The drive to reduce carbon emissions and meet climate change targets set by governments worldwide has led to the growth of renewable energy sources and electric vehicles in recent *** intermittent generation and centralised demand require increased transmission capacities when operating associated power *** transmission lines are not capable of meeting planned *** many countries,obtaining a new right of way to build an overhead line(OHL)is increasingly *** is therefore an urgent need to study techniques for transmission line *** increasing voltages is not feasible because elevated surface potential gradient at conductor surfaces increases audible noise(AN)levels *** feasibility of high phase order,especially six-phase,transmission techniques has been previously demonstrated,and it has been proved to be an effective way to uprate existing three-phase double circuit OHLs with increased *** study analyses two typical overhead line structures,whose conductor surface potential gradient and AN level are *** average and maximum surface potential gradient of the six-phase OHL are 18.5%and 18.6%lower than that of the three-phase *** AN of the six-phase single circuit OHL is predicted to be 6.33 and 6.45 dBA lower than that of the three-phase double circuit OHL after the voltage is increased by 45%and 50%for the lines *** is shown that six-phase OHLs can increase capacity by allowing elevating phase voltages without increasing acoustic noise levels.

Optimal integration of solar home systems and appliance scheduling for residential homes under severe national load shedding

In developing countries like South Africa,users experienced more than 1030 hours of load shedding outages in just the first half of 2023 due to inadequate power supply from the national *** homes that cannot afford to take actions to mitigate the challenges of load shedding are severely inconvenienced as they have to reschedule their demand *** study presents optimal strategies to guide households in determining suitable scheduling and sizing solutions for solar home systems to mitigate the inconvenience experienced by residents due to load *** start with,we predict the load shedding stages that are used as input for the optimal strategies by using the K-Nearest Neighbour(KNN)*** on an accurate forecast of the future load shedding patterns,we formulate the residents’inconvenience and the loss of power supply probability during load shedding as the objective *** solving the multi-objective optimisation problem,four different strategies to fight against load shedding are identified,namely(1)optimal home appliance scheduling(HAS)under load shedding;(2)optimal HAS supported by solar panels;(3)optimal HAS supported by batteries,and(4)optimal HAS supported by the solar home system with both solar panels and *** these strategies,appliance scheduling with an optimally sized 9.6 kWh battery and a 2.74 kWp panel array of five 550 Wp panels,eliminates the loss of power supply probability and reduces the inconvenience by 92%when tested under the South African load shedding cases in 2023.

Image registration technology has important application value in Image Guide Radiation Therapy (IGRT), Deformable image registration with 2D/3D in IGRT has been developed for a long time, and although the current methods perform well, they are not accurate enough to meet the growing demand for patient care. In this paper, a fast unsupervised learning registration model based on U-net is proposed. The proposed model directly estimates the spatial transformation from float images and fixed images, and applies a regularization term to constrain the model to learn local matching. The training process does not require supervised information such as the ground truth deformation field, and the entire deformation field can be predicted at once. Through the data set, the method is compared with the existing popular registration methods in terms of accuracy, The preliminary results showed that for approximately 96% cases, the learning-based method could obtain improved or comparable registration in comparison with the baseline method. © 2023 SPIE.

Porous 2D materials with high conductivity and large surface area have been proposed for potential electromagnetic interference(EMI)shielding materials in future mobility and wearable applications to prevent signal noise,transmission inaccuracy,system malfunction,and health ***,we report on the synthesis of lightweight and flexible flash-induced porous graphene(FPG)with excellent EMI shielding *** broad spectrum of pulsed flashlight induces photo-chemical and photo-thermal reactions in polyimide films,forming 5×10 cm^(2)-size porous graphene with a hollow pillar structure in a few *** resulting material demonstrated low density(0.0354 g cm^(−3))and outstanding absolute EMI shielding effectiveness of 1.12×10^(5) dB cm^(2) g^(−1).The FPG was characterized via thorough material analyses,and its mechanical durability and flexibility were confirmed by a bending cycle ***,the FPG was utilized in drone and wearable applications,showing effective EMI shielding performance for internal/external EMI in a drone radar system and reducing the specific absorption rate in the human body.

In this article, an adaptive event-triggered asymp¬totically fault-tolerant control (FTC) issue for nonlinear systems with actuator faults is investigated. An extended neural networks (NNs) technique is introduced to estimate unknown functions of the system under consideration. Compared with traditional NNs that ignore approximation errors, the proposed extended NNs further processes approximation errors, reducing the conservatism of the proposed algorithm. Then, within the framework of backstepping method, a new adaptive control strategy is developed by combining event-triggered mechanism (ETM) and bound estimation (BE) approach, which ensures the asymptotic convergence of system states while also reducing the transmission of unnecessary information, thus improving the utilization of communication resources. At the same time, the designed controller eliminates the adverse effects of actuator failures and system nonlinear terms. Finally, a simulation example of a single-link robot system is provided to demonstrate that the developed control strategy can ensure that all signals are bounded and system states are asymptotically convergent. © 2024 IEEE.

Privacy-aware machine learning paradigms have sparked widespread concern due to their ability to safeguard the local privacy of data owners, preventing the leakage of private information to untrustworthy platforms or malicious third parties. This article focuses on characterizing the interactions between the learner and the data owner within this privacy-aware training process. Here, the data owner hesitates to transmit the original gradient to the learner due to potential cybersecurity issues, such as gradient leakage and membership inference. To address this concern, we propose a Stackelberg game framework that models the training process. In this framework, the data owner's objective is not to maximize the discrepancy between the learner's obtained gradient and the true gradient but rather to ensure that the learner obtains a gradient closely resembling one deliberately designed by the data owner, while the learner's objective is to recover the true gradient as accurately as possible. We derive the optimal encoder and decoder using mismatched cost functions and characterize the equilibrium for specific cases, balancing model accuracy and local privacy. Numerical examples illustrate the main results, and we conclude with expanding discussions to suggest future investigations into reliable countermeasure designs. © 2020 IEEE.

In the article, an adaptive fixed-time reinforcement learning (RL) optimized control policy is given for nonlinear systems. Radial basis function neural networks (RBFNNs) are exploited to fit uncertain nonlinearities appeared in the considered systems and RL is applied under the critic-actor architecture by using RBFNNs. Specifically, a novel fixed-time smooth estimation system is proposed to improve the estimating performance of RBFNNs. The introduction of the hyperbolic tangent function effectively avoids the singularity problem of the derivative of the virtual controller. The stability analysis shows that the tracking error inclines to an adjustable region near the origin in a fixed-time interval and the boundedness of all signals is obtained. Finally, the intelligent ship autopilot is simulated to prove the utilizability of the obtained control way. © 2024 IEEE.
