Accurate and effective parameter identification is an important engineering task in high performance control system design. One emerging approach to effectively identify such nonlinear or dynamic unknown parameters is to use Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm. Linear Permanent Magnet (LPM) motor is a high performance actuator employed in many applications that require direct linear motion without mechanical transmission for high acceleration and accurate positioning. Therefore, accurate motor parameters are necessary to effectively control the LPM motors. This paper proposes a simple PSO based method with chirp inputs to identify the LPM motor's parameters. The simulations and experiments are conducted to verify the results and determine the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The paper presents an experimental verification of conventional PI and PID controller design methods. Nine different synthesis techniques were used to control of airflow speed in laboratory model of hotair tunnel, most of them for both PI and PID version. In the first instance the controlled plant was identified in order to obtain a linear mathematical model and then the controllers were designed using studied methods. The controllers were tested in simulations and subsequently implemented under real conditions. The obtained control results have been compared and analyzed.

The 2 gain control problem for disturbance attenuation in Linear Parameter Varying (LPV) Systems with saturating actuators has been addressed where the systems handled in the study are subjected to 2 disturbances. The aim in the presented method is to express saturating actuator analytically with a convex hull of some linear feedback. This point of view allows us to construct 2 control problem via Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs). Nested ellipsoids have been used to measure the stability and disturbance rejection capabilities of the control system. At the end, the proposed controller scheme has been simulated on a single-track vehicle dynamics with some linear time-varying parameters and a wind disturbance.

Modeling of complex dynamic systems, which are very complicated to establish mathematical models, requires new and modern methodologies that will exploit the existing expert knowledge, human experience and historical data. Fuzzy cognitive maps are very suitable, simple, and powerful tools for simulation and analysis of these kinds of dynamic systems. However, human experts are subjective and can handle only relatively simple fuzzy cognitive maps;therefore, there is a need of developing new approaches for an automated generation of fuzzy cognitive maps using historical data. In this study, a new learning algorithm, which is called Big Bang-Big Crunch, is proposed for the first time in literature for an automated generation of fuzzy cognitive maps from data. Two real-world examples;namely a process control system and radiation therapy process, and one synthetic model are used to emphasize the effectiveness and usefulness of the proposed methodology.

This work presents a Hybrid Model Library (HML) for enhancing the analysis of ship electrical systems. Lots of studies were made in order to select the most appropriated software platform to test the new models developed. This work shows examples of models developed in Simulink-MATLAB and PSIM platforms. Later on, we present a research methodology based on modeling techniques by hybridization. Several modeling stages will be presented in order to clarify what kind of difficulties has been solved during marine plant models designing. Finally, we present some conclusions about the HML developed and the chances to improve its core.

This paper proposed an ensemble similarity based method for video retrieval. An ensemble similarity is used to calibrate the similarity between user given query video clip and each video clip in the database: a clip can be treated as an ensemble which consists of a sequence of multiple kev frames. By kernel method, in a high dimension space the feature vector represented frames can be assumed to distribute a Gaussian model. Then probabilistic distance between two Gaussians is computed as the similarity value between two video clips. Then video clips in database with the highest similarity are output and submitted to the user. To improve the speed efficiency, an improved algorithm of Chernoff distance and KL divergence is also proposed. The experimental results indicate that the proposed approach achieves superior performance than some existing methods.

The mathematical model of brushless dc motor system (BLDCMS) is proposed. First, the BLDCMS is researched including the motor, inverter and controller. The key mathematical model of inverter drive circuit is established by introducing an impulse function and Fourier transform. This mathematical model converted current loop output voltage into actual PWM voltage that representative the inverter switching on or off. Therefore the BLDCMS model could be established easily according to the inverter model. Next, the simulation results and experiment results are presented respectively, confirming the validity of the proposed mathematical model. The simulation results show that this BLDCMS model is correct and meet the requirements.

This paper presents a microcontroller based emulator which is developed for the design-test-and-redesign of controllers through examining the controller candidates on the emulated plants operating under the created real-time and real environmental conditions. The analog and digital peripheral units of the plant emulator provide the recreation of the real environmental conditions such that the whole emulator runs as if the real plant whenever the model implemented in the microcontroller is a right model for the plant. The emulator has the flexibility of changing the plant model and/or its parameters manually and it also enables to apply, in an automatic way, analog disturbances and analog parameter perturbations to the plant model. The developed plant emulator communicated with the simulator of the controller part both managed by a graphical user interface implemented in the computer constitutes a controller design-test-redesign platform which has the advantages of using simulated plants in the controller design providing a test-flexibility and also of testing the controller candidates on the emulated plants operating under the conditions very close to the real situations, so assuring the desired controller performances.
