Multiple types of sensors are utilized for remote monitoring of single industrial process to compensate for the limited accuracy of a single type of sensor. Network slicing technology is considered promising for collecting data from heterogeneous sensors and meeting diverse Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. However, existing research on network slicing optimization mainly focuses on inter-slice resource constraints based on slice heterogeneity, neglecting slice coupling feature. In this regard, this paper proposes a novel network slicing framework for edge-assisted industrial IoT systems. The framework includes a slice coupling model and network resource allocation (transmission and computing) to address the problem of improving estimation performance while ensuring system convergence. The slice coupling model is primarily composed of the estimation error covariance of two slices, calculated using the Age of Task (AoT) as a bridge, which reflects the accuracy and freshness of the estimation. To reduce the complexity of the direct solution, the optimization problem is scaled down and decoupled. The iterative Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm is proposed to determine the allocation rates of inter-slice transmission and computing resources. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves a flexible balance under heterogeneous estimation weights and exhibits near-optimal performance. © 2023 IEEE.

Accurate cell classification is crucial but expensive for large-scale single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) analysis. Gene selection (GS) emerges as a pivotal technique in identifying gene subsets of scRNA-seq for classification accuracy improvement and gene scale reduction. Nevertheless, the rising scale of scRNA-seq data presents challenges to existing GS methods regarding performance and computational time. Thus, we propose a surrogate-assisted evolutionary algorithm for multiobjective GS to address these deficiencies. An innovative two-phase initialization method is proposed to select sparse solutions to provide preliminary insights into gene contributions. Then, a binary competitive swarm optimizer is proposed for effective global search, where a local search method is embedded to eliminate irrelevant genes for efficiency consideration. Additionally, a surrogate model is adopted to forecast classification accuracy efficiently and substitutes part of the computationally expensive classification process. Experiments are conducted on eight large-scale scRNA-seq datasets with more than 20,000 genes. The effectiveness of the proposed GS method for scRNA-seq cell classification compared with eight state-of-the-art methods is validated. Gene expression analysis results of selected genes further validated the significance of the genes selected by the proposed method in the classification of scRNA-seq data. © 1997-2012 IEEE.

Vector limiter is a computationally complex component of vector control, but its hardware-friendly algorithm is rarely discussed. This paper presents an efficient solution with pure shift-and-add operations, namely the dual vector rotation algorithm (DVRA). Its programmable logic realization is also provided. The DVRA is then simulated in a motor driving system, and physical validation is made on a Xilinx FPGA. Furthermore, performance comparison is conducted between the DVRA and four control groups (conventional algorithms). All control groups are built by Xilinx IPs under diversified configurations, thus human bias can be minimized. Post-implementation results evince that the DVRA exhibits significantly less resource expenditure and better timing, with power consumption and accuracy comparable to the control groups.

This article proposes a variable frequency phase-shift modulation technique for single stage dual-active-bridge (DAB) AC-DC converter. This isolated single-stage single-phase converter consists of a DAB and a full bridge (FB) inverter. The proposed strategy applies a composite control strategy combining frequency modulation and extended phase shift (EPS) method to overcome the drawback of the non-linear power control of traditional phase-shift control scheme, which significantly reduces the complexity of the controller algorithm. Moreover, the synchronous inverter control applied to the back-end FB inverter is designed, which can realize the energy conversions in a single-stage, and a high frequency (HF) filter capacitor can replace the electrolytic capacitor at the output side DC-link. Thus, the safety of system operation improves and the power density of the system increases. Finally, simulation results confirm the validity and practical feasibility of the proposed control strategy. © 2023 The Korean Institute of Power electronics.

In this paper, we propose a new framework for supervisory control of discrete-event systems in tactical environments. In contrast to the standard supervisory control theory, where the environments are considered fully adversarial, we consider the possibility of the presence of attackers who have their own objectives that may not necessarily be in opposition to the specification of the supervisor. We formulate this scenario as a Stakelberg game in the leader-follower setting, where the designer proposes a supervisor, and the attacker takes a best response to the supervisor. We characterize the solution to the Stakelberg supervisory control problem as having both cooperative and antagonistic solutions. Moreover, we provide an effective algorithm for synthesizing a cooperative supervisor that enables both players to achieve their objectives. Our work makes an initial step forward from the traditional zero-sum setting of supervisory control theory to the non-zero-sum setting. Examples are provided to illustrate our results.

This paper examines the event-triggered consensus of the multi-agent system on matrix-weighted networks, where the interdependencies among higher-dimensional states of neighboring agents are characterized by matrix-weighted edges in the network. Specifically, a novel distributed dynamic event-triggered coordination strategy is proposed for this category of generalized networks, in which an auxiliary system is employed for each agent to dynamically adjust the triggering threshold, which plays an essential role in guaranteeing that the triggering time sequence does not exhibit Zeno behavior. Distributed event-triggered control protocols are proposed to guarantee leaderless consensus for multi-agent systems on matrix-weighted networks, respectively. Remarkably, the spectrum of matrix-valued weights is crucial in event-triggered mechanism design for matrix-weighted networks, generalizing those results only applicable for scalar-weighted networks. The proposed approach allows each agent to broadcast and receive information only at its triggering instants. Finally, simulation examples are provided to demonstrate the theoretical results. © 2023 Technical Committee on control Theory, Chinese Association of automation.

This paper designs a hierarchical control system to improve control performance in a multi-terminal high voltage direct current based on the voltage source converter (VSC-MTDC) transmission system. In this control scheme, the primary control layer employs droop control, while the secondary control layer has developed optimal power flow control (OPF) for maintaining the variation of DC voltage and regulating the active power, and simultaneously minimizing power loss. In the event of a power disturbance or a change in power generation or consumption in the DC system, based on OPF results a new stable droop operating mode is established to stabilize DC voltage variation and regulate active power in the network. A ±400 kV four-terminal VSC-MTDC test network has been developed by using PSCAD and MATLAB simulation tools to assess the proposed control scheme. The primary controller is designed in PSCAD, and the secondary optimum control technique is applied in MATLAB. The results of steady-state and transient operating modes demonstrate that the planned control technique can achieve DC voltage regulation and keep active power, and minimize the power losses in the MTDC system. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper investigates discretization chattering effects in a distributed-parameter process governed by the diffusion PDE and equipped with a sliding-mode-based boundary controller. The collocated measurement is sampled in time and the boundary control signal is applied through a zero-order-hold element. The limit cycle modes constituting the chattering effects are determined exactly by exploiting the difference equation method, yielding their period and spatially dependent amplitude. Simulation results show that the theoretically determined limit cycle modes occur in the closed-loop system.

A Study on Citation Impact with Age Diversity between Disciplines

With the ongoing evolution of scientific research collaboration in depth and breadth, the age distribution among paper collaborators is becoming increasingly varied. Consequently, the question of whether this age distribution affects the quality of collaborative papers has emerged as a significant topic in recent research. In this study, we have compiled and established a comprehensive scientific database, comprising more than 3.5 million papers. These papers, featuring multiple attribute information, originate from over 180 countries. We define the age diversity of a paper based on the academic ages of its co-authors and examine the relationship between age diversity and citation impact using regression analyses. Our findings reveal a clear upward trend in the age diversity of authors over time. The results indicate that the average age diversity of highly cited papers is consistently higher than that of general papers across the entire timeline, spanning four disciplines: economics, engineering, computer science, and physics. Moreover, we demonstrate a significantly positive correlation between age diversity and citation impact. In the aforementioned four disciplines, an increase in the collaborators’ age diversity is associated with a corresponding rise in the paper’s citation impact. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of age-related dynamics in scientific collaboration. It also offers insights into the age distribution of teams, providing practical suggestions for researchers engaged in collaborative endeavors. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.
