Group testing is a well-studied approach for identifying defective items among a large amount of items by conducting a relatively small number of tests on pools of items. In this paper, we propose a novel method for generating quasi-random designs with constant pool sizes for noiseless non-adaptive group testing. Our approach incorporates insights from combinatorial properties to optimize the distribution of Hamming distances in pooling designs. Simulations with established practical decoding algorithms show that our quasi-random designs outperform existing random and quasi-random methods in both identification accuracy and stability. These improved designs have the potential to provide significant benefits for real-world applications of group testing, such as PCR testing in large populations and network security.

This work introduced a novel controlling technique of Pulse Width Modulation (PFM) on a three-level buck converter, to keep remarkable efficiency within wide range of duty cycle and loading. Since this interleaved signal converter with conventional constant on-time control cannot scale their switching frequency with load under discontinuous conduction mode when the conversion ratio(M) is larger than 0.5, an on-time extension method is applied. Additionally, a VLX sensing scheme is proposed to achieve flying capacitor balancing in both CCM and DCM throughout the entire duty cycle. The chip prototype is designed using a TSMC 0.18um CMOS process. The simulation results show a 2MHz switching frequency with and a loading range from 20mA to 1A with > 90% efficiency. © 2025 IEEE.

The unpredictable events can significantly impact energy demand and supply in the electricity market, leading to price volatility. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) approach in analyzing real-time data on Locational Marginal Prices (LMPs) during periods before, during, and after the COVID19 pandemic. Open data from the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) are utilized to obtain the LMP data. To evaluate the accuracy of the model predictions, three performance metrics were utilized, namely Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE), and coefficient of determination (R 2 ). Additionally, the study assesses the ability of LSTM to forecast LMP, considering yearly fluctuations. Graphical visualizations are created to depict the trends and patterns of LMP changes and forecasts over time. The results demonstrate the promising potential of LSTM in forecasting LMP even in unpredictable situations like pandemic. Despite the challenges of accurately estimating extreme energy demands during the pandemic, the LSTM model generates reliable forecasts, as evidenced by the performance metrics. The graphical visualizations also illustrate the effectiveness of LSTM in capturing the underlying trends and patterns of LMP changes over time.

Nowadays multilevel converters have been widely adopted in low and medium power DC-DC conversion systems, especially for automotive applications and renewable energy systems. However, the increase in the number of components and the complexity of the control also complicate the modeling and control of these converters. A dynamic model will be detailed, studied, and used to illustrate the properties of the SEPIC DC-DC converter with three-level flying capacitor switching cell. The model’s applications include, but are not limited to, controller analysis, design for load voltage regulation, and flying capacitor voltage balancing. Both simulations and experimental results are provided to verify the principle of operation.

We discuss an observer design for nonlinear descriptor systems described by Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy descriptor system, which can represent a broader class of systems, including not only differential equations but also algebraic equations, compared to the standard Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy system. The observer design is important to estimate the state of systems because not all states of systems can be measured in many cases. In this paper, we propose a new observer based on a descriptor form and a Lyapunov function candidate structured using integrals of the membership functions to obtain a relaxed observer design condition. Finally, a numerical example is shown to illustrate the comparison of our observer design methods and others based on the conventional Lyapunov functions.

In a basketball game, players must act appropriately according to the position and movement of the player. This needs to be learned through team practice. Therefore, if we can build an environment that allows even one person to practice as a team, the efficiency of practice can be greatly improved. It is effective to use virtual reality (VR) technology to realize team practice alone. This paper proposes a VR-based basketball team practice learning system that provides VR environments similar to the actual team practice environments by arranging players in a virtual space. Focusing on zone defense practice, which is said to be difficult to learn even in team practice, we propose a practice system for orthodox 3-2 zone tactics. In addition, because the distance between the player and the surrounding VR player is important for this system, this paper presents the evaluation result of the 3D virtualization accuracy measured by the experiment. © 2022 IEEE.

Breast cancer is a malignant tumor with a high mortality rate among women. Therefore, it is necessary to develop novel therapies to effectively treat this disease. In this study, iron selenide nanorods (FeSe2 NRs) were designed for use in magnetic hyperthermic, photothermal, and chemodynamic therapy (MHT/PTT/CDT) for breast cancer. To illustrate their efficacy, FeSe2 NRs were modified with the chemotherapeutic agent methotrexate (MTX). MTX-modified FeSe2 (FeSe2-MTX) exhibited excellent controlled drug release properties. Fe2+ released from FeSe2 NRs induced the release of •OH from H2O2 via a Fenton/Fenton-like reaction, enhancing the efficacy of CDT. Under alternating magnetic field (AMF) stimulation and 808 nm laser irradiation, FeSe2-MTX exerted potent hyperthermic and photothermal effects by suppressing tumor growth in a breast cancer nude mouse model. In addition, FeSe2 NRs can be used for magnetic resonance imaging in vivo by incorporating their superparamagnetic characteristics into a single nanomaterial. Overall, we presented a novel technique for the precise delivery of functional nanosystems to tumors that can enhance the efficacy of breast cancer treatment. © 2024 The Authors. This paper presents the human fall detection by convolutional neural network (CNN) classification and MobileNet algorithm. In order to reduce the number of parameter, we propose a vision-based fall detection model, that is called “Applied Depthwise separable-based CNN-MobileNet (ACM) algorithm”. This model is based on CNN, deptwise convolution and pointwise convolution of MobileNet algorithm. Experimental results show the accuracy of proposed ACM model about 97.68% and number of parameters of proposed ACM model is less than conventional CNN model.

A comparison of proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller tuning for a 2x2 Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) water treatment plant model is presented. The PID tuning procedures are based on Multi-Objective Grey Wolf Optimizer (MOGWO) and Multi-Objective Grouped Grey Wolf Optimizer (MOGGWO) are performed under two different initial conditions. The tuning procedure is structured as a multi-objective optimization problem with four objective functions, the integral time-squared error is minimized in each output response, and the integral of the control actions is minimized in each input. MOGWO is a metaheuristic based on the hunting behavior of grey wolves, following the hierarchy and leadership procedures that these animals have, while the proposed MOGGWO is a new version proposed in this study with two different groups with different functionalities. The performance was analyzed by 50 runs based on statistical metrics. MOGGWO can find more local minima since its Pareto front is more dispersed than that found by MOGWO.
