-called rate-sum flow control scheme, which aims at improving the performance of the underlying system by roughly maximizing throughput while satisfying capacity constraints. At the other extreme, we deem the max-min flow control, whose concern is to maintain max-min fairness in rate allocation by fairly sacrificing the throughput. We then elaborate our argument through a weighting mechanism in order to achieve a balance between the orthogonal goals of performance and fairness. Moreover, we investigate the implementation facets of the presented flow control schemes in on-chip architectures. Finally, we validate the proposed flow control schemes and the subsequent arguments through extensive simulation experiments.

Covert channel attacks utilize shared resources to indirectly transmit sensitive information to unauthorized parties. Current security mechanisms such as SELinux rely on tagging the filesystem with access control properties. However, such mechanisms do not provide strong protection against information laundering via covert channels. Colored Linux , an extension to SELinux, utilizes watermarking algorithms to ldquocolorrdquo the contents of each file with their respective security classification to enhance resistance to information laundering attacks. In this paper, we propose a mobile agent-based approach to automate the process of detecting and coloring receptive hosts' filesystems and monitoring the colored filesystem for instances of potential information leakage. Implementation details and execution results are included to illustrate the merits of the proposed approach.

Memory impaired people, e.g., dementia people, requires careful social support. Dementia people are getting increased with very high rate especially. It has been reported that regular daily life can alleviate the symptom of the memory loss. Accordingly, human behavior suggestion is highly expected to help memory impaired people live regularly. In this paper, we propose a human behavior suggestion system based on Fuzzy-state Q-Learning for memory impaired person, and show its possible application in Intelligent Sweet Home. Specifically, we claim that an averaged frequency feature is an important factor. In order to evaluate the validity of the proposed human behavior suggestion system, we conduct experiments with a real world data set, INT DB. The experimental results show that the proposed system with the averaged frequency feature outperforms the existing system.

We present a theoretical model describing Ogston (pore size comparable to or larger than the characteristic molecular dimension) sieving of rigid isotropic and anisotropic biomolecules in nanofluidic molecular filter arrays comprising of alternating deep and shallow regions. Starting from a quasi-one-dimensional drift-diffusion description, which captures the interplay between the driving electric force, entropic barrier and molecular diffusion, we derive explicit analytical results for the effective mobility and trapping time. Our results elucidate the effects of field strength, device geometry and entropic barrier height, providing a robust tool for the design and optimization of nanofilter/nanopore systems. Specifically, we show that Ogston sieving becomes negligible when the length of shallow region becomes sufficiently small, mainly due to efficient diffusional transport through the short shallow region. Our theoretical results are in line with experimental observations and provide important design insight for nanofluidic systems.

This paper presents an architectural model for wireless peer-to-peer (WP2P) file sharing system for ubiquitous mobile devices. File sharing is one of the rationales for computer networks with increasing demand for file sharing applications and technologies in small and large enterprise networks and on the Internet. With the popularity of mobile phones in day-to-day activities, P2P file sharing in mobile phones is highly desirable, especially in 2/2.5 G mobile networks. The proposed model is based on a hybrid or semi centralized architecture with the central database server acting as an interface between the mobile devices. The P2P communication model employs the short messaging service (SMS) and multimedia messaging service (MMS) as the messaging medium. The mobile phone initiates a search for a particular file on the mobile P2P network using a general packet radio service (GPRS) connection. The database replies the ldquosearcherrdquo mobile phone with a list of all the available files and the details of the mobile phones that have them. Using this information, the requesting mobile phone makes a SMS connection to any of the phones provided by the database server. The mobile phone with the file then sends it to the requesting mobile phone using the MMS. We present an architectural model using mobile proxy, SMS and MMS, for a mobile P2P network for 2/2.5 G networks despite operator constraints.

This paper presents the design of a 10 Gb/s low power wire-line transceiver in 65 nm CMOS process with 1 V supply voltage. The transmitter occupies an area of 430 mum times 240 mum, consumes 50.56 mW power and has a 5-order programmable pre-emphasis equalizer. The receiver occupies an area of 300 mum times 500 mum. With the novel half rate period calibration clock data recovery (CDR) circuit, the receiver consumes only 52 mW power. The receiver combines a low power wideband programmable continuous time linear equalizer (CTLE) and a 3-order decision feedback equalizer (DFE).

Electronic systems that offer elastic mechanical responses to high strain deformations are of growing interest, due to their ability to enable new electrical, optical and biomedical devices and other applications whose requirements are impossible to satisfy with conventional wafer-based technologies or even with those that offer simple bendability. This paper describes materials and mechanical design strategies for classes of electronic circuits that offer extremely high flexibility and stretchability over large area, enabling them to accommodate even demanding deformation modes, such as twisting and linear stretching to ‘rubber-band’ levels of strain over 100%. The use of printed single crystalline silicon nanomaterials for the semiconductor provides performance in flexible and stretchable complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) integrated circuits approaching that of conventional devices with comparable feature sizes formed on silicon wafers. Comprehensive theoretical studies of the mechanics reveal the way in which the structural designs enable these extreme mechanical properties without fracturing the intrinsically brittle active materials or even inducing significant changes in their electrical properties. The results, as demonstrated through electrical measurements of arrays of transistors, CMOS inverters, ring oscillators and differential amplifiers, suggest a valuable route to high performance stretchable electronics that can be integrated with nearly arbitrary substrates. We show examples ranging from plastic and rubber, to vinyl, leather and paper, with capability for large area coverage.

The discovery of biomarkers and the underlying causes of diseases are enabled through the analysis of biological samples and data stored in biobanks. Biological samples and their associated data are expensive to collect and maintain, and it is important to store and manage them efficiently. During processing, samples and data go through a number of procedures and techniques, which are often in different locations and by individuals with different access permissions. It is essential to maintain the link between the samples and their associated data throughout the processes they undergo. This paper presents a novel system of tracking samples and data from collection through processing to storage and retrieval, which is based on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. This system ensures the security and reliability of sample data as well as location-independent recording and updating of sample data, as they move along the workflow.

The paper presents an implementation of the current state-of-the-art, with respect to acquisition, analysis and distribution of real-time remotely sensed data from multiple polar orbiting and geostationary earth observing satellite sensors, deploying high performance computing for time-critical disaster mitigation applications.
