Recent research endeavors have been dedicated to innovative wireless hardware designs and connection concepts aimed at fulfilling the ambitious objectives of 6th Generation (6G) wireless communications. The inclusion of Terahertz (THz) technology in modern infrastructure holds immense potential for shaping 6G networks, offering amplified throughput, extended coverage, heightened security, and improved positioning while reducing power consumption. The demand for efficient control over THz waves has grown alongside the advancements in wireless domain. Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) have garnered a lot of attention as a means of regulating electromagnetic waves. In this study, we investigate the utilization of a RIS employing graphene-based materials to control THz waves, with a specific focus on enhancing reflection performance and enabling beam steering. Our proposed RIS design entails a periodic array of graphene stacked over a grounded substrate.

In general, public or private organizations or companies have used information-based technology as a support to improve business performance to be more effective and efficient in order to achieve a company’s business goals. Given the large contribution of information technology in the application of hotel applications as a supporting information system, it is a vital system that must avoid risks that can hinder and cause harm to the hotel management business processes. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out risk management using the COBIT 5 framework to manage possible risks that may occur based on the APO12 (Manage Risk) domain. From the evaluation results of the data obtained through observation and interviews as well as the calculation of the results of the questionnaire based on 6 APO12 subdomains, the results of the risk management level capability assessment in hotel applications are still at level 3 or have reached the level of established process with the target to be achieved at level 4 resulting in a gap of 1 level. Based on the results obtained, it is necessary to propose recommendations that can be used by hotels in improving the application of information technology risk management so that in the future it can achieve the expected target level so that the APO12 level of capability can increase and become more optimal.

We present an innovative, platform-independent concept for multiparameter sensing where the measurable parameters are in series, or cascaded, enabling measurements as a function of position. With temporally resolved detection, we show that squeezing can give a quantum enhancement in sensitivity over that of classical states by a factor of e2r, where r ≈ 1 is the squeezing parameter. As an example, we have modeled an interferometer that senses multiple phase shifts along the same path, demonstrating a maximal quantum advantage by combining a coherent state with squeezed vacuum. Further classical modeling with up to 100 phases shows linear scaling potential for adding nodes to the sensor. The approach can be applied to remote sensing, geophysical surveying, and infrastructure monitoring. © 2023, CC BY.

Implementation of multinuclear MRI/S as a diagnostic tool in clinical settings faces many challenges. One of those challenges is the development of highly sensitive multinuclear RF coils. Current multi-tuning techniques incorporate lossy components that impact the highest achievable SNR for at least one of the coil frequencies. As a result, optimization of multinuclear coil designs continues to be a priority for RF hardware engineers. To address this challenge, a new frequency switching technology that incorporates stimuli-responsive polymer materials was explored. Q measurements were used as a comparison metric between single-tuned, a standard switching network, and the proposed switching technology. The Q losses measured in the new switching method remained below 38% when compared to single-tuned coils. These results are consistent with low loss values reported using traditional switching networks. Furthermore, preliminary testing indicates that there is potential for improvement. These results establish the new technology as a promising alternative to traditional switching *** Relevance— A low loss multi-tuning technique for MRI radiofrequency coils has the potential of improving the study and diagnosis of disease.

Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) have drawn the attention of researchers in the medical imaging field. Many researchers have exploited CNN for breast cancer detection. This study provides an Internet of Things (IoT) friendly implementation of CNN for breast cancer detection. To achieve faster time to Market, Deep-learning Processing Unit (DPU) on Field programmable Gate Array (FPGA) is adopted for the CNN hardware implementation. CNN inference on the proposed system achieves a 1.6x speed-up factor and 91.5% reduction in energy consumption compared to the conventional general-purpose multi-core Central Processing Unit (CPU).

On-Chip Unidirectional Waveguiding for Surface Acoustic Waves along a Defect Line in a Triangular Lattice

The latest advances in topological physics have yielded a toolset for highly robust wave-propagation modalities for overcoming obstacles involving beam steering and lateral diffraction in surface acoustic waves (SAWs). However, extant proposals are limited to the exploitation of spin- or valley-polarized phases and rely on nonzero Berry curvature effects. Here, we propose and experimentally demonstrate a highly robust guiding principle, which instead employs an intrinsic chirality of phase vortices and maintains a zero Berry curvature for SAWs. Based on a line defect within a true triangular phononic lattice, the guided SAW mode spans a wide bandwidth [(Δω/ωcenter) ∼ 10%] and is well confined in the lateral direction with 3-dB attenuation within half of a unit cell. SAW routing around sharp bends with negligible backscatter is demonstrated. The on-chip integrated design permits unidirectional SAW modes that can enable considerable miniaturization of SAW-based devices, with applications ranging from radio-frequency devices to quantum information transduction.

Theory of liquid-mediated strain release in two-dimensional materials

Strain engineering in transition metal dichalcogenides is an important means to manipulate these materials' electronic and optical properties. Recently, it has been shown that WSe2 monolayers grown on fused silica substrates using chemical vapor deposition can retain residual strain due to thermal expansion mismatch. Moreover, it was demonstrated that this strain can be released using a solvent-evaporation mediated decoupling method. A continuum theory to explain these observations is introduced and its predictions analyzed. The theory is used to establish that it is plausible that bonds much weaker than typical covalent bonds are sufficient to stabilize strains in the range of those experimentally observed. It is shown that the presence of the solvent modifies the equilibrium in-plane displacement of the film, while its lifting is negligible. Under the proper conditions, this displacement leads to an increase in the decoupling force, thereby initiating the strain relief process. The theory clarifies the role of the liquid surface tension in the relaxation process, and it identifies the relationships between droplet wetting behavior and initial strain state that will lead to solute-evaporation mediated decoupling.

Whittle-Matérn fields are a recently introduced class of Gaussian processes on metric graphs, which are specified as solutions to a fractional-order stochastic differential equation. Unlike earlier covariance-based approaches for specifying Gaussian fields on metric graphs, the Whittle-Matérn fields are well-defined for any compact metric graph and can provide Gaussian processes with differentiable sample paths. We derive the main statistical properties of the model class, particularly the consistency and asymptotic normality of maximum likelihood estimators of model parameters and the necessary and sufficient conditions for asymptotic optimality properties of linear prediction based on the model with misspecified parameters. The covariance function of the Whittle-Matérn fields is generally unavailable in closed form, and they have therefore been challenging to use for statistical inference. However, we show that for specific values of the fractional exponent, when the fields have Markov properties, likelihood-based inference and spatial prediction can be performed exactly and computationally efficiently. This facilitates using the Whittle-Matérn fields in statistical applications involving big datasets without the need for any approximations. In this paper, we theoretically demonstrate the tunability of the Casimir force both in sign and magnitude between parallel plates coated with dispersive materials. We show that this force, existing between uncharged plates, can be tuned by carefully choosing the value of the plasma frequency (i.e., the epsilon-near-zero frequency) of the coating in the neighborhood of the resonance frequency of the cavity. The coating layer enables a continuous variation of the force between four limiting values when a coating is placed on each plate. We explore the consequences of such variation when pairs of electric and magnetic conductors (i.e., low and high impedance surfaces) are used as substrates on either side, showing that this continuous variation results in changes in the sign of the force, leading to both stable and unstable conditions, which could find interesting potential applications in nanomechanics, including nanoparticle tweezing.

Anisotropic excitonic photocurrent in β−Ga2O3

Polarization-dependent photocurrent spectra are measured on a (001) β−Ga2O3 Schottky photodetector, where the linear polarization of light is rotated within the ab plane. Three spectral peaks at 4.92, 5.15, and 5.44 eV are observed that vary in intensity with the optical polarization direction. The peak transition energies are consistent with excitons previously reported in β−Ga2O3 due to interband transitions modified by the valence-band p-orbital anisotropy and the electron-hole Coulombic attraction. The measured polarization dependence of the photocurrent matches our predictions based on electromagnetic simulations of anisotropic absorption using the complex dielectric function tensor extracted from previous ellipsometry studies. These results illustrate the dominance of excitonic absorption and photocurrent in β−Ga2O3 both below and above the band gap, demonstrate a combined theoretical/experimental understanding of anisotropic photocarrier generation, and validate previous atomistic band-structure calculations in this low-symmetry ultrawide-band-gap semiconductor.
