This paper presents an accurate flux observer used in distributed multi-processor (DMP) adjustable speed drive systems. The stator flux linkage is estimated with a full-order observer, while the rotor speed is identified by using Lyapunov theorem. In order to improve the system performance in a wide speed range, the stator resistance is estimated simultaneously. In this paper, the structure of the DMP system, the principle of the full-order observer and the method for identifying the rotor speed and state resistance are all described in details. Relevant simulation results based on MATLAB/SIMULINK are given to prove the performance of the method. Experiments of a real system also verify the feasibility of this scheme

The problem of model-based condition monitoring of aero gas turbine engines is considered. Genetic algorithms are applied for the dynamic modelling of aero engines by estimating parameters of the linear reduced-order model. The use of genetic algorithms affords flexibility in the choice of performance metrics. Real engine data is used to investigate the performance genetic algorithms and this approach is compared with traditional modelling techniques used in industry.

This paper presents an integrated framework for the optimal management of electricity purchase allocation and risk for load service entities (LSEs). To the practice of China Power Markets, we propose the framework of power portfolio of combined physical forward contract and spot market. The framework suggests that the forward contracts should have different prices on-peak and off-peak in accord with sale prices distinguish on-peak and off-peak. The optimal purchase problem is described by the utility maximum integrated the rate of return and risk tolerance level, and risk is evaluated by Value at Risk (VaR). The analytical solution is also conducted. The numerical results are reasonable with higher rate of return and better risk hedging compared with the corresponding results from the existing portfolio selection approach. The presented framework gives one possible and effective method for the optimal power portfolio and risk management in incomplete power markets.

Based on mathematical morphology and grille fractal, a novel approach on power quality disturbance detection and location is presented in this paper. At first a parallel composite morphological filter with multiple-structure elements is designed to filter the random noise and impulse noise in power quality disturbance signals. Then to the filtered curves, an easy implementation criterion for singularity detection based on the change regularity of grille fractal is proposed to locate the start and end time that disturbance occurs. The voltage sag, swell, harmonic and their combined disturbances are used to verify the validity of the proposed filter-location approach. Numerical results show that the proposed approach is valid and effective

The use of driving-aid ultrasonic systems in low visibility conditions due to fog, makes it necessary to study the influence of environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity or air velocity on the ultrasonic propagation. The present work tries to construct simple empirical models for velocity and echo amplitude that includes temperature and relative humidity as inputs. We present the results obtained in the modelling of the ultrasonic propagation in environments with variable conditions of humidity and temperature, including foggy conditions.

This paper presents the necessity of power system reinforcements in today's electricity supply industry. The principal outcome of the paper is two-fold. First, the paper offers a dynamic market modeling that primarily considers power system economics, reliability, security, and operation constraints. The network planning model is formulated by using stochastic modeling. Afterward neurofuzzy system with GA-based algorithm is proposed as a methodological approach. The fuzzy inference system is also presented. It mainly prioritizes all power system constraints throughout the model and evaluates a proper decision making towards the fuzzy if-then rules. Within the paper moreover, genetic algorithm (GA) is applied for optimizing the objective function whilst the recurrent neural network (RNN) technique is chosen for knowledge acquisition by training and learning all data under different power system control and operation scenarios. Eventually, some conclusions on whether or not the network reinforcements are necessarily required within a competitive marketplace are drawn.

We study the problem of removing users from congested cells. We consider two different objectives for the removal algorithms. The first objective is to maximize the throughput. The second objective is to minimize the number of removed connections. The optimal removing problem can be classified as a combinatorial optimization problem. It is well known that there is no general closed form solution for this type of problem. Furthermore, finding the optimal solutions in medium and large sizes of these problems is usually very exhausting. Consequently, we use heuristics to solve the problem. Our proposed heuristic algorithm is very simple to implement and gives a solution close to the optimum in many different cases.

The objective of this paper is to investigate the method which can assess accurately and efficiently the effects of excitation systems on transient stability of power systems. At first, critical fault clearing time functions CCT(W:load) are defined by taking notice of the fact that transient stability is mainly controlled by fault clearing time and load. Next, the method to be enable to assess accurately and efficiently the effects of excitation systems on transient stability has been newly developed by using the above functions. Finally, it has been applied to the effect assessment in the occurrence of a three- phase fault in a model power system. Results of application have been clarified the effectiveness of the developed method.

This paper considers the stability of the fractional-order linear time-invariant systems with interval type uncertainties in both fractional orders and the relevant coefficients. It is an extension of our previous result on the robust stability analysis of the interval type uncertain fractional order LTI systems with crisply known fractional orders. We have proposed a stability check procedure for uncertain LTI systems with interval fractional orders and interval coefficients. The procedure is demonstrated with some simple examples
