This research-to-practice paper describes developing and analyzing state-of-the-art smart boots created by combining CAD technology and advanced 3D printing techniques to attract students in bio-engineering and related fields. The primary objective of this innovative immobilization boot is to expedite fracture recovery phases through an ergonomic design to ensure optimal patient comfort during its use. Technological solutions are crucial in aiding the rehabilitation process for fractures caused by falls, heavy lifting, or rotational trauma. However, cost and comfort-related issues persist, underscoring the need for alternative approaches. This research addresses these challenges and delves into the broader implications of fracture treatment, catalyzing future projects and investigations in bioengineering. Additionally, this study serves as an educational tool that sparks the interest of high school and engineering students, promoting multidisciplinary collaboration in innovation. By involving students in specialized courses covering 3D design, human bone anatomy, biology, and materials science, this initiative empowers them to deepen their knowledge and develop new technologies to address bone injury problems. Material analyses include evaluating the type of material depending on the fracture site, such as PLA for printing and cotton and silicone gel for the midsection between the splint and the body. This research aims to advance our understanding of the type of fracture, the methods associated with their treatment, and tissue repair processes during bone callus formation. To summarize, this multidisciplinary approach drives advancements in bio-engineering and related fields, aiming to enhance patient outcomes and inspire students to pursue further research in bio-engineering and related fields. More than 1.3 million electric vehicles have been installed throughout the globe, and public charging networks for these vehicles are becoming increasingly common. It has been an area of interest to establish a plan for prioritizing the charging of electric vehicles (EVs) from a single network. This is particularly important in situations when the power source is restricted, such as with renewable energy, and for economic reasons (a higher price per KWh for quicker charging). When used in conjunction with electric vehicle (EV) charging, solar energy significantly decreases our reliance on fossil fuels. An electric car solar charger is created and constructed inside this system. In order to maximize the output from the solar panels, a dc-dc boost converter is used to transfer the voltage from the panels to the station's batteries. Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) is also included. Power the charging station with energy from the solar panels so that the vehicle's rechargeable battery may be charged. The charging station's status can be monitored at any time via the Internet of Things. We have created a solar-powered charging station to provide simple accessibility. Solar power is both a sustainable and accessible renewable energy source. Arduino controller for light-dependent resistor (LDR) light intensity monitoring, solar cell energy observation, battery charging, and cloud storage. The core idea behind the article is the IoT Solar Charging Station (IoTSCS), and it is tested by comparing it to the Classical Solar Charging Station (CSCS), a more traditional scheme, in order to see how well the new scheme works.

BaTiS3, a quasi-1D complex chalcogenide, has gathered considerable scientific and technological interest due to its giant optical anisotropy and electronic phase transitions. However, the synthesis of high-quality BaTiS3 crystals, particularly those featuring crystal sizes of millimeters or larger, remains a challenge. Here, we investigate the growth of BaTiS3 crystals utilizing a molten salt flux of either potassium iodide, or a mixture of barium chloride and barium iodide. The crystals obtained through this method exhibit a substantial increase in volume compared to those synthesized via the chemical vapor transport method, while preserving their intrinsic optical and electronic properties. Our flux growth method provides a promising route towards the production of high-quality, large-scale single crystals of BaTiS3, which will greatly facilitate advanced characterizations of BaTiS3 and its practical applications that require large crystal dimensions. Additionally, our approach offers an alternative synthetic route for other emerging complex chalcogenides. © 2024, CC BY.

Production losses of agricultural commodities on agricultural land due to product defects depend on the level of pest and disease attacks. Defects cause the product not to be harvested or rejected by the market. Data from the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia in 2021 shows the percentage of defective products for this commodity is 5%. This study aims to detect defects in agricultural products using image processing and artificial neural networks. We used the screening threshold method with potato research samples from Dieng, Indonesia. The study results for spot defects showed that from 100 training data, there were five incorrect identification data, so the accuracy of the training process was 95%. At the same time, the hole defect accuracy is better, which is 97%. It shows that defects in agricultural commodities can be detected using this method. For further research, the development of agricultural product sorting can combine sorting techniques with this method. © 2022 IEEE.

False data injection attacks (FDIAs) on smart power grids’ measurement data present a threat to system stability. When malicious entities launch cyberattacks to manipulate the measurement data, different grid components will be affected, which leads to failures. For effective attack mitigation, two tasks are required: determining the status of the system (normal operation/under attack) and localizing the attacked bus/power substation. Existing mitigation techniques carry out these tasks separately and offer limited detection performance. In this paper, we propose a multi-task learning-based approach that performs both tasks simultaneously using a graph neural network (GNN) with stacked convolutional Chebyshev graph layers. Our results show that the proposed model presents superior system status identification and attack localization abilities with detection rates of 98.5−100% and 99 − 100%, respectively, presenting improvements of 5 − 30% compared to benchmarks.

We present the fabrication and validation of a thin, flexible electrochemical sensor module for real-time capsule-based detection of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. This work advances ingestible gas sensor design using a nafion solid-state electrolyte and Au electrode to selectively monitor trace physiological H2S concentrations within a linear range of 0.9-9 ppm. Pretreatment parameters to optimize nafion conductivity and hydration retention were investigated. Selectivity from known interference gases and operation in humid conditions was compared to a commercial SPEC-H2S sensor. The sensor was integrated with a previously reported ingestible capsule to perform amperometric measurements, providing the framework for non-invasive, in-vivo monitoring of gaseous biomarkers in the GI tract. © 2023 IEEJ.

Photodynamic therapy(PDT)is attracting attention as a next-generation cancer treatment that can selectively destroy malignant tissues,exhibit fewer side effects,and lack pain during *** PDT systems have recently been developed to resolve the issues of bulky and expensive conventional PDT systems and to implement continuous and repetitive *** implantable PDT systems,however,are not able to perform multiple functions simultaneously,such as modulating light intensity,measuring,and transmitting tumor-related data,resulting in the complexity of cancer ***,we introduce a flexible and fully implantable wireless optoelectronic system capable of continuous and effective cancer treatment by fusing PDT and hyperthermia and enabling tumor size monitoring in *** system exploits micro inorganic light-emitting diodes(μ-LED)that emit light with a wavelength of 624 nm,designed not to affect surrounding normal tissues by utilizing a fully programmable light intensity ofμ-LED and precisely monitoring the tumor size by Si phototransistor during a long-term implantation(2–3 weeks).The superiority of simultaneous cancer treatment and tumor size monitoring capabilities of our system operated by wireless power and data transmissions with a cell phone was confirmed through in vitro experiments,ray-tracing simulation results,and a tumor xenograft mouse model in *** all-in-one single system for cancer treatment offers opportunities to not only enable effective treatment of tumors located deep in the tissue but also enable precise and continuous monitoring of tumor size in real-time.
