Orchard navigation using sensor-based localization and exible mission management facilitates successful missions independent of the Global Positioning System (GPS). This is especially important while driving between tight tree rows where the GPS coverage is poor. This paper suggests localization based on an a priori map of the tree rows, a laser scanner based tree row detection, detecting both the row line and the row ends. The localization is combined with mission objectives in a rule-based inference interpreter. This rule-based mission handler combines the functional modules: localization, obstacle avoidance, path planning and drive control. The system is tested successfully using a Hako 20 kW tractor during autonomous missions in both cherry and apple orchards with mission length of up to 2.3 km including the headland turns.

We study a class of 2-DOF underactuated mechanical systems(UAMS) where the objective is to obtain a design framework for stabilization. We propose a stabilization procedure via Lyapunov's direct approach to a class of UAMS employing partial feedback linearization and a change of coordinates. Asymptotic stability of unstable equilibrium point has been achieved in a large region of attraction and we make use of La Salle's theorem to prove it. Designed controller scheme has been successfully illustrated through simulations on two different UAMS namely the pendulum on a cart and the inertia wheel pendulum.

For those refineries which have to deal with different types of crude oil, blending is an attractive solution to obtain a quality feedstock. In this paper, a novel scheduling strategy is proposed for a practical crude oil blending process. The objective is to keep the property of feedstock, mainly described by the true boiling point (TBP) data, consistent and suitable. Firstly, the mathematical model is established. Then, a heuristically initialized hybrid iterative (HIHI) algorithm based on a two-level optimization structure, in which tabu search (TS) and differential evolution (DE) are used for upper-level and lower-level optimization, respectively, is proposed to get the model solution. Finally, the effectiveness and efficiency of the scheduling strategy is validated via real data from a certain refinery.
