Single-phase Auto-reclosing (SPAR) is widely used on EHV/UHV transmission lines to improve power system reliability. However, reclosing on to a permanent fault can adversely affect the system stability and damage generators and other equipment connected to the line. To solve this problem, a new algorithm for improving the single-phase adaptive autoreclosure is presented in this paper. Firstly, primary and secondary arc models are introduced, then a series of simulations are carried out based on the arc models. By analyzing the simulation results, a new method to discriminate between transient faults and permanent faults is proposed. Since fault arcs are associated with transient faults, and the frequent re-ignitions of the secondary arc cause distortions in the line voltage, a reliable single-phase autoreclosure can be achieved by measuring the distortion in the line voltage waveform. In order to improve the distortion detection, Multi-resolution Morphological Gradient (MMG) has been adopted. Finally, numerous simulation results show that the algorithm proposed in this paper can be used as an effective tool for realizing the SPAR.

With the continuously increasing packaging density, the corresponding techniques for heat dissipation are vital to high performance components. During the system operation, the heat generated by components must be efficiently transferred outside of the electronic package. To meet the heat removal requirement of the electronic devices with a high power, several liquid cooling schemes have been suggested, among which the micro-channel cooler have gained the most attention. Simultaneously, the carbon nanotube (CNT) has attracted a significant interest in the material properties and exploratory application. Some studies have been recently conducted to evaluate the thermal performance of the CNTs and their applicability for heat removal in integrated circuit (IC) devices. By utilizing the adhesive transfer process to form the CNT bundles as the fins during the micro-channel development, the devices can be immune from the high temperature required by the CNT growth process. In the present paper, the interface heat transfer in the CNT-based micro-channel cooler has been investigated. The thermal resistances introduced by the interface between the CNT and the epoxy due to adhesive transfer and the interface between the CNT and water have been simulated by molecular dynamics simulation (MDS) method. And the thermal resistance at the interface between the CNT and the epoxy is about 1.0-1.5 × 10-8Km2/W. The obtained MDS results are likely to provide the microscopic understanding of the thermal performance of the CNT micro-channel cooler as well as provide references to the macroscopic evaluation of the thermal efficiency for the micro-channel cooler design and optimization.

Isotropic conductive adhesives (ICAs) with lower bonding temperature, higher resolution and environmental friendly have been used extensively in packaging process. In order to improve the electrical and thermal conductive properties of ICAs, two kinds of bimodal high temperature stable ICAs with matrix SHT6 and fillers with composition of macro silver flakes and boron nitride nanoparticles or macro silver flakes and silicon carbide nanoparticles were studied. In these two kinds of adhesives, the silver flakes were 75wt%, and the contents of nanoparticles were 0wt%, 0.5wt%, 1.5wt%, 2.5wt%, 3wt%, 5wt% in weight. All the samples were cured at 150°C for 1 hour. SEM images and EDS results show the nanoparticles disperse randomly in the ICA. The electrical resistivity of these ICAs depends on the contents of silver flakes and is hardly affected by BN nanoparticles and SiC nanoparticles. The thermal conductivity of these ICAs increases firstly with the weight increase of the BN nanoparticles and SiC nanoparticles. And then it decreases when the content of the nanoparticles beyond a certain point.

We investigate the flocking problem of multiple nonlinear dynamical mobile agents with a virtual leader in a dynamic proximity network. We assume that only a fraction of agents in the network are informed and propose a connectivity-preserving flocking algorithm. Under the assumption that the initial network is connected, we introduce local adaptation strategies for both the weights on the velocity navigational feedback and the coupling strengths that enable all agents to track the virtual leader, without requiring the knowledge of the agent dynamics. The resulting flocking algorithm works even for the case where only one agent is informed.

This paper presents a 40 GHz phase-locked loop as an enabling component for sliding-IF 60 GHz transceivers. The PLL front-end includes, a 40 GHz LC voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) and a quadrature injection locked frequency divider (ILFD), which are tuned simultaneously to align their tuning and locking range, respectively. The PLL back-end consists of an optimized divider chain, PFD, CP and a second-order passive loop filter integrated on chip. The PLL can be locked from 38.2 to 43.6 GHz corresponding to a down-conversion range of 57.3 to 65.4 GHz, thus covering all IEEE 802.15.3c channels. The phase noise for a 40.2 GHz output is -89.7, -94 and -112 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz, 4 MHz and 10 MHz offsets, respectively. The settling time is lower than 2μsec and reference spurs are lower than -42 dB. Implemented in a 65 nm bulk CMOS technology, the PLL consumes 22.8 mW, excluding buffers, from a 1.2 V supply and occupies 1.67 × 0.745 mm 2 silicon area.

Optimum allocation of FACTS devices in Fars Regional Electric Network using genetic algorithm based goal attainment

This paper presents a novel approach to find optimum locations and capacity of flexible alternating current transmission system (FACTS) devices in a power system using a multi-objective optimization function. Thyristor controlled series compensators (TCSCs) and static var compensators (SVCs) are the utilized FACTS devices. Our objectives are active power loss reduction, newly introduced FACTS devices cost reduction, voltage deviation reduction, and increase on the robustness of the security margin against voltage collapse. The operational and controlling constraints, as well as load constraints, were considered in the optimum allocation. A goal attainment method based on the genetic algorithm (GA) was used to approach the global optimum. The estimated annual load profile was utilized in a sequential quadratic programming (SQP) optimization sub-problem to the optimum siting and sizing of FACTS devices. Fars Regional Electric Network was selected as a practical system to validate the performance and effectiveness of the proposed method. The entire investment of the FACTS devices was paid off and an additional 2.4% savings was made. The cost reduction of peak point power generation implies that power plant expansion can be postponed.

Polishing is a highly skilled manufacturing process with a lot of constraint and interaction with environment. Unfortunately, manual polishing process takes time consuming of the total manufacturing time and takes a significant cost. On top of that, undesired working condition exists due to dust and noise and next it is quite difficult to find skilled technicians. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an automation system on the polishing process. One of the automation systems that are often developed by the industry is the use of robots. The goal is to handle the repetitive work that humans are not able to do so. In general, the purpose of polishing is to get the uniform surface roughness distributed evenly throughout part's surface. This research combines computer vision and robotics systems to overcome the problems arising in the polishing process. Vision system is used to measure surface defect that divide into several categories. The surface data is learned using artificial neural networks then give the decisions to move the actuator on robot. Parameters that developed in this system are force and time polishing which has a significant effect on the polishing process. Therefore, this system studies the characteristics of surface defects before the given action with different value of force and polishing time, and then compared with surface defects after given the action. Results obtained show that it is possible to obtain surface parameters using vision-based methods with a certain limit of accuracy. However, there are some advantages using this system, including faster polishing time, simpler quality inspection, and more evenly surface roughness result compared with manual polishing. The overall results of this research would encourage further developments to achieve robust computer vision technique for robotic polishing application.

As a new service-oriented network manufacturing model, cloud manufacturing (CMfg) can accelerate the transformation from production-oriented to service-oriented manufacturing. Study of resource service transaction (RST) is one of the key issues that deciding the practical application of CMfg. In this study, the comprehensive utility models considered the revenue, time, and reliability for the three sides, i.e., resource service provider (RSP), resource service demander (RSD), and resource service agent (Agent) in the RST process in CMfg under the decentralized decision-making condition are first established, respectively. Then the comprehensive utility model for the RST chain (RSTC) of “multiple RSP-one Agent-multiple RSD” under the centralized decision-making condition is proposed and discussed. The existence of utility equilibriums between RSP and Agent, Agent and RSD are proved in the optimal decision of the RSTC under the decentralized decision-making condition.
