Nowadays,transmission system operators(TSOs)encounter the challenges of securely operating power grids with high penetration of *** this context,more flexibility is needed than ever to maintain system *** rapid development of coordinated transmission and distribution technology recently,active distribution networks(ADNs)which have abundant flexible resources,have the potential to provide flexibility to the ***,an integrated transmission-distribution flexibility market is proposed in this *** the proposed framework,the energy market is first cleared to obtain baseline generation *** the baseline generation schedules are treated as inputs to the flexibility ***,the integrated flexibility market is cleared to facilitate flexibility trading between transmission and distribution *** preserve the data privacy of different market participants,an alternating direction method of multipliers(ADMM)based method is utilized to clear the markets in a distributed *** the energy market and flexibility market-clearing model,transmission network market clearing models are linear programming(LP)models,and distribution network market clearing models are second order cone programming(SOCP)*** the proposed method,only limited information is exchanged between TSO and *** studies are conducted on a revised IEEE 30-bus transmission network with two 33-node *** results demonstrate the proposed flexibility market framework can enhance competitiveness of generation companies in the transmission network and distributed generators(DGs)in the ***,flexibility purchasing cost is reduced by 17.7%compared to traditional flexibility supplied by generators according to the case study results,and ADNs can gain additional flexibility profit by providing flexibility.

Controlling an active distribution network(ADN)from a single PCC has been advantageous for improving the performance of coordinated Intermittent RESs(IRESs).Recent studies have proposed a constant PQ regulation approach at the PCC of ADNs using coordination of non-MPPT based ***,due to the intermittent nature of DGs coupled with PCC through uni-directional broadcast communication,the PCC becomes vulnerable to transient *** address this challenge,this study first presents a detailed mathematical model of an ADN from the perspective of PCC regulation to realize rigidness of PCC against ***,an H_(∞)controller is formulated and employed to achieve optimal performance against disturbances,consequently,ensuring the least oscillations during transients at ***,an eigenvalue analysis is presented to analyze convergence speed limitations of the newly derived system ***,simulation results show the proposed method offers superior performance as compared to the state-of-the-art methods.

A new ammonia (NH3) sensor based on the incorporation of an Al-doped SnO2 (ATO) thin layer and platinum (Pt) nanoparticles (NPs) is produced. The employed Pt NPs effectively enhance the ammonia sensing behaviors due to enlarged specific surface area and advanced catalytic ability of noble Pt metal. Compositional, elemental, and morphological analyses are made to check the designed structure. In the experiment, good ammonia detecting performance including an advanced sensing response of 817.2 with a small response (recovery) time of 35 s (7 s) under 1000 ppm NH3 gas and an extremely lower detectable level of 20 ppb NH3 are obtained at 275°C. Moreover, the presented sensor demonstrates prominent long-term (120 d) stability toward ammonia gas. © 1980-2012 IEEE.

microelectronics is an essential component of virtually all aspects of our daily lives. The microelectronics sector in Europe is responsible directly 200,000 and indirectly 1,000,000 high-skilled jobs and the demand for new skills is increasing. In this scenario, ECoVEM project, European Centre of Vocational Excellence in microelectronics, is a continuing work, based on an existing model for business-education collaboration of the Knowledge Alliance MECA and Sector Skills Alliance in microelectronics, both targeting tertiary education. The ECoVEM project platform targets vocational excellence on all levels of European Qualification Framework. This project aims to establish a transnational cooperation platform of Vocational Excellence in microelectronics to tackle the challenges of the: digitalization, artificial intelligence, green technologies, gender equality, and integration of migrants among others. One of these mechanisms is based on develop innovative VET curricula through Massive Open Online Courses. professional online courses serve as catalysts for individual and collective growth, driving innovation, sustainability, and inclusivity within our workforce. The direct modulation and fiber transmission performances of a bi-layer-oxide-confined 850-nm vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) containing an emission aperture size of 3.5 μm with versatile novel complex data formats are compared. With delivering quadrature amplitude modulation-orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (QAM-OFDM), generalized frequency-division multiplexing (GFDM), and discrete multi-tone (DMT) data streams, the highest data rate allowable for encoding the 3.5-μm-aperture VCSEL is demonstrated under back-to-back (BtB) and 100-m OM5-multi-mode fiber (OM5-MMF) transmissions. The newly designed 3.5-μm-aperture VCSEL contains InGaAs/AlGaAs multiple quantum wells and bi-layer-oxide-confined aperture to enhance its differential gain, reduce its thermal resistance, and improve its parasitic resistance for providing broader encoding bandwidth. Optimizing the VCSEL bias at 9 mA (11Ith) makes the lasing with three to four transverse modes suffer from a low modal dispersion effect, which also provides its 3-dB bandwidth as wide as 24.9 GHz and suppresses its RIN level to −138.0 dBc∕Hz for broadband OFDM/GFDM/DMT data encoding. By using the pre-distortion technique on the OFDM to compensate the SNR degradation, the OFDM modified with a pre-leveling slope of 0.5 dB/GHz can provide 160 Gbit/s for BtB and 140 Gbit/s for 100-m OM5-MMF transmissions. By dividing the N OFDM subcarriers into K equally-sized GFDM subcarriers and M equally-sized GFDM subsymbols, the QAM-GFDM with K = 2 can effectively enhance the out-of-band suppression to 35.9 dB and reduce the peak-to-average-power ratio to 9.7 dB, which can support 168 Gbit/s under BtB and 144 Gbit/s in 100-m OM5-MMF transmissions. To achieve the maximal spectral-usage efficiency, the DMT with the adaptive bit-loading algorithm is employed to improve the data rate up to 172 Gbit/s for BtB and 146 Gbit/s for 100-m OM5-MMF conditions. An interesting formaldehyde (HCHO) gas sensor is fabricated using a sputtered indium-gallium-zinc-oxide (IGZO) layer decorated with gold (Au) nanoparticles (NPs). Based on the use of Au NPs, the efficiently increased surface area to volume (SA/V) ratio and catalytic reactivity cause the effective enhancement of HCHO gas sensing performance. Experimentally, under 20 ppm HCHO gas, an ultrahigh sensing response of 6855 with a response (recovery) time of 30 s (13 s) is obtained for the fabricated Au NP/IGZO sensor at 225 °C. A lower detectable content of 200 ppb HCHO/air gas at 225 °C is achieved. Furthermore, an improved GM(1, 1) model is used to enhance the prediction ability and meliorate data transmission efficiency within the acceptable reduction error range. This algorithm uses preprocessing to find the starting point of a sensing response and evaluate the influence of noise. This algorithm can efficiently improve the transmission efficiency without increasing the computational complexity. The studied device also displays the advantages of a simple structure, cost-effective production, and suitable application in the internet of things (IoT). © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Intelligent automatic modulation recognition for OFDM with index modulation in underwater OWC systems

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing with index modulation (OFDM-IM) is shown to be an efficient modulation scheme for underwater optical wireless communication (UOWC) systems due to its high power efficiency and excellent flexibility. Differing from conventional OFDM, the modulation parameters of OFDM-IM consist of not only M-ary constellations but also subcarrier indices. In this Letter, we propose and demonstrate an intelligent automatic modulation recognition (AMR) scheme for OFDM-IM in UOWC systems by using Swin Transformer (Swin-T). Moreover, transfer learning with a hybrid training approach is further proposed to substantially enhance the AMR performance. Experimental results successfully demonstrate the feasibility and superiority of the proposed intelligent AMR scheme based on Swin-T with transfer learning and hybrid training in UOWC systems. More specifically, a recognition accuracy of 96% can be obtained by using Swin-T with transfer learning and hybrid training for a relatively small received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 3.6 dB. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group.
