Relaying increases the coverage area and reliability of wireless communications systems by mitigating the fading effect on the received signal. Most technical contributions in the context of these systems assume ideal hardware (ID) by neglecting the non-idealities of the transceivers, which include phase noise, in-phase/quadrature mismatch and high power amplifier nonlinearities. These non-idealities create distortion on the received signal by causing variations in the phase and attenuating the amplitude. The resulting deterioration of the performance of wireless communication systems is further magnified as the frequency of transmission increases. In this paper, we investigate the aggregate impact of hardware impairments (HI) on the general multi-hop relay system using amplify-and-forward (AF) and decode-and-forward (DF) relaying techniques over a general H-fading model. H-fading model includes free space optics, radio frequency, millimeter wave, Terahertz, and underwater fading models. Closed-form expressions of outage probability, bit error probability and ergodic capacity are derived in terms of H-functions. Following an asymptotic analysis at high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), practical optimization problems have been formulated with the objective of finding the optimal level of HI subject to the limitation on the total HI level. The analytical solution has been derived for the Nakagami-m fading channel which is a special case of H-fading for AF and DF relaying techniques. The overall instantaneous signal-to-noise-plus-distortion ratio has been demonstrated to reach a ceiling at high SNRs which has a reciprocal proportion to the HI level of all hops’ transceivers on the contrary to the ID. Diagnosing and tracing of neurological disorders using Electrencephalography (EEG) signals is a promising and popular approach. For analyzing the EEG signals, time-frequency (TF) analysis is effective and useful method because of the stochastic behavior of the signals. Wavelet Transform (WT) was used broadly for analyzing the EEG signals and successful results were reported for various neurological disorders. As a new and promising TF method, concentration of frequency and time (ConceFT) was preferred to use in this study. This new TF method improves the TF resolution obtained using WT. ConceFT combines the multitaper technique and the synchrosqueezing transform (SST). This approach increases the TF resolution and the accuracy of the energy representation. In this paper, an algorithm designed for distinguishing the stages of epileptic seizure using ConceFT was presented. TF images of EEG signals were produced using ConceFT and these images were fed into SqueezeNet. The aim of this approach is to show the success of ConceFT in analyzing the non-stationary signals. Classifications of epileptic EEG signals were performed according to different scenarios. Classification accuracies were obtained between 91,18% and 100%, which showed the promising performance of ConceFT.

We propose a novel robust nonlinear $\mathcal{W}_{\infty}$ optimal control method for dynamical systems with nonaffine control inputs. The nonlinear $\mathcal{W}_{\infty}$ control formulation extends the classic nonlinear $\mathcal{H}_{\infty}$ one, considering a weighted Sobolev norm of the cost variable. This approach assumes that the cost variable belongs to the weighted Sobolev space $\mathcal{W}_{m,p,\mathbf{\Gamma}}$ , ensuring continuity and differentiability up to degree $m$ in a certain domain $\Omega$ . Consequently, in addition to the well-known features provided by the $\mathcal{H}_{\infty}$ approach in terms of disturbance attenuation, the closed-loop system benefits from the enhanced transient performance. Here, the robust nonlinear $\mathcal{W}_{\infty}$ optimal control problem is formulated via dynamic programming for increased-order systems, and a particular solution is proposed to the resulting Hamilton-Jacobi equation, along with the corresponding stability analysis. To validate the proposed method and its versatility, we provide numerical results for the control of a quadrotor. Additionally, leveraging the inherent $\mathcal{L}_{2}$ -gain properties of our approach, we demonstrate that the resulting controller can achieve trajectory tracking with guaranteed asymptotic stability for the whole closed-loop system.

In Extended Reality (XR) applications, high data rates and low latency are crucial for immersive experiences. Uplink transmission in XR is challenging due to the limited antennas and power of lightweight XR devices. To improve data transmission rates, we investigate a relay-assisted carrier aggregation (RACA) system. The XR device simultaneously transmits data to an access point (AP) and a relay in proximity over low-frequency and high-frequency bands, respectively. Then, the relay down-converts and amplifies the signals to the AP, effectively acting as an additional transmit antenna for the XR device. In this paper, we propose two algorithms to maximize the data rate of the XR device in their respective protocols. In the centralized protocol, the rate maximization problem is equivalently transformed as a weighted mean square error minimization (WMMSE) problem which can be solved iteratively by alternative optimization. In the distributed protocol, the rate maximization problem is decomposed into two independent subproblems where the rate of the direct link and the rate of the relay link are maximized by singular value decomposition (SVD)- based methods with water-filling (WF). Simulation results show that the rate of the RACA system is improved by 32% compared to that of the conventional carrier aggregation scheme. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Opinion has always affected businesses and individuals especially from the Public. People react through social media and spread it incompletely. The situation was then accepted as public opinion. There are three categories of opinion i.e., positive, negative, and neutral. To investigate public opinion on a particular issue of interest, sentiment analysis might be employed. By offering a solution to the text classification challenge, this experiment focuses on the perception of airline tweets among the American public. We offer a method to classify tweets as positive, negative, or neutral using three machine learning classifiers: Random Forest Classifier, Naive Bayes Classifier, and K-Nearest Neighbors Classifier. We examined the performance of three machine learning classifiers in terms of accuracy, average precision, average recall, and average f-1 score. The results demonstrate that the Random Forest Classifier, which produces 82% accuracy, 80% average precision, 82% average recall, and 80% average f1-score, performs the best among the machine learning classifiers. © 2023 IEEE.

In the current study, we introduce an innovative triple square cell sensor, precisely angled at 45 degrees, mounted on a Roger RT/Duroid 3210 substrate for the non-invasive monitoring of glucose levels. Utilizing advanced computational simulations, including a 3D full-wave electromagnetic analysis facilitated by CST software, the sensor identifies minor changes in the dielectric properties of glucose solutions. The triple square cell design distinguishes itself with significantly heightened sensitivity, evidenced by three distinct resonant peaks, surpassing the single-cell design. Achieving a notable sensitivity measure of 0.38812 dB for each mg/dL change in glucose concentration, this sensor demonstrates promising capabilities for continuous, non-invasive glucose surveillance, which is an essential component in diabetes care. © 2023 IEEE.

In the direction of arrival (DoA) estimation, typically sensor arrays are used where the number of required sensors can be large depending on the application. With the help of compressed sensing (CS), hardware complexity of the sensor array system can be reduced since reliable estimations are possible by using the compressed measurements where the compression is done by measurement matrices. After the compression, DoAs are reconstructed by using sparsity promoting algorithms such as alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM). For the given procedure, both the measurement matrix design and the reconstruction algorithm may include computationally intensive operations, which are addressed in this study. The presented simulation results imply the feasibility of the system in real-time processing with energy efficient implementations. We propose employing parallel programming to satisfy the real-time processing requirements. While the measurement matrix design has been accelerated 16X with CPU based parallel version with respect to the fastest serial implementation, ADMM based DoA estimation has been improved 1.1X with GPU based parallel version compared to the fastest CPU parallel implementation. In addition, we achieved, to the best of our knowledge, the first energy-efficient real-time DoA estimation on embedded Jetson GPGPUs in 15 W power consumption without affecting the DoA accuracy performance. © 2021 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Adaptive filters are widely used in communications, signal processing, and system identifications. The computational bottleneck of the normalized least mean square (NLMS) adaptive filter is the division. Previous works have shown that using the reciprocal approximation for the divisor not only works well for the NLMS algorithm but can also improve the adaptive filter’s overall throughput rate. This work designs a lookup table (LUT) reciprocal approximation method to replace the division for the NLMS adaptive filter. The experimental results show that the adaptive NLMS filter using the proposed approximation consumes less power and resources than the ones using the standard SRT division and the previously reported CSD reciprocal approximation on an FPGA platform.

Recently, the research on daily health monitoring using a wearable sensor has been continually evolving. In the future, when this system is actually implemented, a vast amount of data transmission will be conducted from multiple sensors to the cloud server. A system capable of transmitting, storing, processing, and visualizing massive volumes of data is necessary for health monitoring. This research aims to develop a health monitoring system that can accommodate a high amount of data with high performance. The proposed techniques include numerous modifications to system architecture and technology. In the system architecture, a multi-database is proposed to enhance the reliability of the system. As an enhancement to the technology aspect, a time series database and MQTT server are proposed. As the result, the proposed system achieves significantly better performance in terms of throughput, database-writing speed, and database-reading speed compared to the existing system. © 2022 IEEE.
