Between 2015 and 2018, hourly generation, demand, price and weather data for Spain were collected from Kaggle. This dataset encompassed various sources of generation, including fossil fuels such as coal, gas, and oil, as well as renewable sources like wind, solar, hydro, and biomass. Analyzing this dataset, we aimed to uncover the key factors influencing electricity prices in Spain. To achieve this, we employed the Maximum Relevance-Minimum Redundancy Algorithm to identify the most significant features for predicting electricity prices in 2018. Subsequently, we explored the effectiveness of three machine learning methods - Decision Tree, Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Ensemble - in forecasting electricity prices. Evaluation of model performance was conducted using mean absolute error (MAE), mean squared error (MSE), root mean squared error (RMSE), and the coefficient of determination (R2). Our findings revealed that the Ensemble model outperformed Decision Trees and SVM, exhibiting an MAE of 3.07, MSE of 21.47, RMSE of 4.63, and an R2 of 0.90. This suggests a strong fit between predicted and observed electricity prices. Moving forward, future research will delve into exploring the techno-economic impact of Dynamic Line Rating (DLR) on the reliability of electricity supply.

Modeling of a DVB-S2 Transmission Chain with Optimization of Adjustment Parameters for a Good Quality of the Reception Signal

Digital television is part of our daily lives. We took an interest in the DVB-S2 standard in particular, because it is the one that governs the transmission by satellite of multimedia content from television programs. With ever-changing user needs, there are new challenges that the DVB-S2 standard is no longer able to meet due to errors caused by weather and hardware limitations. The main purpose of a satellite TV transmission is to obtain a video signal in reception of the best possible quality and at a high bit rate. It is therefore important to determine all the factors which could intervene in the process of transmission and which have a negative impact on the yield at the reception of the signal. We therefore designed and simulated the DVB-S and DVB-S2 transmission chains with QPSK modulation (and an FEC coding rate of 1/2), on MATLAB software (Simulink), and with an AWGN channel for the sake of comparison performance between these two chains. Then we carried out the design of the DVB-S2 transmission chain with an RF (Radio Frequency) satellite channel, by materializing all the elements which intervene in the downlink to evaluate the performance of this chain according to the factors which influence and/or degrade the signal quality between transmission and reception at the receiving earth station. The main results obtained relate to the DVB-S2 transmission chain and were interpreted using the visualization of the error rate blocks: With an AWGN channel, increasing the signal-to-noise ratio decreases the rate of erroneous packets and therefore improves the quality of the received signal. With an RF satellite channel on the downlink: increasing the transmit power improves the receive performance, this is useful for correcting most RF imperfections;having larger parabolic antennas is an advantage because they have greater gains;this makes it possible to minimize the rate of erroneous packets. One of the most popular chemical tests for power transformer incipient faults detection is the dissolved gas analysis (DGA). This study presents a new DGA approach for transformer fault interpretation with increased accuracy. The suggested approach is constructed based on the combination of the outputs of the two recently developed DGA techniques;1) conditional probability and 2) artificial neural network, with two scenarios. These scenarios based on the diagnosis of the same techniques;artificial neural network (ANN) and Conditional probability techniques but with different procedures. This presented approach improved the overall accuracy compared with the existing DGA techniques. The positive feature of the proposed approach is proven by using 240 datasets received from the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) with known faults. The proposed approach concluded that the integration between different DGA techniques with various fault accuracy improves the overall accuracy of fault detection. The suggested fault diagnosis approach, with the two scenarios, exhibited higher accuracy compared to both ANN and conditional probability technique. Also, 42 samples have been used as testing samples for validating the proposed DGA approach, which result in its superiority compared to ANN and conditional probability technique. © 2022 IEEE.

Complex problem solving is identified as a top skill required to thrive in the 4th Industrial Revolution, and it is emphasized in the engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) Standard 12 Graduate Attributes. However, in many cases, engineering programmes lack a clear understanding of the requirements of complex engineering problems, hindering the students' mastery of problem-solving skills for real-world readiness. This paper aims to study the current implementation of complex problem solving (CEP) and complex engineering activities (CEA) in Malaysian engineering programmes. Survey questionnaires were designed to gather feedback from academicians across various institutes of higher learning (IHLs) that offer engineering programmes. The conducted test indicates that the survey instrument is reliable (Cronbach Alpha value of 0.800). The initial findings from a pilot study involving 30 respondents from 10 IHLs show that common courses chosen to address CEP and CEA are the final year project, integrated design project, and other design courses. The majority of CEP and CEA assessments are conducted on a semesterly basis, utilizing project-based assessment. Problem-based learning (PBL) is the most widely chosen teaching and learning strategy, engaging students in solving real-world problems, encouraging active participation, critical thinking, and the application of knowledge. Further research could explore the effectiveness and impact of these teaching and learning strategies on students' learning outcomes, problem-solving abilities, and their abilities to apply CEPS and CEA principles in real-world scenarios. © 2023 IEEE.

We reviewed the application of modern technology for rapid and accurate multi-person real-time pose detection in the hazardous field of electrical engineering. We focused on two leading pose detection technologies: YOLOv8 and OpenPose. This paper characterizes the graphical properties of an optimal topology with minimal Laplacian energy under the constraint of fixed numbers of vertices and edges, and devises an algorithm to construct such connected optimal graphs. These constructed graphs possess maximum vertex and edge connectivity, and more importantly, generically exhibit large algebraic connectivity of an optimal order provided they are not sparse. These properties guarantee fast and resilient consensus processes over these graphs.

The planar transformer shows excellent benefits when applied in a high efficiency and high power density LLC converter with increased common-mode (CM) noise caused by the large interwinding capacitances. For the shielding design of a half-bridge (HB) LLC converter with a full-bridge rectifier(FBR), it is essential to find the static-electric-potential (SEP) point in the physical primary or secondary windings. With the proper design of the ground connection of shielding winding, the voltage potential difference between shielding winding and primary/secondary windings is minimized, and the net displacement CM current diminishes. In this paper, the analysis of the SEP point of different transformers for the HBLLC converter with a FBR was discussed, and the net CM current under different ground connection strategies of shielding winding was compared. The CM noises of different strategies are measured based on a 1.5kW HBLLC converter with FBR hardware platform. The EMI measurement results show that it can attenuate the CM noise by 20 dB or more with proper shielding design.

Continuous collection of users' ordinal data is essential to numerous industrial applications, such as disease surveillance, road traffic analysis, and computation offloading. However, the data collector is not fully-trusted, so that the necessitate privacy protection on the sensitive ordinate data streams of users becomes critical. Local Differential Privacy (LDP) is typically used to resolve this problem with high efficiency for real-time data analysis. However, existing LDP methods are mainly designed for one-time data collection, and they bring low utility in some time slots for continuous collection, due to the data sparsity problem that some users' data are empty in most of time slots. Therefore, we propose a Condensed LDP (CLDP)-based scheme, which provides real-time statistics with the protection of each user's time-series data and the high utility in each time slot. First, our scheme optimizes the utility by allocating each user's privacy budget in the time dimension. The privacy budgets originally used in empty time slots are saved and allocated to non-empty time slots for every user, so as to increase the utility in each time slot. Then, CLDP is used to further counteract the negative impact of data sparsity. Finally, privacy analysis is given to show the privacy protection of data streams, and sufficient experiments on real datasets are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. © 2022 IEEE.

In this paper, we develop a six-dimensional movable antenna (6DMA) enhanced multi-access point (AP) coordination system for coverage enhancement and interference mitigation. First, we model the wireless channels between the APs and UTs to characterize their variation with respect to 6DMA movement, in terms of both the three-dimensional (3D) position and 3D orientation of each distributed AP's antenna. Then, an optimization problem is formulated to maximize the weighted sum rate of multiple UTs for their uplink transmissions by jointly optimizing the antenna position vector (APV), the antenna orientation matrix (AOM), and the receive combining matrix over all coordinated APs, subject to the constraints on local antenna movement regions. To solve this challenging non-convex optimization problem, we first transform it into a more tractable Lagrangian dual problem. Then, an alternating optimization (AO)-based algorithm is developed by iteratively optimizing the APV and AOM, which are designed by applying the successive convex approximation (SCA) technique and Riemannian manifold optimization-based algorithm, respectively. Simulation results show that the proposed 6DMA-enhanced multi-AP coordination system can significantly enhance network capacity, and can attain considerable performance improvement compared to the conventional fixed antenna (FA)-based schemes.

Decentralized federated learning (D-FL) allows clients to aggregate learning models locally, offering flexibility and scalability. Existing D-FL methods use gossip protocols, which are inefficient when not all nodes in the network are DFL clients. This paper puts forth a new D-FL strategy, termed Route-and-Aggregate (R&A) D-FL, where participating clients exchange models with their peers through established routes (as opposed to flooding) and adaptively normalize their aggregation coefficients to compensate for communication errors. The impact of routing and imperfect links on the convergence of R&A D-FL is analyzed, revealing that convergence is minimized when routes with the minimum end-to-end packet error rates are employed to deliver models. Our analysis is experimentally validated through three image classification tasks and two next-word prediction tasks, utilizing widely recognized datasets and models. R&A DFL outperforms the flooding-based D-FL method in terms of training accuracy by 35% in our tested 10-client network, and shows strong synergy between D-FL and networking. In another test with 10 D-FL clients, the training accuracy of R&A D-FL with communication errors approaches that of the ideal C-FL without communication errors, as the number of routing nodes (i.e., nodes that do not participate in the training of D-FL) rises to 28.
