Harmonic Disturbance Suppression for High-Performance Nonlinear Repetitive-control systems

This study focuses on the performance design issue of nonlinear repetitive control (RC) systems subject to harmonic disturbances. First, a Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model is used to describe a nonlinear plant. Then, a repetitive controller featuring a harmonic disturbance period is integrated with an EID estimator to form an RC-EID structure. The structure has a learning feature that gradually reduces the harmonic disturbance estimation error by self-learning. The linear inequality matrices guarantee the stability of nonlinear RC systems. A case study with two permanent magnet synchronous motors shows that the presented RC-EID estimator enhances the harmonic disturbance-suppression performance while compensating for the phase lag caused by the conventional EID filter.

This paper considers the problem of approximating the infinite-horizon value function of the discrete-time switched LQR problem. In particular, we propose a new value iteration method to generate a sequence of monotonically decreasing functions that converges exponentially to the value function. This method facilitates us to use coarse approximations resulting from faster but less accurate algorithms for further value iteration, and thus, our method is capable of achieving a better approximation for a given computation time compared with the existing methods. Two numerical examples are presented in this paper to illustrate the effectiveness of our method.

Multi-link serial robots have gained growing popularity in robot-Assisted surgeries with the advantages of flexibility and versatility. This type of robot has be introduced into the uterus manipulation in laparoscopic hysterectomy (UMLH) to mitigate the disadvantages of our previous robotic uterus manipulator. Compared with the other surgical tasks (e.g. laparoscope manipulation, orthopedic and neurosurgery surgeries), the UMLH has a more narrow workspace and a stringent task requirement. Selecting the proper initial configuration of the robot is a key issue for such kind of surgical operations. In this paper, we develop a scheme to select appropriate initial configurations for the UMLH. Moreover, our method can satisfy both the static RCM and dynamic RCM. In an dynamic RCM, the task path or trajectory depends on the robot initial pose and arbitrary (or indefinite) with respect to the robot base frame. We also proposed a criterion, i.e. configuration-Type task capability (CTTC), to measure the task capability of a given configuration-Type for the dynamic RCMs. Simulations are carried out to validate our scheme. © 2022 IEEE.

The energy network is experiencing a decentralizing process due to the recent inclusion of distributed energy resources (DERs), such as photovoltaics (PV), electric vehicles (EV), or batteries. This paradigmatic shift involves new challenges that require enhancing the electricity system's flexibility while preserving its integrity and stability. One way of dealing with them is by unbundling the electrical network into smaller, more manageable units, known as microgrids (MG). Nonetheless, the usage of distributed architectures leads to more exchanged data and control information between end agents, involving security or privacy issues. In this context, blockchain technology emerges as a feasible solution that promises transparent, tamper-proof, and safe systems in a decentralized ecosystem. This paper proposes a distributed energy management platform that takes full advantage of the blockchain technology to enable safe peer to peer (P2P) transactions. A Distributed model predictive control (DMPC) scheme is adopted, and its performance is compared with the centralized approach.

In this paper, we revisit the problem of enlarging the domain of attraction for linear systems with asymmetric actuator saturation. We partition the state space into several regions according to the sign of each input and rewrite the linear system subject to asymmetric actuator saturation as an equivalent switched system, each subsystem of which is associated with one partition of the state space and is a linear system subject to symmetric actuator saturation. Based on this equivalent representation of the system, we present a Lyapunov function, which is composed of a set of quadratic functions associated with matrices that are not required to be positive definite. We establish sufficient conditions for regional stability and, based on them, formulate optimization problems to enlarge the estimate of the domain of attraction. Simulation results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

This paper investigates the adaptability of Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithms in single-stage three-phase photovoltaic (PV) systems connected to the grid of Congo-Brazzaville and compares the attributes of various conventional, significance and novelty of controller system of the proposed of method and improved Incremental Conductance algorithms, Perturbation and Observation Techniques, and other Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithms in normal and partial shading conditions. Performance evaluation techniques are discussed on the basis of the dynamic parameters of the PV system although the control of this structure is relatively advanced technology but the conversion efficiency is difficult to improve due to increase in transformation series. The single stage topology has a simple topology with high reliability and efficiency because of high power consumption, but control algorithm is more complex because of its power convert main circuit a new strategy is being developed. This paper describes a method for maximum power point tracking (MPPT) in the single-stage and three single-phase PV grid-connected system. In the paper, the nonlinear output characteristics of the PV including I-V & P-V are obtained in changed solar insulations or temperature based on MATLAB, and the MPPT algorithm which is based on the P & O algorithm method, compared with Incremental Conductance, is also described, a dimensioning of the impedance adapter for better stabilization. A comparison SPWM and SVPWM control methods in the case of a grid connection applied to the electrical grid of Republic of Congo and their influences on the dynamic performance of the system and their impact in reducing the harmonic rate for better injection into the grid. The phase retrieval (PR) problem involves recovering a signal from amplitude-only measurements and has been extensively studied in various physical measurement and signal processing systems. Recently, there has been increasing interest in the quantized phase retrieval (QPR) problem, where the observed amplitude is quantized to binary values. The existing studies have focused on the noiseless case. In this paper, we address a robust QPR problem that accounts for both quantization and noise. We formulate the robust QPR problem using maximum-likelihood estimation (MLE), which results in a non-convex and challenging optimization problem due to the complexity of its likelihood function. To obtain a high-quality solution, we develop an expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm combined with the Wirtinger flow, allowing us to convert the problem into a more manageable form at each iteration. Our method is implemented on both randomly generated synthetic data and image reconstruction tasks. The results demonstrate that our approach significantly enhances signal recovery performance under the combined effects of quantization and noise. Additionally, the proposed method exhibits better runtime efficiency compared to existing approaches.

An Automatic Ridge Estimation Method for Tacholess Order Tracking of Wind Turbine Gearbox Under Varying-Speed Operation

The instantaneous shaft speed estimation method of wind turbine gearbox based on time-frequency ridge estimation is the most widely used method, but it requires parameter adjustment and expert knowledge to ensure the accuracy of ridge estimation, which significantly reduces the effectiveness of such methods in practice. In this paper, an end-to-end automated ridge estimating (ARE) method is proposed. ARE uses the inherent harmonic relationship in the vibration signal of wind turbine (WT) gearbox to construct a selection index for automatically selecting the target ridge with clear physical meaning. Then, a sub-region division strategy is proposed to avoid the interference of other components and improve computational efficiency. Finally, a parameter-free objective function considering both the amplitude and smoothness of the ridge is proposed to achieve target ridge estimation. The vibration signals of different WT gearboxes collected on-site were applied to verify the performance of ARE. The result shows that ARE realizes the automatic estimation of a ridge. It outperforms other methods in terms of accuracy and computational efficiency. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy sources, including wind and solar power, is a validated approach for mitigating carbon emissions. To maximize renewable energy potential and account for costs and impacts of low carbon energy transitions, research models or modelling tools must provide an accurate representation of the technological and economic capabilities of renewable energy technologies. Hence, this study assesses the electricity generation potential, and costs associated with onshore and offshore wind power, and solar photovoltaic (PV) system, in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region based on wind and solar atlas datasets. Unlike existing works in literature, the assessment of offshore wind energy potential and the calculation of the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) in this study incorporates factors like water depth, distance from shore, and wind speed. Also, the potential of onshore wind energy and solar photovoltaic systems is evaluated by considering variables such as population density, availability of suitable land area, and geographical location, for every grid cell in the MENA region. We found that the average LCOE can be as low as US$40/MWh for solar PV and US$45/MWh for wind power, achieved in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait respectively. This work contributes to existing literature by providing reliable LCOE, capacity factor, and productivity data for solar and wind energy potential estimation in the MENA region. © 2025 The Authors

Surface defect detection is a fundamental step of quality management. Nowadays, surface defect detection system based on machine vision technology has made great progress which can gradually replace the human inspector. With the help of convolutional neural networks, the accuracy and stability of the surface defect detection algorithm are improving rapidly. However, it is difficult to process the images which have small defect areas and complex backgrounds. Furthermore, lacking defective samples and limited computation resources are also tough problems. To deal with these problems, a two-stage algorithm combined with object detection and classification networks is proposed. Transform learning and data augmentation are used to deal with the problem of lacking defect samples. Besides, a detection system based on collaborative cloud-edge computation is designed to improve the performance of the algorithm. The result shows that the proposed method has high performance and low requirements of computation resources. © 2021 IEEE.
