A Hybrid Data-Driven Approach Integrating Temporal Fusion Transformer and Soft Actor-Critic Algorithm for Optimal Scheduling of Building Integrated Energy Systems

Building integrated energy systems (BIESs) are pivotal for enhancing energy efficiency by accounting for a significant proportion of global energy consumption. Two key barriers that reduce the BIES operational efficiency mainly lie in the renewable generation uncertainty and operational non-convexity of combined heat and power (CHP) units. To this end, this paper proposes a soft actor-critic (SAC) algorithm to solve the scheduling problem of BIES, which overcomes the model non-convexity and shows advantages in robustness and generalization. This paper also adopts a temporal fusion transformer (TFT) to enhance the optimal solution for the SAC algorithm by forecasting the renewable generation and energy demand. The TFT can effectively capture the complex temporal patterns and dependencies that span multiple steps. Furthermore, its forecasting results are interpretable due to the employment of a self-attention layer so as to assist in more trustworthy decision-making in the SAC algorithm. The proposed hybrid data-driven approach integrating TFT and SAC algorithm, i.e., TFT-SAC approach, is trained and tested on a real-world dataset to validate its superior performance in reducing the energy cost and computational time compared with the benchmark approaches. The generalization performance for the scheduling policy, as well as the sensitivity analysis, are examined in the case studies. © 2013 State Grid Electric Power Research Institute.

This paper presents the design of a dual-polarized frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar system with a coupler-integrated lens antenna for automotive synthetic aperture radar (SAR) applications. High-resolution radar imaging is imperative for automotive use, with dual-polarized SAR imaging providing robust support in achieving this objective. However, exploration of the system design for dual-polarized FMCW SAR systems has been limited. The paper outlines the design of the aforementioned radar system, emphasizing its suitability for automotive SAR applications. It details the requisite parameters for dual-polarized automotive SAR systems and the design considerations for the dual-polarized lens antenna. Additionally, it proposes a radar signal monitoring method employing a coupler-integrated antenna to detect the radiated radar signal. Furthermore, a dual-polarization synthesis method is introduced to enhance SAR image quality. Experimental validation of the implemented dual-polarized FMCW radar with a coupler-integrated lens antenna confirms the effectiveness of the proposed system design. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

Stable switching behavior of low-temperature ZrO_(2)RRAM devices realized by combustion synthesis-assisted photopatterning

We have realized efficient photopatterning and high-quality ZrO_(2)films through combustion synthesis and manufactured resistive random access memory(RRAM)devices with excellent switching stability at low temperatures(250℃)using these *** synthesis reduces the energy required for oxide conversion,thus accelerating the decomposition of organic ligands in the UV-exposed area,and promoting the formation of metal-oxygen networks,contributing to *** analysis confirmed a reduction in the conversion temperature of combustion precursors,and the prepared combustion ZrO_(2)films exhibited a high proportion of metal-oxygen bonding that constitutes the oxide lattice,along with an amorphous ***,the synergistic effect of combustion synthesis and UV/O_(3)-assisted photochemical activation resulted in patterned ZrO_(2)films forming even more complete metal-oxygen *** devices fabricated with patterned ZrO_(2)films using combustion synthesis exhibited excellent switching characteristics,including a narrow resistance distribution,endurance of 103 cycles,and retention for 105 s at 85℃,despite low-temperature *** synthesis not only enables the formation of high-quality metal oxide films with low external energy but also facilitates improved photopatterning.

SMART: Self-Morphing Adaptive Replanning Tree

The letter presents an algorithm, called Self-Morphing Adaptive Replanning Tree (SMART), that facilitates fast replanning in dynamic environments. SMART performs risk-based tree-pruning if the current path is obstructed by nearby moving obstacle(s), resulting in multiple disjoint subtrees. Then, for speedy recovery, it exploits these subtrees and performs informed tree-repair at hot-spots that lie at the intersection of subtrees to find a new path. The performance of SMART is comparatively evaluated with eight existing algorithms through extensive simulations. Two scenarios are considered with: 1) dynamic obstacles and 2) both static and dynamic obstacles. The results show that SMART yields significant improvements in replanning time, success rate, and travel time. Finally, the performance of SMART is validated by a real laboratory experiment. © 2016 IEEE.

This article studies a new stator-permanent magnet (PM) motor with flux-switching (FS) and flux-reversal (FR) effects synergies. The proposed structure benefits from the splitting stator pole PMs and consequent-pole FRPM, which reduces the PM utilization compared to the conventional ones. Also, the proposed structure is optimized by a random search multiobjective algorithm to attain the structure with the highest output torque and minimum torque ripple. Additionally, the proposed motor is compared to a conventional FSPM to investigate the advantages of the main motor. Using finite element analysis (FEA) studies, the flux density distribution results show that the FR effect lowers the saturation risk compared to FSPM. Also, the back-EMF generation of the proposed motor has improved by 135% compared to its benchmark. Correspondingly, fullload results show that the proposed topology has enhanced the average torque by 75% and deteriorated the ripple by about 55% compared to FSPM. Therefore, the proposed structure offers a profitable for high torque density applications. © 2025 IEEE.

Silicon carbide (SiC) based inverters are widely used due to their fast switching and ability to withstand high temperatures and Voltage. This helps to increase efficiency and reduces switching losses compared to the silicon-based inverter. However, this fast-switching device causes an increase in the Voltage at the junction of the cable and motor due to the reflected wave. The main causes of overvoltage are cable/motor impedance mismatch, fast-switching inverter devices (IGBT), and inverter-motor separation. To extend the induction motor lifespan, overvoltage reduction is necessary. Passive and active filters solve the problem, but passive filters are bulky and have high power loss. This paper presents a shunt active filter approach for an inverter-fed induction motor to reduce overvoltage. To show the effectiveness of the proposed approach, the findings were compared to the topology of the clamp-type active filter already in use. The shunt active filter used Proportional Integral (PI) and fuzzy controllers to generate reference current according to the Synchronous Reference Frame (SRF) theory. Harmonics in the power system were removed using the SRF theory. The unique aspect of this work is how the reference current is produced in the shunt active filter using the SRF theory. The proposed shunt active filter with a fuzzy controller was added to the hardware implementation to achieve better results than previous active filters. ©, Engineers Australia.

Integrating solar photovoltaic (PV), wind, and battery storage (BS) systems into the grid introduces significant power quality (PQ) challenges. In particular, the intermittent nature of solar PV and wind energy systems (WES), combined with nonlinear loads, can lead to grid instability. As a result, maintaining a reliable and high-quality power supply to consumers becomes a substantial challenge. This article presents two novel solutions to address these challenges: the anti-windup mixed-order generalized integrator (AWMOGI) and the adaptive delay operation period filter (ADOPF). The AWMOGI effectively extracts fundamental components from distorted utility grid voltages, minimizing DC offset and reducing steady-state oscillations. Meanwhile, the ADOPF swiftly captures positive sequence voltage components by introducing a two-sampling-interval delay in the d-q coordinate system. The hierarchical-loop controller parameters are optimized using a customized Harris Hawks Optimization (HHO) algorithm, which enhances error reduction and facilitates rapid establishment of reference values for DC-link voltage loop control. An adaptive dynamic power management scheme also enables the microgrid (MG) to manage surplus power from MG sources, reducing stress on the BS and ensuring DC-link voltage stability. The experimental results demonstrate significant improvements in handling utility grid abnormalities, dynamic loads, and intermittent microgrid source operation. The experimental results show a zero DC-off set and steady-state errors, a fast computational time of 35e-5s, and the THD of grid currents of 3.16%, which complies with the IEEE 519 standards. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

This research allows the secure surveillance approach for the Internet of Things (IoT) methodology to be developed by integrating wireless signalling and image encryption strategy. Since the Cloud Service Telco (CST) is a semi-trusted body in cloud services, user data is encrypted before uploading to a cloud server for data protection from disclosure. The flexibility of encrypted data sharing is essential for cloud storage users. This study investigates the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) technique with modified Huffman compression and Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC). It encrypts and decrypts the data and enhances industrial security surveillance in transmission. It uses the wireless network’s next generation (5G or 6G) as uplink Single Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access (SC-FDMA) strategies via the IoT. This study presented a novel approach to proposing hardware architecture for a secure web camera integrated with the Atmel in the mega AVR family (ATMEGA) microcontroller, suitable for IoT applications. The experimental results confirm the proposed model’s efficacy compared with existing robustness and security analysis algorithms. These systems are also used by implementing industry-standard protocols using IoTs to monitor industrial applications. The proposed framework can also minimise bandwidth, transmission cost, storage space, tracking data, and decisions about abnormal events such as potential fraud and extinguisher detection in surveilling applications. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.
