This paper presents the MATLAB simulation framework, DiSC, for verifying voltage control approaches in power distribution systems. It consists of real consumption data, stochastic models of renewable resources, flexible assets, electrical grid, and models of the underlying communication channels. The simulation framework makes it possible to validate control approaches, and thus advance realistic and robust control algorithms for distribution system voltage control. Two examples demonstrate the potential voltage issues from penetration of renewables in the distribution grid, along with simple control solutions to alleviate them.

A direct model reference adaptive controller for dissolved oxygen reference trajectory tracking in an aerobic reactor for nutrient removal at the activated sludge wastewater treatment plant is proposed and investigated. The reference trajectory is prescribed on-line by an upper control layer of the plant overall controlsystem. The controller design utilises a different time scales in the internal dissolved oxygen dynamic and disturbance inputs. The controller is validated by simulation using real data records.

This paper revisits the problem of estimating the domain of attraction of a saturated system with an algebraic loop. A piecewise quadratic Lyapunov function of an augmented state vector composing of the system state and the saturated input has been proposed for use in estimating the domain of attraction for a saturated system. Considering the relationship between the system states and the saturation function, we propose in this paper a generalized piecewise quadratic Lyapunov function, which results from adding a term that characterizes the regional sector condition of the saturated input to the piecewise quadratic Lypunov function. The matrix associated with the generalized piecewise quadratic Lyapunov function is not required to be positive definite, and thus a set of less conservative stability conditions are established, from which a larger estimate of the domain of attraction can be obtained. Simulation results indicate that the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method.

This paper describes a super high-speed vision platform (HSVP) that can process a 12-bit, gray level, 1024×1024 image at 12500 frames per second (fps) simultaneously by implementing parallel hardware logic on a large size field programmable gate array (FPGA) platform. Multiple experimental results demonstrate that our platform can calculate a 4096-level brightness-histogram and 4096-level edge-intensity-histogram for 1024×1024 images at 12500 fps, including the zeroth and first moment features for centroid calculation.

Formation-containment analysis and design problems for high-order time-delayed linear time-invariant swarm systems with directed interaction topologies are studied respectively. Firstly, protocols with time delays are presented for leaders and followers respectively, where the formation for leaders can be time-varying. Then formation-containment problems for timedelayed swarm systems are transformed into asymptotic stability problems. Sufficient conditions for swarm systems to achieve formation-containment are proposed, which include eight linear matrix inequalities independent of the number of leaders and followers. Furthermore, an explicit expression of the formation reference function for leaders is derived, where the motion modes of formation reference can be specified. An approach to determine the gain matrices in the protocols is given using the method of changing variables. Finally, numerical simulations are provided to demonstrate theoretical results.

This paper presents analysis and control of D converter, which has continuous input and output current to obtain maximum power transfer from a photovoltaic (PV) system. Examining the maximum power involves optimization and control techniques that ensure maximum power extraction enhancement. Traditional converters have rather high input ripple current that originates considerable loss of power extraction when linked to photovoltaic panels. Operating with zero input ripple current enlarges the power obtained from the PV panel without employing electrolytic capacitor. Experiment and simulation of the converter performance support and extol the system concept and establish a balanced view among several types of used controllers as well.
