An intelligent control approach for resonance damping in a grid-connected inverter system

Photovoltaic power generation has transformed into the most reassuring strategy for power generation among the renewable sources in view of its intrinsic favorable circumstances. The significant snag that photovoltaic system poses like other inexhaustible sources is the power intermittency in regard to atmospheric conditions like irradiation and temperature. These photovoltaic systems are interfaced to the grid through filters via inverters to prevent harmonics getting in to the grid. Generally, inductor–capacitor–inductor filters are employed in grid-connected system, as they provide better harmonic attenuation than inductor and inductor-capacitor filters. However, they bring resonance as well as oscillations into the grid-connected system. So, in order to suppress the resonance that brings instability problems in the system, active damping control strategies are adopted. But these conventional active damping methods increase the complexity of the system as they need extra sensors. This article proposes a fuzzy logic control-based active damping method to ease the control activity. The proposed controller is contrasted with the injected grid current feedback controller to investigate the resonance damping and the stability of grid interfaced multilevel inverter with inductor–capacitor–inductor filter. When compared with the injected grid current feedback controller, the fuzzy logic control approach promises satisfactory performance based on harmonic content, resonance peak, and stability analysis. The compliance according to the industrial standard in terms of harmonics is met in this article and is duly documented within the manuscript. Simulation results verify the design strategies and the effectiveness of the proposed fuzzy logic control strategy. © The Author(s) 2019.

Smart contract based attack detection in cognitive radio network

Cognitive radio network is prone to many malicious attacks during the process of cooperative spectrum sensing. To overcome this limitation and to efficiently use the spectrum, we incorporate block chain technology in the Fusion center in order to eliminate the malicious users and to maintain only authorized sensing results in the ledger. Fusion center takes the responsibility of smart contract ownership and organizes spectrum sensing effectively. Any malicious attack found during sensing is identified using our proposed algorithm (DETMAL-Detection of malicious users algorithm). This paper proposes a noval algorithm ’DETMAL algorithm’, which is designed in such a way that it can handle both reliant strike and self reliant strike made by the attackers. Detected attackers who are sending falsified reports are removed from the honest local decisions to make an authorised global decision. Legitimate secondary users who are the participants of the smart contract are rewarded with incentives of ethers. DETMAL algorithm shows 12% increased detection probability at 0.1 false alarm probability than the existing algorithm. Results and simulations show that our proposed model outsmarts other existing models in terms of detection probability and accuracy. © 2025 – IOS Press. All rights reserved.

MBASE: Meta-heuristic Based optimized location allocation algorithm for baSE station in IoT assist wireless sensor networks

In an Internet of Things (IoT) assisted Wireless Sensor Network (WSN), the location of the Base Station (BS) remains important. BS serves as the central hub for data collection, aggregation and communication within the network. Its location significantly impacts the overall network performance and energy efficiency. However, the role and requirements of the BS may vary depending on the specific implementation and integration of IoT assist opportunistic routing protocol. Therefore, this work propose a Meta-heuristic Based optimized location Allocation algorithm for baSE station in IoT assist WSNs (MBASE). The MBASE algorithm is based on Forwarder Node (FN) selection and using meta-heuristic based opportunistic routing. The FN is selected by a decision-making approach based on meta-heuristic search strategies which offers viable options for local and global optimization problems. This work aims to find a way to achieve a trade-off in this algorithm for efficient and appropriate placement of BS either at the centre or outside of the network deployment zone. Both positions of BS are optimization problems in the design of WSNs/IoTs. MBASE algorithm is proposed for identifying the optimized location allocation for BS and is based on metaheuristic. Simulation based analysis of essential operational and functional parameters such as Message Success Rate (MSR), Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR), Throughput, and Average energy consumption (AEC) is reported in the paper. Additionally, work compares BS locations using a common neighbourhood concept to assure fairness. Low Quality Retinal Blood Vessel Image Boosting Using Fuzzified Clustering

Retinal imaging can effectively diagnose diseases that manifest changes in the retinal anatomy. However, manual diagnosis paradigms are both error-prone and cost-intensive. Therefore, computer-aided technologies were developed for an exhaustive examination of retinal pathology and anatomy. In this article, a new retinal image enhancement method based on fuzzy c-means is proposed to enhance low quality retinal blood vessel images while preserving its brightness. Fuzzy c-means clustering groups the intensity levels into multiple clusters and assigns a cluster membership value to each intensity level. These values are subsequently modified and are then mapped to their corresponding initial values. The green channel of a modified image obtained above is equalized using the adaptive histogram equalization to yield the enhanced image. The results for the proposed algorithm were established using standard datasets consisting of 1000 fundus images with 39 categories. The proposed technique preserves the brightness and improves the contrast while improving vascular segmentation. © 2020 IEEE.

The ternary logic has a benefit over the binary logic which provides a secured solution to achieve a trade-off between the area and power of the design. However, from the structure of the ternary Aritmetic Logic Unit (ALU), it is clear that its architecture increases the area, propagation delay, and power consumption. To overcome this drawback, a loopback algorithm is proposed to achieve low power and high throughput Internet of Things (IoT) processors. The loopback algorithm reduces the number of processing stages in multipliers and adders which can significantly reduce area and power dissipation. The proposed 2:1 multiplexer-based approach reduces the need for a decoder and results in low power consumption. The proposed design will be implemented in Xilinx ISE 13.0 and simulation will be done in Modelsim. The modified Ternary ALU (TALU) performs finer than the previous TALU method. The number of registers used in this architecture is reduced by up to 25% than the existing system therefore there is a reduction in power dissipation. © (2024), (International Hellenic University - School of Science). Prompt-based All-in-One Image Restoration Network For Robust Visual Odometry

Conventional image restoration models are difficult to apply efficiently in real-world scenarios because they are designed to handle only specific types and levels of degradation. This study proposes a model that can handle multiple degradations with a single restoration model using prompt learning. Furthermore, we introduce a sub-network, pixel-level encoder, that modulates the encoder of the main network and prompts. In this process, the proposed model adaptively integrates features across spatial and channel spaces through deformable spatial cross-attention and multi-Dconv head transposed cross-attention. Moreover, this model exploits pixel-wise contrastive loss to capture the style and context information of target images. An experimental evaluation is conducted using a widely-used dataset in all-in-one image restoration, including dehazing, deraining, and denoising. Additionally, this study evaluates the robustness of models for monocular depth estimation and visual odometry using images reconstructed from noise degradation. © ICROS 2024.

Silicon carbide (SiC) based inverters are widely used due to their fast switching and ability to withstand high temperatures and Voltage. This helps to increase efficiency and reduces switching losses compared to the silicon-based inverter. However, this fast-switching device causes an increase in the Voltage at the junction of the cable and motor due to the reflected wave. The main causes of overvoltage are cable/motor impedance mismatch, fast-switching inverter devices (IGBT), and inverter-motor separation. To extend the induction motor lifespan, overvoltage reduction is necessary. Passive and active filters solve the problem, but passive filters are bulky and have high power loss. This paper presents a shunt active filter approach for an inverter-fed induction motor to reduce overvoltage. To show the effectiveness of the proposed approach, the findings were compared to the topology of the clamp-type active filter already in use. The shunt active filter used Proportional Integral (PI) and fuzzy controllers to generate reference current according to the Synchronous Reference Frame (SRF) theory. Harmonics in the power system were removed using the SRF theory. The unique aspect of this work is how the reference current is produced in the shunt active filter using the SRF theory. The proposed shunt active filter with a fuzzy controller was added to the hardware implementation to achieve better results than previous active filters. ©, Engineers Australia.

This paper dives into the world of autonomous mobile robot navigation that achieves seamless integration between Robot Operating System (ROS2) and microcontroller-based systems without relying on standard ROS control packages. Unlike conventional methods that depend on dedicated ROS hardware integration packages, the system implements a traditional serial communication that enables direct interfacing with Arduino microcontrollers. Upon successful demonstration, real-time data handling and efficient buffer management on Arduino Mega was achieved by overcoming the memory limitations encountered with Arduino Uno. The implementation includes a custom joint state publisher that ensures precise synchronization between the physical robot and its simulated counterpart along with the deployment of the Robot Operating System (ROS2) and the Navigation Stack (Nav2) with Cartographer ROS, using their capabilities for precise environment mapping, navigation, and complex path planning in mobile robotics. Our system achieves accurate robot movement through careful calibration and real-world parameter measurements, incorporating detailed inertial calculations for improved motion control. This approach improves the precision of autonomous navigation and broadens the applicability of the robot in various scenarios, ranging from disaster management and indoor navigation to warehouse logistics. © 2025 IEEE.

Long-term solar radiation forecasting in India using EMD, EEMD, and advanced machine learning algorithms

Solar radiation plays a critical role in the carbon sequestration processes of terrestrial ecosystems, making it a key factor in environmental sustainability among various renewable energy sources. This study integrates two advanced signal processing techniques—empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD)—with machine learning (ML) algorithms, including multilayer perceptron (MLP), random forest regression (RFR), support vector regression (SVR), and ridge regression, to forecast long-term solar radiation. Meteorological data spanning 13 years (2000–2012) from seven locations across India (Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Patna, and Trivandrum) were used for training and testing. The optimal model was identified based on performance metrics, including the highest linear correlation coefficient (R), and the lowest mean absolute error (MAE) and root mean square error (RMSE). The results indicate that EEMD integrated with ML algorithms consistently outperformed EMD-based approaches. Among the ML models evaluated, EEMD integrated with MLP achieved the best performance across all locations, with RMSE = 0.332, MAE = 0.26, and R2 = 0.99. Furthermore, a comparative analysis with previous studies demonstrated that the proposed approach provides superior accuracy, underscoring its efficacy in solar radiation forecasting. © The Author(s) 2025.

Quantum-MUSIC: Multiple Signal Classification for Quantum Wireless Sensing

This letter proposes a Quantum-MUSIC, the first signal processing algorithm for quantum wireless sensing of multi-user with atomic receiver. Although the atomic receiver highly enhances sensing accuracy via extremely sensitive Rydberg atoms, leveraging its potential is challenging due to its magnitude-only measurement. To fill in this gap, the proposed algorithm first retrieves the channel matrix and incorporates the multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm, enabling multi-user quantum wireless sensing. Simulation results showed that the proposed algorithm outperforms the classical MUSIC algorithm, validating the theoretical potential of quantum wireless sensing. © 2025 IEEE. All rights reserved.
