This paper aims at developing a clustering approach with spectral images directly from CASSI compressive measurements. The proposed clustering method first assumes that compressed measurements lie in the union of multiple low-dimensional subspaces. Therefore, sparse subspace clustering (SSC) is an unsupervised method that assigns compressed measurements to their respective subspaces. In addition, a 3D spatial regularizer is added into the SSC problem, thus taking full advantages of the spatial information contained in spectral images. The performance of the proposed spectral image clustering approach is improved by taking optimal CASSI measurements obtained when optimal coded apertures are used in CASSI system. Simulation with one real dataset illustrates the accuracy of the proposed spectral image clustering approach. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This paper presents a visual and inertial measurements fusion scheme to estimate the relative attitude when the cabin and the virtual glasses in it are both free to move. A Euler angle filter is designed when the cabin rotation rate can be provided with high frequency. Another orientation error filter is developed when only the cabin attitude can be obtained. Both of these algorithms are based on low cost MEMS inertial measurement unit, experiment has proved that the relative attitude can be fast and accurately estimated. The main advantages are the measurement noise can be well suppressed and the relative attitude estimation can be continuous even though the glasses are invisible to the optical tracking system.

In this paper, a computational study is carried out in order to assess the impacts of the wind power generation on dynamic behavior in the power system concerned by a modelling simulation. The concepts of different types of wind turbine generators (WTGs) and the principles of the grid-connected structures of wind power generation systems are first briefly introduced. The Electrical Network used for the investigations comes from the IEEE. A change was made to include the Wind Power system with Wind Power Generators in Bar 2, as described later. As a comparison, the paper reports the results of several tests by using different WTG technologies, evaluating the corresponding performance under the occurrence of the same kind of fault. © 2018 IEEE.

Single grit grinding is the simplified model to abstract the macro scale *** element analysis is a strong tool to study the physical fields during a single grit grinding process,compared to experimental *** on the dynamic mechanical behavior of 2Cr12Ni4Mo3VNbN steel and the mathematical statistics of abrasive grit,modeling of the single grit grinding process was conducted by using commercial software *** validation experiment was designed to validate the correctness of the FEA model by contrast with grinding *** validation result shows that the FEA model can well describe the single grit grinding *** the grinding force and multi-physics fields were studied by experimental and simulation *** was found that both the normal and tangential grinding forces were linearly related to the cutting speed and cutting *** maximum temperature is located in the subsurface of the workpiece in front of the grit,while the maximum stress and strain are located under the grit *** strain rate can reach as high as about 106 s–1 during the single grit grinding,which is larger than other traditional machining operations.

A gradient algorithm for Hamiltonian identification of open quantum systems

In this paper, we present a gradient algorithm for identifying unknown parameters in an open quantum system from the measurements of time traces of local observables. The open system dynamics is described by a general Markovian master equation based on which the Hamiltonian identification problem can be formulated as minimizing the distance between the real time traces of the observables and those predicted by the master equation. The unknown parameters can then be learned with a gradient descent algorithm from the measurement data. We verify the effectiveness of our algorithm in a circuit QED system described by a Jaynes-Cumming model whose Hamiltonian identification has been rarely considered. We also show that our gradient algorithm can learn the spectrum of a non-Markovian environment based on an augmented system model. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This paper presents a novel incentivizing strategy for a demand response (DR) aggregator to participate in an intra-day market organized by the grid operator (GO). By taking the market entry criterion into consideration, the proposed incentivizing strategy is able to help the aggregator determine the optimal incentive for each customer based on their identified characteristics or preferences. The hierarchical decision making procedure between the aggregator and customers is casted into a Stackelberg game. In accordance, an optimal incentivizing strategy can be ascertained for the aggregator, which further helps the aggregator elicit optimal load reductions from enrolled customers meanwhile maximizing its potential profit. Simulation results show that the proposed incentivizing strategy is effective in helping the aggregator determine optimal incentive for each customer in face of different external factors.

An understanding of marine ecosystems and their biodiversity is relevant to sustainable use of the goods and services they offer. Since marine areas host complex ecosystems, it is important to develop spatially widespread monitoring networks capable of providing large amounts of multiparametric information, encompassing both biotic and abiotic variables, and describing the ecological dynamics of the observed species. In this context, imaging devices are valuable tools that complement other biological and oceanographic monitoring devices. Nevertheless, large amounts of images or movies cannot all be manually processed, and autonomous routines for recognizing the relevant content, classification, and tagging are urgently needed. In this work, we propose a pipeline for the analysis of visual data that integrates video/image annotation tools for defining, training, and validation of datasets with video/image enhancement and machine and deep learning approaches. Such a pipeline is required to achieve good performance in the recognition and classification tasks of mobile and sessile megafauna, in order to obtain integrated information on spatial distribution and temporal dynamics. A prototype implementation of the analysis pipeline is provided in the context of deep-sea videos taken by one of the fixed cameras at the LoVe Ocean Observatory network of Lofoten Islands (Norway) at 260 m depth, in the Barents Sea, which has shown good classification results on an independent test dataset with an accuracy value of 76.18% and an area under the curve (AUC) value of 87.59%.

An accurate and computationally efficient model for the deformation of brain tissue is very important in virtual neurosurgical simulation. In this paper, we introduced a new Finite Element Method(FEM) model, which is based on optimization implicit Euler method, for brain tissue deformation. Specifically, both the anisotropic and viscoelastic properties of brain tissue are incorporated into the model, providing more realistic and accurate description of the mechanical features of brain tissue. In the meantime, the model is particularly suitable for GPU-based computing, making it possible to achieve real-time performance for neurosurgical simulation. Simulation results show that the deformation model exhibits the behaviors of anisotropy and viscoelasticity. The proposed model was implemented on a neurosurgical simulator and it showed that the deformation of brain tissue can be rendered with a relatively high degree of visual realism at a refreshment rate of 23 frames per second in a normal PC.

We consider the problem of semi-global leader-following output consensus for a group of agents, consisting of a leader agent and some follower agents, which are described by discrete-time linear systems and connected on a directed network. For each follower agent, a distributed observer is built that estimates the state of the leader. Based on the estimates of the leader state and the solution of a parameterized algebraic Riccati equation, we design low gain consensus protocols that are shown to solve the semi-global output consensus problem as long as the leader agent is reachable globally on the network. Numerical simulation shows the performance of the proposed consensus protocols. © 2018 IEEE.
