This contribution concisely presents an overview of the laboratory experimental research results when identifying a model and controlling a laboratory heating-cooling loop in a classical robust sense. Revision and extension of previous results are focused. The process in question, albeit simple enough, is characterized by long dead times and internal delays, giving rise to the infinite-dimensional nature of its model. This feature makes related parameter identification and control tasks nontrivial. Moreover, the essential goal is to verify whether a model identified also considering model uncertainties gives better control responses than that for the nominal case. An output algebraic control design satisfying robust stability and robust performance is used. A comparison of the proposed results against previous ones is also provided.

In dynamic optimization problems where optimal solutions change over time, traditional ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithms face limitations. This study explores the adaptation of multi-colony ACO algorithms, known for their enhanced search capabilities in stationary problems, to tackle optimization problems in dynamic environments. Various strategies for exchanging information between colonies, which is a critical factor influencing algorithm performance, are investigated. Using the dynamic traveling salesman problem as a foundation, we generate test cases to reflect real-world complexities. Our results on a set of problem instances reveal that the choice of communication strategy between colonies significantly impacts the adaptability and efficiency of multi-colony ACO algorithms in tracking moving optimum.

The off-road environment is complex, and the accurate obstacle detection of unmanned vehicles in the off-road environment is difficult. In order to identify the obstacles in the off-road environment with low cost, real-time image recognition and high efficiency, the Faster R-CNN optimized by 4 methods is designed in this paper. Comparing with the original model, SSD and YOLO, our optimized model shows obvious advantages in obstacle identification in the off-road environment. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper investigates the problem of diagnosing discrete faults for a class of hybrid dynamical systems, where the evolution of the discrete state is led by a set of discrete modes governed by a partially observed Petri net which means that we can know the activation of some discrete modes and the firing of some switching conditions. The considered class may have several modes evolving simultaneously. The modes can be associated with normal or faulty operating conditions. Therefore, the knowledge of the current mode represents the coeur part of the proposed diagnosis approach. We present at first an asymptotic observer to detect both the activation of discrete modes and the switching conditions. Then, we propose an algorithm to diagnose faults using the estimated discrete states provided by the observer. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach. © 2022 IEEE.

This article investigates the problem of fault-tolerant control (FTC) for stochastic high-order fully actuated (SHOFA) systems with actuator faults. Different from the majority of existing studies focusing on deterministic high-order fully actuated (HOFA) systems, this work accounts for stochastic disturbances. Employing the generalized martingale technique, a novel fault-tolerant equivalent controller is formulated. Additionally, an adaptive compensation law is devised to address time-varying faults promptly. The designed pre-closed-loop strategy advocates the advantage of HOFA methodology in the meantime and guarantees performance by ensuring that all signals are bounded in probability. Finally, a numerical example is presented to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method.

The sole situation of semi-crystalline structure induced single performance remarkably limits the green cryogels in the application of soft devices due to uncontrolled freezing field. Here, a facile strategy for achieving multifunctionality of cryogels is proposed using total amorphization of polymer. Through precisely lowering the freezing point of precursor solutions with an antifreezing salt, the suppressed growth of ice is achieved, creating an unusually weak and homogenous aggregation of polymer chains upon freezing, thereby realizing the tunable amorphization of polymer and the coexistence of free and hydrogen bonding hydroxyl groups. Such multi-scale microstructures trigger the integrated properties of tissue-like ultrasoftness (Young’s modulus <10 kPa) yet stretchability, high transparency (~92%), self-adhesion, and instantaneous self-healing (<0.3 s) for cryogels, along with superior ionic-conductivity, antifreezing (−58 °C) and water-retention abilities, pushing the development of skin-like cryogel electronics. These concepts open an attractive branch for cryogels that adopt regulated crystallization behavior for on-demand functionalities. © 2023, Springer Nature Limited.

In this paper, we use a robust controller with prescribed performance for the Stewart-Gangway system, achieving motion compensation under unknown time-varying disturbances. The designed controller is able to drive the Stewart top platform towards an arbitrarily small neighborhood of a desired trajectory, with convergence speed no less than a prespecified value, and a maximum overshoot less than a sufficiently small preseted constant. To demonstrate the effictiveness of the designed control strategy, simulation results are given.

Precise estimation of the state-of-health (SOH) of lithium-ion batteries is essential for the reliable and safe functioning of energy storage systems. However, existing data-driven methods seldom account for the uncertainties involved in the battery degradation process, which diminishes the reliability of SOH estimation models. To address this issue, this paper proposes a novel temporal deep learning approach with uncertainty representation. In this methodology, temporal convolutional networks are employed for front-end feature extraction, effectively capturing temporal patterns within battery data. The Transformer architecture is utilized for SOH prediction, leveraging its capability to model complex dependencies in sequential data. To enhance predictive performance, the Transformer decoder is replaced by bidirectional long short-term memory quantile regression, allowing for the estimation of SOH values at various quantiles, providing a more detailed understanding of the battery’s health status. Finally, kernel density estimation is applied to transform these quantile estimates into probability density functions, offering a probabilistic interpretation of the SOH values. Experimental findings indicate that the proposed framework significantly improves the precision and reliability of SOH estimation when compared to other intelligent methods, making it a promising solution for real-time monitoring and management of lithium-ion batteries. © 2001-2012 IEEE.

Due to rapid 3D acquisition advancements, LiDAR point clouds are prevalent in emerging applications like heritage preservation, mobile robotics, and remote sensing. Yet, the sheer data volume poses challenges for transmission and storage, especially in autonomous driving. This paper introduces an efficient coding framework for compressing large dense LiDAR point cloud maps. By recording timestamps and quaternion matrices during map construction, we reduce map compression to sequence compression. The scans are segregated into intra-frames and inter-frames. For intra-frames, a quadric surface fitting intra-prediction technique eliminates spatial redundancy. For inter-frames, by constructing the 3D scene using encoded intra-frames, the inter-frame can be simulated according to its posture and LiDAR intrinsic parameters. Coding focuses on the difference between actual and predicted point cloud data. Decoding reverses this process, reconstructing the point cloud map from the decoded sequence and quaternion matrices. KITTI dataset experiments show the point cloud map can be averagely compressed to 3.43% of its original size while maintaining centimeter-level precision. This outperforms both octree and Google Draco methods.

This manuscript studies the distributed faulttolerant formation for quadrotor unmanned aerial vehicles (QUAVs) subject to actuator failures and hybrid cyber attacks via a game-theoretical approach. The desired formation, which aligns with optimal self-interests, is achieved by seeking the Nash equilibrium (NE) of the game under a strongly connected directed graph. First, a secure fault-tolerant NE seeking algorithm is presented to handle actuator failures and false data injection (FDI) attacks, with the false data being measured through extended state observers (ESOs). The proposed algorithm is established on pseudo-gradient dynamics, in which a local estimate law is used to anticipate the actions of other QUAVs. Then, an ESOsbased algorithm is developed to mitigate the influence of FDI and denial-of-service (DoS) attacks, guaranteeing that all QUAVs exponentially converge to an adjustable small domain of NE by Lyapunov stability analysis. This work is distinct from existing studies by addressing the practical scenario, where physical failures and hybrid cyber attacks occur simultaneously in the game framework of QUAVs. Eventually, numerical experiments are conducted to demonstrate the efficacy of theoretical findings. © 1965-2011 IEEE.
