Research has been carried out to monitor vehicle tires before they are used and can reduce damage, including overcoming vehicle fuel waste because air pressure is continuously monitored. This research aims to utilize the MPX5500DP sensor as an air pressure device, the LM35 sensor as a temperature reader, and a buzzer based on IoT to build a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The MPX5500DP and LM35 sensor inputs to the Arduino Uno microcontroller are distributed by the NodeMCU, fitted with a Wi-Fi module. The Blynk application sends and displays the data on a smartphone using the IoT-based. Based on this research, data on the percentage of errors in monitoring air pressure and tire temperature on vehicles were obtained by comparing the data to the pressure gauge and thermometer: 1—the results of the average reading of the sensor error value. MPX5500DP air pressure against pressure gauge is 5.3%. 2—the average reading of the LM35 sensor error value on the temperature thermometer is 6.8%. With this research, the air pressure and temperature in the tires can be monitored in real-time via a smartphone using the IoT-based.

Contactless sensors embedded in the ambient environment have broad applications in unobtrusive, long-term health monitoring for preventative and personalized healthcare. Microwave radar sensors are an attractive candidate for ambient sensing due to their high sensitivity to physiological motions, ability to penetrate through obstacles and privacy-preserving properties, but practical applications in complex real-world environments have been limited because of challenges associated with background clutter and interference. In this work, we propose a thin and soft textile sensor based on microwave metamaterials that can be easily integrated into ordinary furniture for contactless ambient monitoring of multiple cardiovascular signals in a localized manner. Evaluations of our sensor’s performance in human subjects show high accuracy of heartbeat and arterial pulse detection, with ≥ 96.5% sensitivity and < 5% mean absolute relative error (MARE) across all subjects. We demonstrate our sensor’s utility for cuffless blood pressure monitoring on a human subject over a continuous 10-minute period. Our results highlight the potential of metamaterial textile sensors in ambient health and wellness monitoring *** relevance—The contactless metamaterial textile sensors demonstrated in this paper provide unobtrusive, convenient and long-term monitoring of multiple cardiovascular health metrics, including heart rate, pulse rate and cuffless blood pressure, which can facilitate preventative and personalized healthcare.

Open Set Adversarial Domain Match for Electronic Nose Drift Compensation and Unknown Gas Recognition

Electronic nose (EN) is widely used for gas classification in practical applications. In the long-term open environments work, there often exists the unknown gases that the electronic nose cannot predict in advance. ENs need to resist the interference of these unknown gases in addition to overcoming long-term sensor drift problem. However, the present research cannot solve both the sensor drift and unknown gas intrusion problem simultaneously well. In this work, we unify above problems in to the open-set risk boundary. We propose an open-set adversarial domain match (OSADM) model and introduce the considers of open-set domain adaptation (OSDA). OSDA trains a target classifier through matching the domain distribution to recognize the known and unknown gases. First, a binary adversarial loss divides the class boundary. Secondly, adversarial domain adaptation unifies the distribution of different domains. Compared with the metric methods, it avoids complex distribution computation and parameter adjustment to reduce negative transfer. Extensive experimental results on two benchmark datasets, Gas Sensor Array Drift and Twin gas sensor arrays Dataset show that OSADM outperformance of the existing open-set models. © 2023, The Authors. In this study, a convolutional neural network (CNN) is designed to identify multi-channel raw electroencephalograph (EEG) signals obtained from different subjects. The dataset contains 14 channel EEG signals taken from 21 subjects with their eyes closed at a resting state for 120 s with 12 different stimuli. The resting state EEG waves were selected due to better performance in classification. For the classification, a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) was custom designed to offer the best performance. With the sliding window approach, the signals were separated into overlapping 5 s windows for training CNN better. fivefold cross-validation was used to increase the generalization ability of the network. It has been observed that, while the proposed CNN is found to give a correct classification rate (CCR) of 72.71%, the CCR reached the level of average 83.51% by using 4 channels. Also, this reduced the training time from 626 to 306 s. Therefore, the results show that usage of specific channels increases the classification accuracy and reduces the time required for training. © 2022, ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications engineering.

We extended a scheme that evaluates delocalized bipartite single-photon entanglement to multipartite entanglement that reconstructs a partial density matrix by preparing weak local oscillators, which is simpler and more loss-tolerant than the conventional scheme. We experimentally demonstrated the utility of our scheme by reconstructing the density matrix of several 3-mode W-states, after confirming the mode overlap between measured photons and local oscillator photons by Hong-Ou-Mandel interference. © 2025 SPIE.

This study presents a 3D-printed all-dielectric lens assembly integrated with an ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna, designed specifically for beam-steering applications. The proposed system achieves beam steering by combining a rotatable 3D-printed all-dielectric lens assembly with a hemispherical lens and a UWB antenna. The UWB antenna is fabricated on an FR-4 substrate, while the hemispherical lens and rotatable stage assembly are made from Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS). The lens assembly includes a set of 3D-printed lenses capable of rotating to specific angles, with predefined positions at ±60° and a step size of 30°. Based on the simulated results, at the lower frequency of 3.1 GHz, the UWB antenna integrated with the 3D-printed all-dielectric hemispherical lens assembly does not achieve effective beam steering, as the main beam direction deviates from the rotatable lens angle. However, at intermediate frequencies, such as 7.0 GHz, the system demonstrates successful beam steering by adjusting the rotation angle of the hemispherical lens on the rotatable stage.

Climate change and urbanization drive the demand for water management to make cities more water resilient. Climate change brings heavy precipitation and causes urban flooding, with conventional construction of cities no longer suitable given the rising risk of flooding. Characterized by constructing cities as large sponges that absorb and treat water, the idea of sponge cities is a solution to stormwater control and drainage water management, which can be achieved by creating water absorbing areas, increasing permeable surface, and integrating stormwater and drainage systems. To assess flood resilience, evaluation indicators have been introduced to measure the effectiveness of sponge cities. A case study was also provided in this review to demonstrate how the concept of sponge cities was put into practice. © 2022 IEEE.

An active noise control system using giant magnetostrictive actuator has been proposed as a countermeasure for interior noise of the ultra-compact mobilities, which is a new transportation tools. In this paper, as basic research toward the development of the proposed giant magnetostrictive actuator for active noise control, we conduct experiments on the material properties when terbium, dysprosium, and iron powder, which make up the giant magnetostrictive material, are mixed and the heat treatment conditions are changed. In this study, the heat treatment temperature was varied from $800^{\circ}\mathrm{C}$ to $1100^{\circ}\mathrm{C}$ in $100^{\circ}\mathrm{C}$ incrementsbased on the equilibrium state temperature of each material, and the heat treatment time was set in 30-minute increments from 1 hour to 3 hours. As a result, TbFe2 was confirmed after heat treatment at an electric furnace temperature of $1000^{\circ}\mathrm{C}$ for 3 hours, although its strength was insufficient.
