An Opto-Electronic HfOx-Based Transparent Memristive Synapse for Neuromorphic Computing System

In this study, a transparent bilayer memristor showing both electrical and optical synapses along with good electrical properties after annealing is presented. In addition to 85% transparency, the device shows excellent electrical characteristics for 1000 cycles of stable LRS/HRS and more than 104 s retention at high temperatures. The annealed device also exhibits stable potentiation and depression cycles for more than 10 000 ac pulses with a low coefficient of nonlinearity. By applying consecutive ac pulses, synaptic properties of paired-pulse facilitation (PPF) and spike time-dependent plasticity (STDP) are calculated. The memristor is illuminated by a 405 nm light source in which different light intensities ranging from 20 to 40 mW/cm2 are used for achieving multilevel cell (MLC) characteristics. Learning/Forgetting curve (PSC) and optical PPF are measured to mimic optical synaptic function. Mathematical model of the inductive power transfer (IPT) systems is essential for stability analysis and control design. Conventional modeling approaches for IPT systems result in high-order models, as each resonant voltage or current is represented by two slowly changing real-valued variables. Alternative modeling methods may decrease the model order, but they are often plagued by drawbacks such as the absence of analytical expressions, reduced generality, and incomplete modeling. Moreover, the harmonic AC components of the IPT system are not well modeled in the existing methods, which affects the analysis accuracy and control optimality. In this paper, a harmonic transfer function (HTF) modeling of the IPT system is proposed, which has good mathematical properties and improved accuracy. First, the circuit configuration and the linear time-varying (LTV) large-signal model are proposed. Then, the derivation of the proposed HTF is comprehensively discussed. Finally, the accuracy of the proposed HTF is verified by simulation and experimental results in comparison with other representative modeling methods, which shows an improved accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper summarizes the technical activities of a three-year-long IEEE Task Force (TF) on State Estimation (SE) for Integrated Energy Systems (IES). It presents the formal definition and characteristics of IES, along with the comprehensive discussion on Electric Power Systems (EPS) model, and static and dynamic models associated with heating and natural gas systems. The paper also identifies the barriers of SE for IES, such as estimation modeling, observability analysis, and measurement requirements, together with addressing multi-scale dynamics. An extensive comparative analysis between Integrated Energy Systems-State Estimation (IES-SE) and more established Electric Power System-State Estimation (EPS-SE) is presented. The paper also provides future research needs and directions related to IES-SE. © 1969-2012 IEEE.

The wireless power transfer (WPT) technology has gained significant attention in recent years due to its potential to provide a convenient and efficient method to charging electronic devices without the need for physical connections. In wireless charging, the inductive coils are significantly important as they are the component that power transfer takes place. In this context, Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization (MOPSO) has emerged as a promising technique for designing WPT coils with improved performance. Aiming to verify the performance of the designed coil, LCC-S compensation topology was utilized as it can provide practical battery charging specifications. © 2023 IEEE.

Synchrophasor measurements are essential to realtime situational awareness of the smart grid but vulnerable to cyber-attacks during the process of transmission and *** ensure data security and mitigate the impact of spoofed synchrophasor measurements,this work proposes a novel object detection method using a Weight-based One-dimensional Convolutional Segmentation Network(WOCSN)with the ability of attack behavior identification and time *** WOCSN,automatic data feature extraction can be achieved by onedimensional convolution from the input signal,thereby reducing the impact of handcrafted features.A weight loss function is designed to distribute the contribution for normal and attack ***,attack time is located via the proposed binary method based on pixel ***,the actual synchrophasor data collected from four locations are used for the performance evaluation of the ***,combined with designed evaluation metrics,the time localization ability of WOCSN is validated in the scenarios of composite attacks with different spoofed intensities and time-sensitivities.

We discuss recent progress on several model order reduction techniques for electromagnetic particle-in-cell (EM- PIC) simulations of kinetic plasmas: Proper Orthogonal De-composition (POD), Dynamic Mode Decomposition (DMD), and Koopman autoencoder (KAE). In the past, these techniques have been employed as powerful tools for data-driven modeling of nonlinear complex systems in general. For EMPIC kinetic plasma simulations, we show that they can reduce the number of degrees of freedom by projecting the solution space into a smaller space constituted of representative spatiotemporal modes. The trade- off between accuracy and cost can be controlled, in a tunable fashion, by adjusting the number of retained modes in the reduced model. POD, DMD, and KAE reduced order models are highly desirable to enable kinetic plasma simulations at a much reduced cost and hence more efficient parameter space sweeps during optimization loops for device design. These reduced order models are also useful as diagnosis tools for better understanding of the underlying plasma dynamics through the extraction of dominant features of the solution in a hierarchical fashion. © 2023 IEEE.

Frequency selective surfaces (FSSs) are periodic arrays of conductive elements that have distinct reflection and transmission responses. In this work, an FSS sensor designed to operate in Ka-band to measure a wide range of uni-directional strain using a meander line-based unit cell is presented. Specifically, the proposed unit cell of the sensor consists of a convoluted meander line geometry designed on a thin dielectric substrate. Strain sensing is achieved by monitoring the change in the resonant frequency of the FSS when under strain that is parallel to an interrogating signal linearly polarized and aligned with the convoluted dimension of the meander line element. Simulation results of strain measurement over two ranges, small-(0%-0.5%) and large-scale (0%-5%), are presented. The simulated results indicate that the sensitivity of the sensor to small-scale strain is 21 MHz/0.1% strain and 230 MHz/1.0% strain for large-scale. © 2022 IEEE.

In this paper,a self-triggered consensus filtering is developed for a class of discrete-time distributed filtering *** from existing event-triggered filtering,the self-triggered one does not require to continuously judge the trigger condition at each sampling instant and can save computational burden while achieving good state *** triggering policy is presented for pre-computing the next execution time for measurements according to the filter’s own data and the latest released data of its neighbors at the current ***,a challenging problem is that data will be asynchronously transmitted within the filtering network because each node self-triggers ***,a co-design of the self-triggered policy and asynchronous distributed filter is developed to ensure consensus of the state ***,a numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the consensus filtering approach.

Microwave antennas are essential elements for various applications,such as telecommunication,radar,sensing,and wireless power *** antennas are conventionally manufactured on rigid substrates using opaque materials,such as metal strips,metallic tapes,or epoxy pastes;thus,prohibiting their use in flexible and wearable devices,and simultaneously limiting their integration into existing optoelectronic ***,we demonstrate that mechanically flexible and optically transparent microwave antennas with high operational efficiencies can be readily fabricated using composite nanolayers deposited on common plastic *** composite nanolayer structure consists of an ultra-thin copper-doped silver film sandwiched between two dielectric films of tantalum pentoxide and aluminum *** material and thickness of each constituent layer are judiciously selected such that the whole structure exhibits an experimentally measured averaged visible transmittance as high as 98.94%compared to a bare plastic substrate,and simultaneously,a sheet resistance as low as 12.5Ω/*** representative types of microwave antennas are implemented:an omnidirectional dipole antenna,unidirectional Yagi-Uda antenna,low-profile patch antenna,and Fabry-Pérot cavity *** devices exhibit great mechanical flexibility with bending angle over 70°,high gain of up to 13.6 dBi,and large radiation efficiency of up to 84.5%.The proposed nano-engineered composites can be easily prepared over large areas on various types of substrates and simultaneously overcome the limitations of poor mechanical flexibility,low electrical conductivity,and reduced optical transparency usually faced by other constituent materials for flexible transparent microwave *** demonstrated flexible microwave antennas have various applications ranging from fifth-generation and vehicular communication systems to bio-signal monitors and wearable electronics.
