This paper considers eigenstructure assignment (ESA) in high-order descriptor linear systems via output feedback. Parametric expressions for the left and right closed-loop eigenvectors associated with the finite closed-loop eigenvalues and two simple and complete parametric solutions to the feedback gain matrix are obtained on the basis of the parametric solution to the generalized high-order Sylvester matrix equation. This approach does not impose any restriction on the closed-loop eigenvalues. The numerical example illustrates the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

This paper aims to develop a hardware architecture of features extraction using wavelet packet method for an intelligent diagnostic system. Verilog-based features extraction architecture is proposed and implemented. Test results verify the design architecture of features extraction using wavelet packet method. A CNC spindle motor commonly featured in intelligent diagnosis of manufacturing systems is chosen to verify this architecture. Under the normal and eccentric spindle states, system modeling is built up for a high speed (10,000RPM), medium speed (5,000RPM) and low speed (1,000RPM) The test results of samples of different rotating speeds under the normal and eccentric spindle states show the effect of the hardware of features extraction and verify the feasibility of hardware design.

This paper describes automatic evaluation of series-parallel (combined) powertrain models using optimization. The novelty with the approach is the possibility to work with non-transparent industrial vehicle models, hidden for intellectual property reasons. The contribution extends the functionality of a recently developed tool for parallel hybrids, with the ability to operate on combined powertrains. Given the user inputs, which include dynamic vehicle model and driving cycle, the tool first produces a simplified powertrain model in the form of static maps, before dynamic programming is used to find an optimal torque split that minimizes fuel consumption. The main use of the tool is to evaluate the potential of a powertrain configuration. The paper contains an illustration of the tool operation on a non-transparent industrial vehicle model. The only requirement on the model is to provide access to some general variables and that it has a torque split that can be fully controlled.

The on-line least-square identification method is applied for the linear switched reluctance motor (LSRM) based closed-loop control system. Since switched reluctance motors have severe nonlinear characteristics, on-line system identification for model parameters is the basis for precise modeling and effective control algorithms. By on-line parameter identification of LSRM with least-square scheme, the parameter characteristics can be predicted despite of operation variations. The experimental results demonstrate the identification scheme has fast response and converging speed and the capability of effective parameter prediction under different conditions.

This study develops a high precision non destructive measurement technique based on a laser interferometer for determining the mixture of methanol and ethanol from its refractive index. The optical metrology system is employed to measure the refractive indexes of mixture sample with known methanol and ethanol. The ratio set of the mixture sample have seven sets. The refractive index of the ethanol solution with the methanol alcohol is reduced. When the mixture solution includes the methanol and ethanol, the refractive index of the mixture solution is between the refractive index of the ethanol and methanol. When the refractive index of the solution is very close the refractive index of the ethanol alcohol, the effect of the mixture solution in refractive index is very small. From this experimental result, the effect of the refractive index of the mixture solution in the refractive index of the ingredient liquid is very clear.

A novel direct-drive rotary-linear switched reluctance motor (RLSRM) is proposed. The motor has the advantages of robust mechanical structure, low manufacture cost and capability of operation under hostile environments. Simulation tools such as finite element analysis (FEA) are applied for the verification of motor performance and corresponding experiments are carried out to testify the simulation results. The authors expect that the innovative actuator design can be applied in industrial applications that require both rotary and linear motions.

Accurate and effective parameter identification is an important engineering task in high performance control system design. One emerging approach to effectively identify such nonlinear or dynamic unknown parameters is to use Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm. Linear Permanent Magnet (LPM) motor is a high performance actuator employed in many applications that require direct linear motion without mechanical transmission for high acceleration and accurate positioning. Therefore, accurate motor parameters are necessary to effectively control the LPM motors. This paper proposes a simple PSO based method with chirp inputs to identify the LPM motor's parameters. The simulations and experiments are conducted to verify the results and determine the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is a technique for reconstructing conductivity of an inhomogeneous medium by injecting currents at the boundary of an object and measuring the resulting changes in voltage. The SNR of acquisitive data and the reconstructed image quality of EIT system are directly determined by current drive patterns. In this paper, eight current drive patterns with the same boundary voltage measurement strategy have been studied. The isopotential lines, the number of independent measurements, measured voltage dynamic range, voltage change with conductivity change and reconstructed image quality of these patterns are compared, through which an optimal current drive pattern was obtained.
