Smart control of window is a means of effectively reducing concentrations of indoor PM2.5 (particulate matter with aerodynamic diameter less than 2.5 μm) in naturally ventilated residential buildings without air cleaning devices. This study aimed to develop a reinforcement learning (RL) approach to automatically control window behavior in real time for mitigation of indoor PM2.5 pollution. The method trains the window controller using deep Q-network (DQN) in a specific apartment for a month. The trained controller can be employed to control window behavior to mitigate indoor PM2.5 in that apartment. The input data for the controller are the real-time indoor and outdoor PM2.5 concentrations with 1-min resolution. Simulation was conducted in a real apartment in Tianjin. The results show that, the RL algorithm reduced the average indoor PM2.5 concentration by 9.11% when compared with the I/O ratio algorithm and by 7.40% when compared with real window behavior. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

As China's steel production accounts for an increasing share of the world's output, the intelligent transformation of the steel industry is becoming increasingly urgent. To address issues such as low levels of mobile informationization in steel enterprises and the lack of an industry-specific mobile application platform, it is of great significance to establish a shared mobile application platform for the steel industry. In this paper, the requirements of the platform were analyzed, and the platform's functions were designed. The software design of the platform was then carried out, and the entire mobile application sharing platform was developed, effectively improving the production management efficiency of steel enterprises. The results indicate that the platform can effectively meet the needs of steel enterprises and has significant engineering significance. © 2023 Technical Committee on control Theory, Chinese Association of automation.

With the rapid development of microelectronic interconnection technology, the reliability requirements of electronic products are becoming higher and higher. Among them, temperature has the greatest impact on electronic devices. Due to the different coefficients of thermal expansion (CTE) between the many materials of a chip, the inside of a solder joint is subjected to cyclic temperature action. Under the effect of cyclic temperature, the solder joints are subject to internal fracture resulting in the failure of the solder joint. Therefore, it is necessary to find a more reliable material for the solder joint. In this paper, the advantages and disadvantages of pure silver material and low silver material are compared by finite element simulation analysis of nano-silver pure silver material and SAC305 low silver material, and the fatigue life prediction of nano-silveris predicted by a life prediction model. Then, using the Electric Power Research Institute estimation method to estimate the fatigue life of solder joints, the results are compared with those calculated by the finite element method. © 2023 Author(s).

For many real-world scenarios, time series prediction needs to be performed on irregularly sampled data. Neural ordinary differential equations have successfully introduced neural dynamical system (NDS) methods into such tasks. However, these models suffer from a large computational cost, and cannot effectively utilize the temporal information in mini-batches, due to mismatched timestamps of samples. In this work, a unified architecture for NDS is developed, with two novel implementations on discrete input sequences (named TDINDS) and continuous sequences (named TCINDS). The reuse of network modules effectively reduces the scale of parameters and time consumption, while maintaining accuracy. In addition, a tensorized timeline alignment method is proposed, which preserves the temporal information of each training sample via reversible mappings, improving prediction performance and reducing time complexity by at least one order of magnitude. Experiments are conducted on the GoogleStock dataset, where we evaluate model accuracy and computational cost by predicting irregular future sequences. The model robustness is tested using incomplete inputs. The results demonstrate the superior performance of TDINDS and TCINDS, with mean square error reduced by 44% and 50% respectively. Robustness evaluation shows that tensorized timeline alignment is also a key factor to enhance irregular time series prediction ability.

This study investigates the concept of multiband graphene THz antennas. We investigate the advantages of graphene in THz antenna applications with standard materials. Using a graphene strip, we built a multiband GSSPlp-MIMO antenna in this study that achieves triple operating frequencies of 7.64 THz, 9.57 THz, and 10.90 THz. The reflection response (S11) of -29.2135 dB, which shows excellent signal confinement within the antenna, was greatly improved upon the inclusion of graphene. Superior impedance matching was the trade-off for this, even if the gain decreased slightly (10.41 dB) in comparison to the antenna without graphene (12.30 dB). The parameters are optimized using machine learning, yielding a maximum accuracy (R2) of 0.996622 and a mean square error of 5.3934 ×10-5. This indicates that high-performance terahertz antennas that balance gain and effective signal transmission can be designed using graphene. The antenna's capacity to handle multiple bands makes it ideal for future ultra-broadband wireless communication systems. This results in higher data transfer rates and supports emerging technologies such as 6G and beyond. © 2024 IEEE.

The management of wastewater is a significant global concern that calls for innovative solutions to lessen its negative effects on the environment. Conventional techniques of treating wastewater need improvement in order to deal with newly discovered contaminants, which highlights the importance of providing precise estimates of process performance and resource requirements. The worsening water shortage situation requires a paradigm shift in which wastewater is viewed as a useful resource. It is possible to create an economy that is both sustainable and circular by treating and recycling wastewater, putting less pressure on freshwater supplies, and leaving as little of an environmental footprint as possible. This study investigates the use of Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) as software estimators in the treatment of wastewater, with a particular emphasis on predicting ammonium concentrations in effluent. In order to deal with imbalanced time-series data, the research introduces innovative data pretreatment strategies. These techniques include a Sliding Window protocol, Data Normalization, and a K-Fold training scheme. This illustrates the potential of ANNs to revolutionize wastewater treatment procedures and drive developments in this field. The suggested method demonstrates higher performance when estimating pollutant concentrations, showing the ability of ANNs to do so. © 2023 IEEE.

Using machine vision for meter reading significantly enhances the efficiency of industrial monitoring. However, meters in outdoor environment are often subject to the noise such as rain and fog, which affect the accuracy of meter readings. Additionally, the meter images and labels under noise are hard to obtain. To address these challenges, We propose a method for pointer meter reading under noise based on virtual data generation. Firstly, We utilize Unity to construct an industrial meter scene, which generates the images of meter under noise and theri labels. Secondly, we develop a U-Net network with an ASPP module, which expands the receptive field of network and enhances the ability of segmentation network to capture global semantic information under noise. Finally, the angular method is used to calculate the meter readings. Experimental results show that this method can effectively read meters under noise in outdoor environments.

Accurate modeling of aerodynamic coefficients is crucial for understanding and optimizing the performance of modern aircraft systems. This paper presents the novel deployment of an Evolving Type-2 Quantum Fuzzy Neural Network (eT2QFNN) for modeling the aerodynamic coefficients of the ATTAS aircraft to express the aerodynamic characteristics. eT2QFNN can represent the nonlinear aircraft model by creating multiple linear submodels with its rule-based structure through an incremental learning strategy rather than a traditional batch learning approach. Moreover, it enhances robustness to uncertainties and data noise through its quantum membership functions, as well as its automatic rule-learning and parameter-tuning capabilities. During the estimation of the aerodynamic coefficients via the flight data of the ATTAS, two different studies are conducted in the training phase: one with a large amount of data and the other with a limited amount of data. The results show that the modeling performance of the eT2QFNN is superior in comparison to baseline counterparts. Furthermore, eT2QFNN estimated the aerodynamic model with fewer rules compared to Type-1 fuzzy counterparts. In addition, by applying the Delta method to the proposed approach, the stability and control derivatives of the aircraft are analyzed. The results prove the superiority of the proposed eT2QFNN in representing aerodynamic coefficients.

Personalised pharmacokinetic models imply stepping away from the classical assumption of homogeneous drug mixing in various tissue compartments in the body, with a particular impact on obese patients. In this work, the pharmacokinetic compartmental model structure is revisited to account for non-uniform distribution of uptake/clearance time constants in patients as a nonlinear function of body mass index. Simulations are confirming expected patterns of drug distribution in the body and can account for post-anesthesia side effects up to 72 hours. We apply spectroscopy to extract the complex impedance in fat tissue samples. The data is modelled by a Cole-Cole model, where parameters of the fractional order impedance model are optimized using a genetic algorithm. The findings suggest that fat tissue will exhibit anomalous diffusion when drug uptake and clearance are present.

The application of unmanned vehicles in industrial cargo transportation is becoming increasingly widespread, particularly playing a significant role in transporting heavy-duty goods. However, when performing such tasks, whether in single-vehicle transportation or multi-vehicle collaborative transportation, the occurrence of wheel failures can potentially lead to serious safety accidents. Therefore, this paper proposes a fault-tolerant control scheme, establishing a kinematic model considering disturbances and failures, and adopts model predictive control for trajectory tracking. Additionally, an extended state observer is introduced to observe system states and counteract disturbances. To address potential failure issues, a controller reconstruction strategy is proposed. Finally, the effectiveness and superiority of the controller is validated through numerical simulation and comparative experiment. © 2024 IEEE.
