The phase retrieval (PR) problem involves recovering a signal from amplitude-only measurements and has been extensively studied in various physical measurement and signal processing systems. Recently, there has been increasing interest in the quantized phase retrieval (QPR) problem, where the observed amplitude is quantized to binary values. The existing studies have focused on the noiseless case. In this paper, we address a robust QPR problem that accounts for both quantization and noise. We formulate the robust QPR problem using maximum-likelihood estimation (MLE), which results in a non-convex and challenging optimization problem due to the complexity of its likelihood function. To obtain a high-quality solution, we develop an expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm combined with the Wirtinger flow, allowing us to convert the problem into a more manageable form at each iteration. Our method is implemented on both randomly generated synthetic data and image reconstruction tasks. The results demonstrate that our approach significantly enhances signal recovery performance under the combined effects of quantization and noise. Additionally, the proposed method exhibits better runtime efficiency compared to existing approaches.

U-Net frameworks reveal potential on image segmentation tasks of the complex morphologic objects, such as capillaries. To compare the performance of vessels segmentation in fundus images, in this paper, we review U-Net and its three derived architectures: Residual Spatial Attention Network, Generative Adversarial Networks and IterNet. The networks training and testing were completed using the same image datasets under the same configurations. We calculated the accuracy and precision of segmentation results. The results showed that the cascade U-Net architecture provided better results especially on the capillaries parts.

Event-triggered control has attracted considerable attention for its effectiveness in resource-restricted applications. To make event-triggered control as an end-to-end solution, a key issue is how to effectively learn unknown system dynamics from event-triggered measurements and consequently, develop a learning-based event-triggered controller. Existing works learn system dynamics based on periodic time-triggered measurements, and it is yet to know how to learn a controller with performance guarantee based on event-triggered measurements. To address this issue, we consider the problem of learning an event-triggered state feedback controller for an unknown linear system based on event-triggered state measurements in this work. In particular, we first analyze the event-triggered measurements within a set-membership framework. We prove that the estimation error belongs to a bounded ellipsoid determined by the historical measurements and the event-triggering condition. Subsequently, we demonstrate that all admissible systems compatible with the collected data samples can be explicitly represented in the form of quadratic matrix inequalities using the state estimates. With the acquired set of admissible systems, a co-design problem for the data-driven controller and event-triggering condition is solved using the linear matrix inequality technique, with guaranteed closed-loop stability and L2-gain performance. Finally, numerical examples and comparisons are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed event-triggered learning and control approach. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

In recent years, there has been a significant increase in interest in the use of flexible sensor structures for various applications. These structures are relatively inexpensive and can be fabricated in different shapes and sizes. The present article investigates three types of flexible capacitive sensor structures with different forms. The influence of bending on their capacitance, impedance, and dielectric losses in the frequency domain has been studied. Some of the obtained results are presented graphically, and an analysis of the properties of the structures has been conducted.

Semantic communication (SemCom) has received considerable attention for its ability to reduce data transmission size while maintaining task performance. However, existing works mainly focus on analog SemCom with simple channel models, which may limit its practical application. To reduce this gap, we propose an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)based SemCom system that is compatible with existing digital communication infrastructures. In the considered system, the extracted semantics is quantized by scalar quantizers, transformed into OFDM signal, and then transmitted over the frequency-selective channel. Moreover, we propose a semantic importance measurement method to build the relationship between target task and semantic features. Based on semantic importance, we formulate a sub-carrier and bit allocation problem to maximize communication performance. However, the optimization objective function cannot be accurately characterized using a mathematical expression due to the neural network-based semantic codec. Given the complex nature of the problem, we first propose a low-complexity sub-carrier allocation method that assigns sub-carriers with better channel conditions to more critical semantics. Then, we propose a deep reinforcement learning-based bit allocation algorithm with dynamic action space. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed system achieves 9.7% and 28.7% performance gains compared to analog SemCom and conventional bit-based communication systems, respectively. How improve the mapping efficiency and location accuracy of the multi-UAV cluster based on the distributed SLAM technology is a significant problem in overlapping regions. Therefore, this paper mainly proposes a novel relocation recognition algorithm for the multi-UAV cluster. First, the autonomous localization algorithm based on visual-inertial fusion is proposed. Then, the algorithm for vocabulary updating and relocating is designed. Finally, practical testing is implemented to verify and improve the efficiency of exploration ability and the accuracy of the autonomous navigation and positioning in the complex overlapping regions. © 2022 IEEE.

Integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) has emerged as a pivotal enabling technology for next-generation wireless networks. Despite the distinct signal design requirements of sensing and communication (S&C) systems, shifting the symbol-wise pulse shaping (SWiPS) framework from communication-only systems to ISAC poses significant challenges in signal design and processing This paper addresses these challenges by examining the ambiguity function (AF) of the SWiPS ISAC signal and introducing a novel pulse shaping design for single-carrier ISAC transmission. We formulate optimization problems to minimize the average integrated sidelobe level (ISL) of the AF, as well as the weighted ISL (WISL) while satisfying inter-symbol interference (ISI), out-of-band emission (OOBE), and power constraints. Our contributions include establishing the relationship between the AFs of both the random data symbols and signaling pulses, analyzing the statistical characteristics of the AF, and developing algorithmic frameworks for pulse shaping optimization using successive convex approximation (SCA) and alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) approaches. Numerical results are provided to validate our theoretical analysis, which demonstrate significant performance improvements in the proposed SWiPS design compared to the root-raised cosine (RRC) pulse shaping for conventional communication systems. This paper introduces a new variational Gaussian filtering approach for estimating the state of a nonlinear dynamic system. We first assume that the predictive distribution of the state is Gaussian and derive an iterative method for updating the state posterior in the natural parameter space through KullbackLeibler divergence minimization. The obtained update rule is the same as that of the conjugate-computation variational inference technique in Bayesian learning. The derivation here is simpler and more insightful. We then impose a Wishart prior on the inverse of the state prediction covariance to take into account the impact of approximating the state predictive distribution using a Gaussian density on the state posterior estimation. The prediction covariance is identified jointly with the state using variational inference and the established state posterior update rule to achieve the desired Gaussian filtering. Simulation study examines the performance of the proposed filtering framework in target tracking based on bearing and range measurements.

This study is concerned with a control system design method with frequency response data named a finite number of frequency responses(an FNFR) model. In this paper a numerical descent direction is introduced and an iterative method for solving control problems formulated with the FNFR model is proposed with the descent direction. One feature of our approach is to update controller variables so that they approach to a feasible region of considering control problems from the outside. The efficiency of our method is shown by numerical examples.

This article investigates the adaptive resource allocation scheme for digital twin (DT) synchronization optimization over dynamic wireless networks. In our considered model, a base station (BS) continuously collects factory physical object state data from wireless devices to build a real-time virtual DT system for factory event analysis. Due to continuous data transmission, maintaining DT synchronization must use extensive wireless resources. To address this issue, a subset of devices is selected to transmit their sensing data, and resource block (RB) allocation is optimized. This problem is formulated as a constrained Markov process (CMDP) problem that minimizes the long-term mismatch between the physical and virtual systems. To solve this CMDP, we first transform the problem into a dual problem that refines RB constraint impacts on device scheduling strategies. We then propose a continual reinforcement learning (CRL) algorithm to solve the dual problem. The CRL algorithm learns a stable policy across historical experiences for quick adaptation to dynamics in physical states and network capacity. Simulation results show that the CRL can adapt quickly to network capacity changes and reduce normalized root mean square error (NRMSE) between physical and virtual states by up to 55.2%, using the same RB number as traditional methods. © 2025 IEEE.
