Renewable energy resources emerge as a sustainable alternative to augmenting the energy supply of Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) platforms. However, the increased generation based on converter-interfaced energy decreases the system-equivalent inertia constant, which becomes more susceptible to frequency deviations. This paper proposes and evaluates the performance of the combined frequency-voltage-var control to mitigate frequency variation in a typical FPSO unit with penetration of wind power systems. The control functions are communication-free and embedded in two active front-end variable frequency drives (AFE- VFDs) set on water injection pumps. The FPSO's electrical power system model is developed in MATLAB/Simulink®. Comparative results with the AFE-VFD equipped with volt-var, freq-var, and combined freq-volt-var functions are shown to highlight the merits of the proposed solution.

Ferromagnetic semiconductor has attracted much attention for the application of spintronic devices, which will bring next generation of the information technology. Cobalt-doped Zinc Oxides (ZnO: Co) is strong candidate of this material group. The ZnO: Co films were grown on a silicon substrate (100) at room temperature by radio-frequency (rf) sputtering deposition and followed by post-annealing treatment for 3 hours at 400°C and 800°C in the air. The transition from paramagnetic to ferromagnetic occurs after annealing at 400°C, and the properties return to paramagnetic like as-deposition when the temperature rises to 800°C. The XRD measurement of ZnO: Co films exhibited a wurtzite structure in the (002) plane and was free from secondary phases. Then, post-annealing at 400°C due to shift peak and decrease oxygen element, meanwhile the crystallinity significantly up to 800°C.

We have successfully demonstrated, for the first time, an innovative back-end-of-line (BEOL) compatible electro-optic modulator and memory (EOMM) based on Lithium Niobate on Insulator (LNOI) micro-ring resonator (MRR) integrated with Ferroelectric Hafnium Zirconate Hf 0.5 Zr 0.5 O (HZO) non-volatile analog memory. High non-volatile memory and modulation performances are both achieved in a single compact device, exhibiting high extinction ratio of 13.3 dB, excellent efficiency of 66pm/V, stable nine-state switching, record-high endurance exceeding 10 9 cycles. This is accomplished by utilizing Pockels effect in LNOI, induced by electric-field effect from remnant HZO ferroelectric polarization. We studied the system implementation of reconfigurable chiplet-interposer photonic interconnect, enabled by the EOMM and EOMM with hybrid thermal-optical modulation. Our model shows a potential 70% energy efficiency improvement over conventional electrical interposer interconnect. We have also tested the integration of the EOMM with POET technologies’ 400G Tx/Rx optical interposer chip and studied a limited scale demonstration of the EOMM device.

Research applications of neural sensing and muscle stimulation have been advanced by the development of bioelectrodes that are biocompatible, flexible and long lasting. The existing metallic made bioelectrodes exhibit extremely high electrochemical resistances that would interfere with the neural-electrode bridge and suffer from mechanical and immunological mismatch. Novel, flexible, implantable bioelectrodes based on MXenes (Ti 3 C 2 ) and Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) composite are proposed. Mxenes possess the advantage of having metallic ultra-conductive transition metals consisting of large groups of carbides, nitrides, or carbonitrides, while PDMS has inherent biostability, flexibility and biocompatibility. In the current research, PDMS has been used as the supporting matrix for conductive fillers such as PMMA, PEDOT, and Mxenes. A series of characterization techniques were performed such as Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), Cyclic Voltammetry (CV) and mechanical testing. The average results of triplicate samples exhibited samples' bulk impedance of 0.913 kΩ, an impedance of 1.612 MΩ, at 1 kHz frequency and a conductivity of 1.41x10 -4 S/cm, charge storage capacity of 0.056 mC/cm 2 and Young's modulus of 3.81 MPa.

Failures in Current Transformers (CTs) can have a significant financial impact on utilities, causing revenue loss, service interruptions, and even damage to nearby equipment. To minimize the effects of CT degradation on the electrical system, predictive techniques and continuous monitoring are essential. One such tool that can aid in the supervision and diagnosis of equipment in service is the loss tangent. This parameter is directly related to the aging and degradation of electrical insulation, making it a useful indicator of possible failures in CTs. Therefore, this work aims to perform computer simulations using the finite element method (FEM) to simulate the effect of oil and paper degradation on the loss tangent values of a 230 kV current transformer. To achieve this, the COMSOL Multiphysics® software was used to verify the loss tangent as a function of the conductivity of parameters correlated to the CT dielectric. The results of the simulations show that the degradation of oil and paper substantially increases the value of the loss tangent. Additionally, it was found that the simultaneous or individual degradation of oil and paper have different effects on the loss tangent values obtained. The findings of this study demonstrate the usefulness of loss tangent as a tool for the diagnosis and supervision of electrical equipment in service.
