Objective. Common spatial patterns (CSP) is a prominent feature extraction algorithm in motor imagery (MI)-based brain-computer interfaces (BCIs). However, CSP is computed using sample-based covariance-matrix estimation. Hence, its performance deteriorates if the number of training trials is small. To address this problem, this paper proposes a novel regularized covariance matrix estimation framework for CSP (i.e. DTW-RCSP) based on dynamic time warping (DTW) and transfer learning. Approach. The proposed framework combines the subject-specific covariance matrix (Σ55) estimated using the available trials from the new subject, with a novel DTW-based transferred covariance matrix (ΣDTW) estimated using previous subjects trials. In the proposed ΣDTW, the available labelled trials from the previous subjects are temporally aligned to the average of the available trials of the new subject from the same class using DTW. This alignment aims to reduce temporal variations and non-stationarities between previous subjects' trials and the available trials from the new subjects. Moreover, to tackle the problem of regularization parameter selection when only a few trials are available for training, an online method is proposed, where the best regularization parameter is selected based on the confidence scores of the trained classifier on the upcoming first few labelled testing trials. Main results. The proposed framework is evaluated on two datasets against two baseline algorithms. The obtained results reveal that DTW-RCSP significantly outperformed the baseline algorithms at various testing scenarios, particularly, when only a few trials are available for training. Significance. Impressively, our results show that successful BCI interactions could be achieved with a calibration session as small as only one trial per class. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd.

In the upcoming next-generation (5G-Advanced and 6G) wireless networks, sensing as a service will play a more important role than ever before. Recently, the concept of perceptive network is proposed as a paradigm shift that provides sensing and communication (S&C) services simultaneously. This type of technology is typically referred to as Integrated Sensing and Communications (ISAC). In this paper, we propose the concept of sensing quality of service (QoS) in terms of diverse applications. Specifically, the probability of detection, the Crámer-Rao bound (CRB) for parameter estimation and the posterior CRB for moving target indication are employed to measure the sensing QoS for detection, localization, and tracking, respectively. Then, we establish a unified framework for ISAC resource allocation, where the fairness and the comprehensiveness optimization criteria are considered for the aforementioned sensing services. The proposed schemes can flexibly allocate the limited power and bandwidth resources according to both S&C QoSs. Finally, we study the performance trade-off between S&C services in different resource allocation schemes by numerical simulations. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Global Navigation Satellite systems (GNSS) localization uses time of arrival (TOA) to measure the distance between satellite and rover antenna. The key for TOA technique is the signal propagation should be straight geometrically. However, when the train runs in harsh environments, the GNSS signal quality can be degraded due to obstacles. GNSS signals are usually blocked by buildings and other obstacles, resulting in reflection and reflection, which leads to multipath positioning errors of LOS and NLOS. In the case of LOS multipath error, the GNSS receiver tracks the direct and reflected / diffracted composite signal, and the reflected / diffracted signal affects the correlation function tracking loop of the direct signal in GNSS. In the case of NLOS multipath error, GNSS receiver directly tracks reflected or diffracted signal because there is no direct satellite signal. In both cases, the multipath signal will have a large noise error range which is reflected in the change of SNR. In the GNSS solution, various GNSS receivers are used to obtain the SNR of each satellite to achieve the fully coverage of the satellite signal reception quality. Thus with limited GNSS receiver observation results, of the crowdsourcing of NLOS signal inspection will deliver the observation results in a more convenient way. In the open environment scenario, the relationship between elevation angle and SNR can be fitted by a linear function. However, in GNSS signal reception degraded environments (urban canyon etc.), The SNR at the elevation angle of the occlusion boundary will be drastically reduced. This will give us the boundary of the occlusion range. Based on this principle, we can map the environmental characteristics of different sections of the railway. The railway environment can generally be divided into open scenario, road cutting scenario, half sky scenario, urban canyon scenario and tunnel scenario. 5 typical scenario all have distinct environmental characteristics. The electroencephalogram (EEG) serves as a significant tool in the realms of clinical medicine, cerebral investigation, and neurological disorders research. However, the EEG records we obtain are often easily contaminated by various artifacts, which can blur or distort the underlying EEG signals and make data interpretation difficult. Generally speaking, removing EEG artifacts is considered an essential step in brain signal analysis. Therefore, removing artifacts is crucial for obtaining accurate and reliable EEG signals for subsequent analysis. Recently, deep learning techniques have found widespread application across various domains for denoising tasks, including image denoising and EEG denoising. Many advanced algorithms have been developed in image denoising, which has achieved good results in enhancing low-quality images. Moreover, it has shown superior performance in EEG denoising. In contrast, few people have devoted themselves to studying EEG denoising, and existing convolutional neural network EEG denoising methods still have problems of overfitting and poor denoising effect in Electromyograph(EMG) and ElectroOculoGram(EOG) artifact removal. Therefore, this paper proposes a method called DWINet (De-artifacting with Image-based Network for EEG Signals) based on an image dehazing network DRHNet for removing artifacts from EEG signals. Specifically, our approach DWINet, addresses the de-artifacting issue in EEG signals by converting it as an image dehazing problem and utilizes the image dehazing capability of DRHNet to enhance the denoising performance of EEG signals. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the compared algorithms in removing the ocular artifact in EEG signals and exhibits higher accuracy and robustness. © 2024, J. Model Predictive control (MPC) has been increasingly adopted by various converters due to its numerous advantages, including fast dynamic response, multi-objective control, and ease of implementation. However, MPC’s variable switching frequency can degrade waveform quality compared to conventional control techniques that utilize proper modulation methods. To address this issue, combining MPC with a PWM technique allows the converter to operate at a fixed switching frequency, resulting in what is known as modulated model predictive control (M2PC). This study proposes an M2PC for a four-leg converter that is coupled with an indirect matrix converter at the input. The proposed M2PC enhances the output waveform quality using a PWM technique for the four-leg converter while maintaining a low fixed switching frequency. The performance of this approach is demonstrated through the implementation of the proposed M2PC technique in the MATLAB/Simulink environment, showing improvements in waveform quality.

Disturbance observers have been attracting continuing research efforts and are widely used in many applications. Among them, the Kalman filter-based disturbance observer is an attractive one since it estimates both the state and the disturbance simultaneously, and is optimal for a linear system with Gaussian noises. Unfortunately, The noise in the disturbance channel typically exhibits a heavy-tailed distribution because the nominal disturbance dynamics usually do not align with the practical ones. To handle this issue, we propose a generalized multi-kernel maximum correntropy Kalman filter for disturbance estimation, which is less conservative by adopting different kernel bandwidths for different channels and exhibits excellent performance both with and without external disturbance. The convergence of the fixed point iteration and the complexity of the proposed algorithm are given. Simulations on a robotic manipulator reveal that the proposed algorithm is very efficient in disturbance estimation with moderate algorithm complexity. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. Superconductors possessing diverse symmetry-enforced topological states have been a subject of intense interest as they are arguably one of the most feasible candidates to realize so-called topological superconductivity, a source of Majorana fermions that hold great promise for topological quantum computing. Here we study the low-lying quasiparticle excitations in the superconducting intermetallic alloy V2Ga5 by low-temperature heat capacity and ultra-low-temperature thermal conductivity measurements. It is found that its electronic specific heat can be fitted by either a d-wave gap or two s-wave gaps. However, the low-T thermal conductivity clearly points to the multiple nodeless energy gaps in its low-lying excitation spectrum. On the other hand, first-principles calculations reveal a multitude of topological fermions near the Fermi level, involving discrete Dirac nodes as well as Dirac nodal lines. These topological carriers, when condensed into Cooper pairs, provide a natural platform for achieving topologically nontrivial phases and possible Majorana fermions.

Rate control is a critical component for image and video compression Particularly under limited network bandwidth conditions, bitrate control is essential to ensure efficient image transmission by effectively allocation channel resources. In this research, since both Channel and Spatial have relationship with rate allocation, we first propose a joint Channel-wise and Spatial-wise Quantization scheme to determine optimal quantization parameters. Subsequently, we develop a quantization step estimation network to obtain parameters to efficiently allocate rate according to target rate. Experiments demonstrate that our algorithm significantly improve compressed image quality with minimal bitrate distortion and achieve accurate rate control with nearly 3% average bitrate error.
