This paper proposes an event-triggered attitude controller design method for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) under cyber attacks. Versatile UAVs are capable of transmitting the measurement or receiving control signals through network channels. In the controller design for such UAVs, it is required to consider two distinctive features. The first one is that the strategy of updating the control signal is important for saving the limited energy consumption. The other one is that the UAVs are vulnerably exposed to threats of malicious attacks through network channels. For enhanced energy efficiency and improved stability, the event-triggered mechanism (ETM) and the attitude controller are simultaneously designed. By utilizing Lyapunov- Krasovskii functionals (LKFs), the sufficient conditions for the co-design are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). For a 3-degrees of freedom (DOF) quadcopter system, the simulation results are presented to validate the proposed attitude control method.

Multi-Centroid Finite Particle Method and its Application in Dynamic Modelling of Industrial Robots

The dynamic modelling of industrial robots is of great value for analyzing the mechanism of robot vibration and improving the performance of robots. To meet the high-performance requirements of industrial robots, the impact of vibration of the robotic arm on the robot’s positioning accuracy cannot be ignored. However, traditional modelling methods rarely consider the manipulator vibration in ways that reflect the mechanism of the vibration coupling between the manipulator and joints of industrial robots. This paper examines the multi-centroid finite particle method and its application in the dynamic modelling of industrial robots, the method which uses a simple and unified framework for dynamic analysis of the model. Compared to the finite particle method, the reverse motion of its multiple centroids not only has a simpler derivation process, but also effectively reduces the influence of the element rigid body displacement on the solution of the pure deformation of the node, improving the convergence of the rigid body rotation-flexible deformation coupling model calculations. A cantilever beam model was used to verify the accuracy and convergence of the method. Furthermore, the multi-centroid finite particle method was combined with positive kinematics to model the dynamics of industrial robots, the results of which were compared with experimental data. It was shown that the modelling and the experimental results had a high degree of agreement, the mechanism of the vibration coupling of the robot arm and joint being further analyzed. © 2023, The Authors. Multimodal Semantic Communication for Generative Audio-Driven Video Conferencing

This paper studies an efficient multimodal data communication scheme for video conferencing. In our considered system, a speaker gives a talk to the audiences, with talking head video and audio being transmitted. Since the speaker does not frequently change posture and high-fidelity transmission of audio (speech and music) is required, redundant visual video data exists and can be removed by generating the video from the audio. To this end, we propose a wave-to-video (Wav2Vid) system, an efficient video transmission framework that reduces transmitted data by generating talking head video from audio. In particular, full-duration audio and short-duration video data are synchronously transmitted through a wireless channel, with neural networks (NNs) extracting and encoding audio and video semantics. The receiver then combines the decoded audio and video data, as well as uses a generative adversarial network (GAN) based model to generate the lip movement videos of the speaker. Simulation results show that the proposed Wav2Vid system can reduce the amount of transmitted data by up to 83% while maintaining the perceptual quality of the generated conferencing video. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.

When a light beam propagates through strongly scattering media, not only does its amplitude and phase distribution become scrambled, but its polarization state also becomes randomized. This depolarization effect imposes significant limitations on the applications of vector light fields in scattering environments. In this Letter, we propose a glare suppression-based method for achieving highly polarization-pure scattering light focusing. For the target polarization direction, we employ the transmission matrix method to calculate the optimized focusing mask. While in its orthogonal-polarization direction, we utilize singular value decomposition (SVD) of the transmission matrix to identify low-eigenvalue transmission channels and reconstruct the focusing mask. Experimentally, we demonstrate over 40-fold enhancement in focal polarization ratio compared to a conventional method. We believe our method provides an effective solution for controlling full-polarization output using single-polarization input, which will be of interest in the fields of wavefront shaping and structured light.

This paper deals with the automatic detection of Myotonia from a task based on the sudden opening of the hand. Data have been gathered from 44 subjects, divided into 17 controls and 27 myotonic patients, by measuring a 2-point articulation of each finger thanks to a calibrated sensory glove equipped with a Resistive Flex Sensor (RFS). RFS gloves are proven to be reliable in the analysis of motion for myotonic patients, which is a relevant task for the monitoring of the disease and subsequent treatment. With the focus on a healthy VS pathological comparison, customized features were extracted, and several classifications entailing motion data from single fingers, single articulations and aggregations were prepared. The pipeline employed a Correlation-based feature selector followed by a SVM classifier. Results prove that it’s possible to detect Myotonia, with aggregated data from four fingers and upper/lower articulations providing the most promising accuracies (91.1%).

The experimental results of a 75 GHz Brillouin Stokes channels are demonstrated in this paper. Three dispersion compensation fiber (DCF) spools and one single mode fiber (SMF) spool are used as a Brillouin gain medium. An erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) sections are used to amplify the generated Stokes channels and to reduce the Brillouin Stokes threshold inside the cavities. Laser pump of 1480 nm with total power of 470 mW are used for the EDFA sections as a pump power unit. In our proposed setup, four channels with 75 GHz spacing, high Stokes power of about 10 mW, and large optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR) of about 52 dB are achieved at Brillouin pump power of 25 mW. The achieved channels are tuned over 15 nm from 1565 to 1580 nm. within the entire tuning range up to 25 Stokes channels with 75 GHz spacing can be utilized. High data rate of about 800 Gb/s can be obtained per single channel at this wide channel spacing. Therefore, the total data rate that could be achieved within the obtained tuning range is about 20 Tb/s. © 2023 Elsevier GmbH

High Performance Distributed control Law for Large-Scale Linear systems: A Partitioned Distributed Observer Approach

In recent years, the distributed-observer-based distributed control law has shown powerful ability to arbitrarily approximate the centralized control performance. However, the traditional distributed observer requires each local observer to reconstruct the state information of the whole system, which is unrealistic for large-scale scenarios. To fill this gap, this paper develops a greedy-idea-based large-scale system partition algorithm, which can significantly reduce the dimension of local observers. Then, the partitioned distributed observer for large-scale systems is proposed to overcome the problem that the system dynamics are difficult to estimate due to the coupling between partitions. Furthermore, the two-layer Lyapunov analysis method is adopted and the dynamic transformation lemma of compact errors is proved, which solves the problem of analyzing stability of the error dynamic of the partitioned distributed observer. Finally, it is proved that the distributed control law based on the partitioned distributed observer can also arbitrarily approximate the control performance of the centralized control law, and the dimension of the local observer is greatly reduced compared with the traditional method. The simulation results show that when the similarity between the physical network and the communication network is about 80%, the local observer dimension is greatly reduced by 90% and the relative error between the performance of the distributed control law and that of the centralized control law is less than 1%. © 2024, CC BY.

Zero-Shot Audio Captioning Using Soft and Hard Prompts

In traditional audio captioning methods, a model is usually trained in a fully supervised manner using a human-annotated dataset containing audio-text pairs and then evaluated on the test set from the same dataset. Such methods have two limitations. First, these methods are often data-hungry and require time-consuming and expensive human annotations to obtain audio-text pairs. Second, these models often suffer from performance degradation in cross-domain scenarios, i.e., when the input audio comes from a different domain than the training set, and this issue has received little attention. To address these issues, we propose a new zero-shot method for audio captioning. Our method is built on the contrastive language-audio pre-training (CLAP) model. During training, the model reconstructs the ground-truth caption using the CLAP text encoder. In the inference stage, the model generates text descriptions from the CLAP audio embeddings of given audio inputs. To enhance the ability of the model in transitioning from text-to-text generation to audio-to-text generation, we propose to use the mixed-augmentations-based soft prompt to learn more robust latent representations, leveraging instance replacement and embedding augmentation. Additionally, we introduce the retrieval-based acoustic-aware hard prompt to improve the cross-domain performance of the model by employing the domain-agnostic label information of sound events. Extensive experiments on AudioCaps and Clotho benchmarks show the effectiveness of our proposed method, which outperforms other zero-shot audio captioning approaches for in-domain scenarios and outperforms the compared methods for cross-domain scenarios, underscoring the generalization ability of our method.

Clutter Suppression Interference (CSI) is a common radar signal processing method, which efficiently suppresses ground clutter interference in radar received echoes and can greatly improve the signal-to-noise ratio of airborne synthetic aperture radar ground motion target indication (SAR/GMTI). However, the implementation of the clutter suppression algorithm in engineering is difficult because of the large number of filtering power coefficients to be calculated in real time. Based on this research background, this paper models the ground clutter of airborne radar, analyzes the principles and performance of three clutter suppression algorithms, CSI, ACSI and median cancellation ACSI, and performs engineering implementation. From the engineering experimental results, it can be seen that all three algorithms can improve the airborne radar signal-to-noise ratio and thus improve the recognition capability of moving targets, among which the median pair cancellation ACSI algorithm has the lowest false alarm probability and the greatest performance improvement.

As deep neural networks (DNNs) have advanced, high-quality pre-trained models have provided excellent feature extraction methods for embedding-based unsupervised anomaly detection (EUSAD). However, when calculating anomaly scores, common EUSAD models often rely on point-to-point distance computations between test features and reference features. This approach not only fails to fully utilize the carefully integrated reference feature library but may also increase pixel-level false positives due to the incorrect selection of reference points. To address this issue, this paper adopts the least squares method, evaluating anomalies by calculating the distance between test feature points and the reference feature plane. Experimental results demonstrate that this method not only performs well in global image detection but also significantly reduces pixel-level false positives, showing strong performance across many anomaly detection datasets. © 2025 SPIE.
