Based on the battery charging and discharging regulator (BCDR) in spacecraft power conditioning unit application, a bidirectional DC-DC converter BCDR with high direction-changing frequency is proposed in this paper, including the Weinberg-buck bidirectional DC-DC topology and the corresponding bidirectional control. Additionally, the test on the BCDR prototype shows that BCDR parallel modules could achieve the quick switching between charging and discharging with the direction-changing frequency meeting the requirement of 1 kHz, the regulated power bus of small voltage ripple, and high charging and discharging efficiency, in agreement with the expected design.

The purpose of this paper is to assess the economic impact following as a result of the conversion of conventional stations to cogeneration plants connected to a system for distributing heat and refrigeration. The analysis will be carried out through a financial evaluation in order to assess yearly variations of the whole scheme expenditure. In particular, yearly capital and operating costs of supplying cold and heat to urban areas that represent weather conditions in northern, central, and southern Europe were studied. In the base case scenario, today conditions are represented;they will be compared with alternative scenarios in which existing conventional thermal power stations will be converted into cogeneration plants. This research work contributes to the pool of existing knowledge by giving a (so far not addressed) weather centered system perspective. From the conducted evaluation, it was found that, in the case of deciding to convert the studied conventional thermal plants into cogeneration plants, investing in the necessary infrastructure associated means that yearly expenses for the power plants located in Oldenburg-Wilhelmshaven, Bristol, and Cartagena would decrease by 215, 89, and 192 million euros respectively, making this technology a highly attractive option from economic, energetic, and environmental perspectives. © 2016 Infonomics Society.

The aim of this research is to identify actions that dissipate the institutional and financial barriers that are faced by those energy projects which comprise the joint use of district heating networks and cogeneration in the EU-28. From this evaluation, institutional and financial barriers were identified, which included: distinctive competence, fuel price volatility, and much of the current regulatory framework. In order to achieve an effective removal of these barriers, and apart from generic and common actions to all the schemes, such as creating anchor loads, adopting an active marketing strategy by the local authorities, or the proposition of updating some communitarian directives on energy issues;it is also necessary to adopt those actions that respond to the casuistry of each Member State. Such actions will ultimately represent the most effective way to get a generalised implementation of energy projects that include a joint use of district heating networks and cogeneration. © 2016 Infonomics Society.

A nonlinear observer model of a grinding mill is developed. The model distinguishes between the volumetric hold-up of water, solids, rocks and balls in the mill, where solids are all ore small enough to discharge through the end-discharge grate, and rocks are all ore too large to discharge. The model includes the discharge rate, abrasion rate of rocks and the abrasion rate of balls as parameters. It is shown that with mill discharge flow-rate, discharge density and volumetric hold-up measurements the model states and parameters are locally (weakly) nonlinearly observable, but not linearly observable. Although instrumentation at the mill discharge is not yet included in industrial circuits because of space restrictions, this study motivates the benefits to be gained from including instrumentation at the mill discharge. If mills are fitted with adequate measurement instrumentation at the discharge, important mill states and parameters can be estimated. © 2016

To reduce the overflow of the wastewater and high expense caused by redundant arrangement of the stations of pumps in the urban drainage system,a hybrid logistic optimization model is proposed to choose the locations of pump stations and the corresponding optimal control algorithm is also developed in this *** inflow in the conduit from rainfall is estimated based on rainfall-runoff model and meanwhile the performance of the pump is described by the nonlinear pump *** determining the optimal pump locations by the optimization algorithm,this paper further studies the energy saving optimal control of the *** taking both the position and the working situation of the pumps into consideration,the energy consumption of the system and the frequency of overflow can be brought down effectively.

This paper studies the problem of global stabilization of multiple integrator systems using event-triggered bounded controls. The linear system is described by a chain of integrators of arbitrary length n. A switching event-triggered bounded control law is constructed. This control law switches among a sequence of n event-triggered control laws. A switching strategy is designed for the selection of an individual event-triggered control law and an event-triggering strategy is designed for updating the control value of each of these control laws. This switching event-triggered control law is shown to achieve global asymptotic stabilization. The absence of the Zeno behavior is also established. Simulation results are given to illustrate the theoretical results.

Two important issues in evolutionary game theory are to understand the mechanisms of how peer pressure can promote cooperation among large scale of self-interested individuals, and how Pigouvian tax with peer-information and social mechanism can avoid the tragedy of the commons. We propose and compare two models based on game. In Pigouvian tax with peer-information model, individuals with cooperation behaviors receive rewards and their opponents are noticed with this information. Thus the peer pressure promotes the opponents with defection behaviors to cooperate intuitively. While in social mechanism model, individuals receive rewards cooperation behaviors and peer pressure. The effect of social mechanism depends on the level of social relationship. We find the enhancement of cooperation of both mechanisms in high level of peer pressure. Furthermore, we find the phenomenon of retaliatory action in weak ties between individuals in social mechanism model. We provide computational and heuristic arguments to establish these findings.

In sheet metal industries, press-formed sheet elements are usually adhesively bonded together at the final stage of assembly. Instead of such a conventional process, the present authors proposed a new technique that first flat sheets are adhesively bonded together and then press-formed into the final products [1]. In previous study, the problem of the die-bending (V-bending and hat-shaped bending) with symmetrical shape has studied. In this study, asymmetric-shaped bending of adhesively bonded sheet metals was investigated by experiments and FEM analysis method. In the case of asymmetric-shaped bending, it was found that the timing of contact from the die corner to the die hypotenuse is early in the press-forming process compared with symmetrical bending (V-bending and hat-shaped bending). For the FEM analysis results, the maximum shear strain in asymmetric-shaped bending was smaller than that in symmetric-shaped bending at the hat-shaped side. Thus, the shape of the die has a large influence on the die-bending of adhesively bonded sheet metals. © 2017 Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

This paper is concerned with the semi-global output synchronization problem of a heterogeneous network under event-triggered control mechanism. A distributed event-triggered scheme is proposed in this paper. The Zeno behavior can also be excluded in the designed scheme. By adopting the low-gain technique, it is shown that the input saturation nonlinearity can be avoided if the parameter of the parameterized feedback gain is chosen small enough. A simulation example is provided to validate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

In this work, we report the set-up and results of the Liver Tumor Segmentation Benchmark (LiTS), which was organized in conjunction with the IEEE International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging (ISBI) 2017 and the International Conferences on Medical Image Computing and Computer-Assisted Intervention (MICCAI) 2017 and 2018. The image dataset is diverse and contains primary and secondary tumors with varied sizes and appearances with various lesion-to-background levels (hyper-/hypo-dense), created in collaboration with seven hospitals and research institutions. Seventy-five submitted liver and liver tumor segmentation algorithms were trained on a set of 131 computed tomography (CT) volumes and were tested on 70 unseen test images acquired from different patients. We found that not a single algorithm performed best for both liver and liver tumors in the three events. The best liver segmentation algorithm achieved a Dice score of 0.963, whereas, for tumor segmentation, the best algorithms achieved Dices scores of 0.674 (ISBI 2017), 0.702 (MICCAI 2017), and 0.739 (MICCAI 2018). Retrospectively, we performed additional analysis on liver tumor detection and revealed that not all top-performing segmentation algorithms worked well for tumor detection. The best liver tumor detection method achieved a lesion-wise recall of 0.458 (ISBI 2017), 0.515 (MICCAI 2017), and 0.554 (MICCAI 2018), indicating the need for further research.
