Novel wireless communication systems such as IoT devices and B5G are widely spreading, high performance electrically small antennas which is wireless interface of RF module is strongly demanded. As relationship between miniaturization of antenna and realization of high performance is trade-off, research and development for electrically small antennas are important. Though spherical helix antennas have been proposed as antennas that the size is possible to reduction by theoretical limitation, practical improvement of the antenna performance is required. This paper denotes broadbanding of the hemispherical helix antennas using an equivalent circuit with loss factor, and discuss the affects of loss factor on the wideband characteristics.

This paper proposes a task planning and motion control framework that generates task plans for a linear temporal logic specification (LTL), which are then executed using a task-space constrained motion controller and a local task planner that overcomes local minima. We propose a new encoding for task specifications, directly in the task-space, as constraints of a mixed-integer linear program that can be used with off-the-shelf LTL linear encoding. We apply our framework to plan and execute trajectories for a free-flying robot and show that the task plan is accomplished without collisions, even in the presence of unexpected moving obstacles that are not considered in the planning phase, while control signal constraints are satisfied. To evaluate the local minima avoidance, we compare the local task planner with a sampling-based motion planner, and the results show a smoother trajectory with a faster execution and less total planning time when using our framework. Last, our framework scaled well with a longer LTL specification, as opposed to automata-based frameworks that usually suffer with the curse of the dimensionality.

Hybrid Construction Machinery differs from conventional Hybrid and Full Electric Vehicles since the electrification can be applied not only to the traction system, but also and mainly to its attachments, which generally are the major responsible for diesel consumption. A dc-dc converter stage is usually applied between the battery bank and the motor drive in order to properly deal with the substantial battery voltage variation as a function of its state-of-charge (SoC). This work presents how a field weakening strategy can be applied to a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine (PMSM) drive in order to allow direct connection of the batteries to its dc link, therefore suppressing the need of a dc-dc stage and, consequently, reducing the hybridization costs, weight and volume. Simulation results are presented in a ditch excavation cycle. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper explores utilizing a substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) sensor for noninvasive glucose measurement at 3.73 GHz. The design considerations and performance evaluation are presented specifically tailored for glucose measurement. The proposed SIW resonator was designed using two narrow slots on the top patch with an inset feed. The ground plane is etched with a split ring resonator to enhance the sensitivity. The suggested glucose resonant sensor is simulated for glucose levels ranging from 100 to 2000 mg/dL. The loading process is done in two categories: containers with varied glucose levels and finger layers. The frequency detection for this range of glucose-level fluctuations is 3.43 GHz. The suggested sensor has a sensitivity of approximately 0.42% for detecting glucose levels, which is higher than other relatives. The obtained results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed SIW sensor as a promising candidate for noninvasive glucose monitoring.

Amorphous indium gallium zinc oxide (a-IGZO) has recently made significant advancement as a key material for electronic component design owing to its compatibility with complementary metal oxide semiconductor technologies. A comprehensive analysis of reliability-related issues is required to determine the true potential of a-IGZO-based devices for next-generation electronics applications. To address this objective, we electrically characterize scaled-channel a-IGZO thin film transistors (TFTs) under positive bias (temperature) stress (PB(T)S). Both PBS and PBTS are characterized by positive and negative V_th shift, respectively, during the various gate stresses. In particular, the negative V_th shift is explained by the generation of donor-like traps stimulated by ionization of oxygen vacancy/hydrogen at elevated temperature. The TFTs exhibit relatively decent stability during the PBS operation. The analysis of devices with variant channel dimensions implies that long-channel devices exhibit relatively higher stability and performance compared to the short-channel ones. We also observe that the V_th can be controllably adjusted by employing the top gate (TG) with bottom gate sweep. Moreover, the stress-induced partial recovery mechanism is experimentally observed owing to detrapping of charges. Generally, the reported results infer a perceptive understanding of scaled-channel a-IGZO-TFTs which helps with shaping performance-enhancement strategies. © 2024 The Author(s). Strain and atomic stacking of bismuth thin film in its quasi-van der Waals epitaxy on (111) Si substrate

We report on the structural properties of Bi thin films grown on (111) Si substrates with a thickness of 22–30 BL. HRXRD and EBSD measurements show that these Bi films are mainly composed of twinning grains in the (0003) direction. The grain size can be as large as tens of microns. From a double-peak (01 1 ¯ 4) φ-scan, we found two pairs of twinning phases coexisting with a rotation angle of ~ 3.6°. We proposed a coincidence site lattice model based on preferential close-packed sites for Bi atoms on Si (111) surface to explain the coexistence of the rotation phases in the quasi-van der Waals epitaxy. From the measured lattice constants c and a of our samples, along with the data from the literature, we derived a c–a relation: (c–c₀) = − 2.038(a–a ₀), where c₀ and a ₀ are the values of bulk Bi. The normalized position of the second basis atom in the unit cell x, in these strained Bi films is found very close to that of bulk Bi, indicating that the strain does not disturb the Peierls distortion of the lattice. The fixed ratio of bilayer thickness to lattice constant c, reveals that the elastic properties of covalent-bonded bilayer dominate those of Bi crystal. © 2023, The Author(s).

A vast number of technologies based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) have proliferated into various application domains. As part of its objectives to develop agents which can behave and think like humans, some branches of AI have focused on developing various algorithms that can learn from input data without explicitly being programmed. In the food industry, notably in restaurants, smartphone technology is typically used to collect data from customers efficiently such as orders or feedback toward the services provided. The use of smartphones by some restaurants is motivated by their convenience and efficiency. Furthermore, various promotions, discounts, and membership benefits offered by cellular service providers have attracted the use of smartphones as devices for improving restaurant services to their customers. This study aimed to conduct a sentiment analysis related to multi-brand restaurants in Indonesia based on customer feedback. The data retrieved from the Google Play Store consists of 756 reviews from Boga, Champs, Hangry, Ismaya, Kulo, and Union groups. In this study, TF-IDF was used as a vectorizer to represent customer feedback as numeric vectors. The polarity sentiment of customer feedback was recognized using classifier models based on machine learning such as Logistic Regression, Naive Bayes (NB), Random Forest, and Support Vector Machine (SVM) as the classifier. The empirical results showed that SVM has the best accuracy of 93.10 % average accuracy followed by Logistic Regression with 92.41 %, Random Forest with 84.14 % average accuracy, and Naive Bayes with 76.55 % average accuracy. © 2022 IEEE.

Wireless communication via unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has drawn a great deal of attention due to its flexibility in establishing line-of-sight (LoS) communications. However, in complex urban and dynamic environments, the movement of UAVs can be blocked by trees and high-rise buildings that obstruct directional paths. This problem can be effectively addressed by employing reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS). To achieve this goal, accurate channel estimation in RIS-assisted UAV-enabled wireless communications is crucial. This paper proposes an accurate channel estimation model using long short-term memory (LSTM) for a multi-user RIS-assisted UAV-enabled wireless communications system. Simulation results showed that LSTM can effectively improve the channel estimation performance of RIS-assisted UAV-enabled wireless communications.

Software quality can be evaluated as the composition of successful completion rate of all the phases in software development life cycle (SDLC). One of the most time consuming and costly phases in SDLC is testing of the software. One of the ultimate goals of the testing phase is to improve the quality level of the product. Therefore, the testing process has an important role in determining the quality level. In this study, it is aimed to classify the three level quality status with high accuracy depending on the metrics collected in the testing processes of software projects. For this purpose, various machine learning methods and deep neural network models are used. In order to get better classification performance, optimization of hyperparameters for machine learning methods and changing the loss function in deep neural networks are performed. Along with these, how the results change with different approaches in this multi class classification problem has been examined in depth. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This paper discusses the importance of safety engineering in the identification, mitigation, and elimination of hazards to achieve an acceptable level of risk for a product or system throughout its life cycle. Safety analysis is essential to airworthiness regulations and is required for the certification of a product, ensuring compliance with the related type certificate release and hence safety requirements. It involves evaluating functional hazard scenarios for each system function and classifying them in terms of severity. It focuses on the occurrence frequency of critical systematic and random failure conditions. This is achieved through fault tree analysis of combinations of failure conditions. The paper presents a generic study on atmospheric radiation effects on aircraft and methods for analytical calculation of system reliability characteristics using qualitative and quantitative analyses on susceptible parts and qualitative analysis at system and aircraft levels. The outcome of the study is the achievement of a sufficient confidence level of see for aircraft altitudes up to 35000ft with both calculation and observation results. Avionics operating at altitudes between 35000-60,000 feet constitute a risk factor and should be analysed case by case.
