Higher-order properties and extensions for indirect MRAC and APPC of linear systems

Recently, a reference derived some new higher-order output tracking properties for direct model reference adaptive control（MRAC） of linear time-invariant（LTI） systems: limt→∞ e（i）（t） = 0, i = 1,..., n*-1, where n*and e（i）（t） denote the relative degree of the system and the i-th derivative of the output tracking error, respectively. However, a naturally arising question involves whether indirect adaptive control（including indirect MRAC and indirect adaptive pole placement control） of LTI systems still has higher-order tracking properties. Such properties have not been reported in the literature. Therefore, this paper provides an affirmative answer to this question. Such higher-order tracking properties are new discoveries since they hold without any additional design conditions and, in particular, without the persistent excitation condition. Given the higher-order properties, a new adaptive control system is developed with stronger tracking features.（1） It can track a reference signal with any order derivatives being unknown.（2） It has higher-order exponential or practical output tracking properties.（3） Finally, it is different from the usual MRAC system, whose reference signal's derivatives up to the n*order are assumed to be known. Finally, two simulation examples are provided to verify the theoretical results obtained in this paper.

The Internet of Things(IoT)links various devices to digital services and significantly improves the quality of our ***,as IoT connectivity is growing rapidly,so do the risks of network vulnerabilities and *** interesting Intrusion Detection systems(IDSs)are presented based on machine learning(ML)techniques to overcome this *** the resource limitations of fog computing environments,a lightweight IDS is *** paper introduces a hybrid deep learning(DL)method that combines convolutional neural networks(CNN)and long short-term memory(LSTM)to build an energy-aware,anomaly-based *** test this system on a recent dataset,focusing on reducing overhead while maintaining high accuracy and a low false alarm *** compare CICIoT2023,KDD-99 and NSL-KDD datasets to evaluate the performance of the proposed IDS model based on key metrics,including latency,energy consumption,false alarm rate and detection rate *** findings show an accuracy rate over 92%and a false alarm rate below 0.38%.These results demonstrate that our system provides strong security without excessive resource *** practicality of deploying IDS with limited resources is demonstrated by the successful implementation of IDS functionality on a Raspberry Pi acting as a Fog *** proposed lightweight model,with a maximum power consumption of 6.12 W,demonstrates its potential to operate effectively on energy-limited devices such as low-power fog nodes or edge *** prioritize energy efficiency whilemaintaining high accuracy,distinguishing our scheme fromexisting *** experiments demonstrate a significant reduction in false positives,ensuring accurate identification of genuine security threats while minimizing unnecessary alerts.

As communication technologies and equipment evolve, smart assets become smarter. The agricultural industry is also evolving in line with the implementation of modern communication protocols, intelligent sensors, and equipment. This evolution is enabling large-scale agricultural production processes to operate independently, thus, securing the food supply chain for an ever-growing population. Data processing for such a system with multiple heterogeneous sources requires proper management for effective agricultural operations. Recognizing the advantages of machine learning (ML) in performing large-scale data processing, researchers are investigating the implementation of ML to design an effective intelligent agricultural architecture. The aim of this article is to provide a thorough analysis of the state-of-the-art in smart agriculture, open challenges, and guidelines for the development of further enhanced smart agriculture systems. Specifically, we describe how ML is used to create intelligent agricultural systems supported by state-of-the-art technology. © 2020 IEEE.

Short-term load forecasting tasks utilize a plethora of weather sequences in order to study meaningful features that describe complex relationships between environmental parameters and the variable of load as well as the occurrence of impactful events, reinforcing the predictive power of estimators. It is evident that the inclusion of those additional features increases the input dimensions and decreases the overall explain ability of forecasting models since not all of the extracted features are equally compatible with the assumptions of the regressors, resulting in models where the justification of predictive potency, the connection between the variance of the target variable and the variance of predictors as well as the explanation of the computational flow are made increasingly difficult due to ambiguity. Therefore, this research work studies the representativeness of weather variables and examines the explain ability of interpretable short-term load forecasting structures that utilize environmental sequences towards the selection of important feature subsets that maximize the explained variance of load time series as well as the seasonal, trend and residual load components during training. This project considers linear regression and prominent tree-based estimators coupled with model-dependent feature importance frameworks utilizing game theoretic, permutative and impurity-based approaches for the derivation of optimal feature sets and feature set combinations in terms of explained variance scores. Additionally, two structural approaches of explainable feature set generation from the joint feature importance scores through the utilization of hierarchical and maj ority inclusion are compared and the main observations from each stage of this analysis are discussed. © 2023 IEEE.

The need for autonomous unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is rapidly increasing for various industrial applications today. However, the realization of UAV autonomy requires a careful mix of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and computer vision (CV) techniques to be implemented to address end-user challenges and satisfy field requirements. This study aims to develop an intelligent system for UAV to achieve autonomy with standard low-cost hardware components. We have infused state-of-the-art AI and CV technologies into our developed system architecture to improve autonomous navigational capabilities of UAVs. The proposed architecture has been implemented and tested on the DJI Tello UAV equipped only with a monocular camera on-board and an inertial measurement unit (IMU). We focused on solving multiple practical technical problems that have arisen during this study due to the hardware limitations of the UAV. The study investigated methods for representing obstacles within an environmental map, which are crucial for effective avoidance and path planning, such as their edges, width, and shape, to ensure accurate detection and navigation. The experiments were carried out in an environment that included dynamic obstacles that were not considered in the map. The experimental results showed outstanding performance in terms of successful autonomous navigation for a wide range of light intensity. These results show that the proposed approach has a high potential to achieve autonomous UAV operation in the field with low hardware and energy requirements. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

In the process of coal mine drilling,controlling the rotary speed is important as it determines the efficiency and safety of *** this paper,a linear extended state observer(LESO)based backstepping controller for rotary speed is proposed,which can overcome the impact of changes in coal seam hardness on rotary ***,the influence of coal seam hardness on the drilling rig’s rotary system is considered for the first time,which is reflected in the numerical variation of load torque,and a dynamic model for the design of rotary speed controller is *** an LESO is designed to observe the load torque,and feedforward compensation is carried out to overcome the influence of coal seam *** on the model of the compensated system,a backstepping method is used to design a controller to achieve tracking control of the rotary ***,the effectiveness of the controller designed in this paper is demonstrated through simulation and field experiments,the steady-state error of the rotary speed in field is 1 r/min,and the overshoot is reduced to 5.8%.This greatly improves the stability and security,which is exactly what the drilling process requires.

The Internet of Things (IoT) has transformed how smart cities operate, significantly improving their inhabitants' efficiency and overall quality of life. However, the massive volume of sensitive data generated by IoT devices presents challenges, including privacy concerns and communication overheads. Traditional centralized data processing can compromise privacy and require significant communication, leading to scalability problems and power drains. Federated Learning (FL) offers a solution by processing data locally and transmitting only the model parameters. Vanilla FL faces challenges in IoT environments due to latency, bandwidth constraints, and power drain. Hierarchical FL (HFL) effectively addresses these issues by hierarchically leveraging the processing capabilities of both cloud and edge servers to optimize resource utilization and efficiently minimize latency. This paper evaluates HFL using IoT-derived datasets, develops and implements the HFL framework for resource-constrained IoT systems, and conducts the first known HFL tests on relevant datasets to demonstrate its performance. © 2024 IEEE.

Autonomous vehicles (AVs) are vehicles that traverse on the road without active human intervention. With a coordinator, AVs can be connected to provide high-efficiency transport services, such as AV-based public transport networks. The controller can manage the network by coordinating the transport request assignment, traveling, and charging/discharging schedule. On the other hand, AVs are likely to be electric and benefit the smart grid via vehicle-to-grid technology. A well-designed mobility network connecting electric AVs (EAVs) and smart grid can substantially reduce unnecessary travel and energy costs. In this article, we aim to maximize utilities in the AV-based public transport network and the power distribution network for the vehicle network containing EAVs, charging stations, and distributed power generations. We formulate the assignment and scheduling problem as a multiobjective mixed-integer program (MIP). To solve the optimization problem, we develop a hybrid heuristic approach based on nondominated sorting genetic algorithm II (NSGA-II) and branch-and-bound (BnB) algorithms. Experiments are conducted on a modified 15-bus distribution system and a simulated traffic network. The results show that the proposed strategy effectively minimizes the total travel and energy purchase cost by 21%. This study provides valuable insights on vehicle coordination for multiple tasks, offering visionary guidance for stakeholders engaged in multifaceted transportation endeavors. © 2014 IEEE.
