A novel method for fingerprint singular points extraction including location and orientation is proposed based on some properties of the orientation field models. Singular points are located by clustering the results of corner detection. Then, through examining the sub-block orientation fields at a number of selected positions on concentric circles centered about the located singular point, an iterative method based on the orientation differences is proposed to compute the orientation of the core point. Experimental results on NIST4 and FVC2002 four databases demonstrate the proposed method can consistently locate singular points with the high accuracy. The location and orientation of the detected singular points can be used for alignment (translation and rotation) parameters in fingerprint matching.

To monitor the structural health of civil and mega mechanical structures, a wired sensor system is been used traditionally. From an economical and a maintenance point of view, the traditional wired SHM systems have limitations when used in offshore wind turbine, wave energy devices and other civil structures. Wireless sensor is getting importance because of its low price and suitability for mentioned applications. Commercially the available wireless sensor systems for SHM are expensive;hence there is a need of cheap wireless sensor network. A low cost wireless sensor network (WSN) for a Health Monitoring of these structures is proposed in this work. This work is divided into two tasks one, design of wireless sensor units (WSU). To measure the response of the system a WSU is designed by using available standard electronic components. This WSU consists of one acceleration senor, micro-controller, a radio frequency (RF) transceiver, and a battery power supply. The second part of the work consists of acceleration measurements for a four starry shear frame which is excited by shaker. Then the Autoregressive (AR) model coefficients are determined remotely for measured data at each starry of the shear frame. These coefficients are transferred to the master WSU which is connected to the computer using USB port for comparison with stored data base to recognize the pattern. In the extension to this work a Damage Index calculations could be performed at remote WSU.

This study involve ingle interface model which embodies two very different situations of conductive and non-conductive half space using finite-element (FE) method. The efficient and accurate modeling is used to calculate the EM field at interface with topography of layered media. It is usual find single-phase induction motor (SPIM) in several house, office, shopping, farm, and industry applications, which are become each time more sophisticated and requiring variable speed drives. Considering the low cost of this machine, the adoption of sensorless speed control is the more reasonable option for SPIM drives. This paper presents a proposal for sensorless variable speed SPIM drive based on direct rotor field orientation techniques. An observer based on two independent linear close-loop controlsystems provides the estimation of the rotor flux and speed from the measurements of the stator currents and voltages. These estimatives are used by close-loop systems for speed control and flux regulation in order to determine the voltages to be applied in the main and auxiliary windings by a three-legs VSI inverter. None variable transformation is used in this proposal in order to eliminate the asymmetry of the stator windings of the SPIM. The performance of the proposed sensorless speed control is satisfactorily demonstrated from computer simulations considering two situations: variations on rotor speed reference and the application of mechanical load.
