Denoising Piecewise Constant Nanopore Signals

Nanopore sequencing signals can be described as indirect noisy observations that reflect the instantaneous conductance of the nanopore channel as an analyte DNA molecule translocates through the pore in real time, with δ nucleotides (δ-mers) blocking the pore at any instant. The sequence of overlapping δ-mers along the ssDNA molecule are thus indirectly observed as a sequence of conductance levels (i.e., a signature) that is used to characterize its DNA sequence. In this paper, we denoise piecewise constant nanopore signals drawn from the same Gaussian-output, left-to-right hidden Markov model (HMM) and recover the unknown signature that is used to parameterize the HMM. We place a Gaussian prior on the signature and use importance sampling to approximate the minimum mean-square error estimate (MMSE) of the signature given the signals. To circumvent the difficulty of sampling from the true posterior, we construct a proposal distribution from which the joint segmentation of the observed signals can be efficiently sampled in O(Mn2k) time, where M is the number of signals, n is the average duration of each signal, and k is the length of the signature. Finally, we evaluate the performance of the algorithm using both simulated and experimental nanopore signals generated by Oxford Nanopore Technologies’ (ONT) R10.4.1 nanopore. The proposed method can be effective in constructing accurate δ-mer tables used to fully characterize all the 4δ states of any nanopore sequencer. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

Failure detection is an essential task in industrial systems for preventing costly downtime and ensuring the seamlessoperation of the system. Current industrial processes are getting smarter with the emergence of Industry ***, various modernized industrial processes have been equipped with quite a few sensors to collectprocess-based data to find faults arising or prevailing in processes along with monitoring the status of *** diagnosis of rotating machines serves a main role in the engineering field and industrial production. Dueto the disadvantages of existing fault, diagnosis approaches, which greatly depend on professional experienceand human knowledge, intellectual fault diagnosis based on deep learning (DL) has attracted the researcher’sinterest. DL reaches the desired fault classification and automatic feature learning. Therefore, this article designs a Gradient Optimizer Algorithm with Hybrid Deep Learning-based Failure Detection and Classification (GOAHDLFDC)in the industrial environment. The presented GOAHDL-FDC technique initially applies continuous wavelettransform (CWT) for preprocessing the actual vibrational signals of the rotating machinery. Next, the residualnetwork (ResNet18) model was exploited for the extraction of features from the vibration signals which are thenfed into theHDLmodel for automated fault detection. Finally, theGOA-based hyperparameter tuning is performedtoadjust the parameter valuesof theHDLmodel *** experimental result analysis of the GOAHDL-FD Calgorithm takes place using a series of simulations and the experimentation outcomes highlight the better resultsof the GOAHDL-FDC technique under different aspects.

Visual question answering(VQA)is a multimodal task,involving a deep understanding of the image scene and the question’s meaning and capturing the relevant correlations between both modalities to infer the appropriate *** this paper,we propose a VQA system intended to answer yes/no questions about real-world images,in *** support a robust VQA system,we work in two directions:(1)Using deep neural networks to semantically represent the given image and question in a fine-grainedmanner,namely ResNet-152 and Gated Recurrent Units(GRU).(2)Studying the role of the utilizedmultimodal bilinear pooling fusion technique in the *** the model complexity and the overall model *** fusion techniques could significantly increase the model complexity,which seriously limits their applicability for VQA *** far,there is no evidence of how efficient these multimodal bilinear pooling fusion techniques are for VQA systems dedicated to yes/no ***,a comparative analysis is conducted between eight bilinear pooling fusion techniques,in terms of their ability to reduce themodel complexity and improve themodel performance in this case of VQA *** indicate that these multimodal bilinear pooling fusion techniques have improved the VQA model’s performance,until reaching the best performance of 89.25%.Further,experiments have proven that the number of answers in the developed VQA system is a critical factor that *** the effectiveness of these multimodal bilinear pooling techniques in achieving their main objective of reducing the model *** Multimodal Local Perception Bilinear Pooling(MLPB)technique has shown the best balance between the model complexity and its performance,for VQA systems designed to answer yes/no questions.

Latency Bounds for TSN Scheduling in the Presence of Clock Synchronization

The IEEE 802.1Qbv (80.21Qbv) standard is designed for traffic requiring deterministic and bounded latencies through strict periodic time synchronization, as specified by IEEE 802.1AS standard. However, internal clock drift in devices causes timing misalignment, introducing further challenges to 802.1Qbv scheduling. Existing solutions, using either complex optimization approaches or non-trivial scheduling heuristics, address this by scheduling frame transmissions only once they are guaranteed to have been fully received, even in the presence of clock drifts. However, this approach introduces additional delays that can impact deadline requirements. This letter analytically derives tight end-to-end latency bounds, allowing us to determine if stream deadlines for a given network will be violated without the need to solve for any scheduling algorithms. It also proposes an approach that results in tighter bounds based on information collected from the synchronization process. The analytical results are compared with simulation results, confirming their validity. © 2019 IEEE.

We study the problem of approximately transforming a sample from a source statistical model to a sample from a target statistical model without knowing the parameters of the source model, and construct several computationally efficient such reductions between canonical statistical experiments. In particular, we provide computationally efficient procedures that approximately reduce uniform, Erlang, and Laplace location models to general target families. We illustrate our methodology by establishing nonasymptotic reductions between some canonical high-dimensional problems, spanning mixtures of experts, phase retrieval, and signal denoising. Notably, the reductions are structure-preserving and can accommodate missing data. We also point to a possible application in transforming one differentially private mechanism to another. © 2025 M. MIMO performance enhancement of MIMO arrays using PCS-based near-field optimization technique

Extensive efforts have been made in designing large multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO)arrays. Nevertheless, improvements in conventional antenna characteristics cannot ensure significant MIMO performance improvement in realistic multipath environments. Array decorrelation techniques have been proposed, achieving correlation reductions by either tilting the antenna beams or shifting the phase centers away from each other. Hence, these methods are mainly limited to MIMO terminals with small arrays. To avoid such problems, this work proposes a decorrelation optimization technique based on phase correcting surface(PCS)that can be applied to large MIMO arrays, enhancing their MIMO performances in a realistic(non-isotropic)multipath environment. First, by using a near-field channel model and an optimization algorithm, a near-field phase distribution improving the MIMO capacity is obtained. Then the PCS(consisting of square elements)is used to cover the array's aperture, achieving the desired near-field phase *** examples demonstrate the effectiveness of this PCS-based near-field optimization technique. One is a1 × 4 dual-polarized patch array(working at 2.4 GHz)covered by a 2 × 4 PCS with 0.6λ center-to-center distance. The other is a 2 × 8 dual-polarized dipole array, for which a 4 × 8 PCS with 0.4λ center-to-center distance is designed. Their MIMO capacities can be effectively enhanced by 8% and 10% in single-cell and multi-cell scenarios, respectively. The PCS has insignificant effects on mutual coupling, matching, and the average radiation efficiency of the patch array, and increases the antenna gain by about 2.5 dB while keeping broadside radiations to ensure good cellular coverage, which benefits the MIMO performance of the *** proposed technique offers a new perspective for improving large MIMO arrays in realistic multipath in a statistical sense.

Robust Resource Sharing in Network Slicing via Hypothesis Testing

In network slicing, the network operator needs to satisfy the service level agreements of multiple slices at the same time and on the same physical infrastructure. To do so with reduced provisioned resources, the operator may consider resource sharing mechanisms. However, each slice then becomes susceptible to traffic surges in other slices which degrades performance isolation. To maintain both high efficiency and high isolation, we propose the introduction of hypothesis testing in resource sharing. Our approach comprises two phases. In the trial phase, the operator obtains a stochastic model for each slice that describes its normal behavior, provisions resources and then signs the service level agreements. In the regular phase, whenever there is resource contention, hypothesis testing is conducted to check which slices follow their normal behavior. Slices that fail the test are excluded from resource sharing to protect the well-behaved ones. We test our approach on a mobile traffic dataset. Results show that our approach fortifies the service level agreements against unexpected traffic patterns and achieves high efficiency via resource sharing. Overall, our approach provides an appealing tradeoff between efficiency and isolation. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

Magnesium chips were coated with a high concentration of graphite using a binder and were used as the raw material for injection molding. The microstructure of the magnesium injection-molded product with added graphite exhibited a dispersion of needle-like graphite particles. No significant voids were observed at the interfaces between the graphite and the matrix. The addition of more than 0.5 mass% graphite decreased the proof stress and tensile strength of the injection-molded products. The Young’s modulus of the graphite-added products tended to decrease with an increase in the graphite content, which is consistent with the lower limit of the rule of mixtures. The thermal conductivity of the 6.9 mass% graphite-added product increased compared with that of the AZ91D magnesium alloy and the coefficient of linear thermal expansion decreased. Both values are within a range that satisfied the rules of mixtures. © 2024 The Japan Institute of Metals and Materials.

In recent years, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have proven their effectiveness in surveillance due to their superior mobility. By utilizing multiple UAVs with collaborated learning, surveillance of a huge area while consuming minimum resources is possible. However, the performance of UAV collaborative learning systems is still severely limited because the number of parameters in a classical NN is generally very large, which is unsuitable for unstable wireless communication. To address this issue, this paper uses a quantum neural network (QNN), which has large computational capabilities and uses fewer parameters to overcome the problems caused by many parameters. However, it is still difficult to send all the parameters of the QNN to the server under poor channel conditions. Therefore, this paper proposes dynamic quantum federated learning (DQFL), a novel framework designed for UAVs employing quantum computing (QC) and federated learning (FL). The proposed DQFL uses a dynamic quantum neural network (DQNN) with a multi-depth circuit and employs dynamic control of the circuit layer to improve the efficiency of local parameter transmission between UAVs in unstable wireless communication environments. Extensive simulations conducted under real-world autonomous surveillance conditions demonstrate the robustness of DQFL to non-iidness, varying signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs), and poor communication channel conditions in the UAV environment. © 1967-2012 IEEE.
